Does Anyone Else Read Books? (Aside from Manga)

Recommended Posts

I just picked up the book titled "Quicksilver" by Callie Hart from a store mom and I were at. It's pretty graphic, so, definitely adult-oriented. It's not a book any kid should read, that's for sure. Just sayin'.

How about anyone else? Does anyone else here read books that aren't manga?

I really enjoy Fantasy and Thriller/Mystery books, esepcially if it's a series. It's the one thing I don't mind staying up till 2am doing

Nice preference. I'm a romantic at heart, so Quicksilver might be dark romance, but It's right for my taste in books. ^^ ^^ ^^ I'm not even half way through it yet, but I'm hooked on the story so far.

Are you currently reading any books or any book series?

Quicksilver. I'll have to check that out for sure!! I enjoy a bit of romance here and there!

Right now I'm reading The Perfect marrige. It's been getting recommended to me for quite a while so I decided to pick it up

The author is Callie Hart. Is The Perfect Marriage a work of  fiction or non-fiction?

I read quite a lot (currently at 35 books read this year, a bit of a slump). I'll give almost anything a try and enjoy works from a broad variety of genres, but I'm particularly partial to dark/epic fantasy, science fiction (I'll take any level of hardness) and supernatural horror.

Indeed!  Reading has always been a favorite past time of mine.  Although I do go through slumps.  I finished Brandon Sanderson's Wind and Truth recently, which unfortunately took quite some time.  It was a really good end to the first part of The Stormlight Archive, but I'm not looking forward to how long it'll be before the next arc starts.  (IIRC, he's said he's going to write all of era three Mistborn, and a couple Elantris sequels before he finishes Stormlight.)

Also finished The Myth of Sissyphus by Albert Camus.  I genuinely enjoy philosophical-type works, even though I usually feel dumb after reading them.  I understood some of what I read, but not even close to all of it, lol.

OP, what're some of your favorite books/authors?

This one, that book?

Huh, wasn't aware Elantris had sequels planned. Always took it for a one-off. Might pencil in some time for those when they release...

It worked well as a stand-alone novel, but considering how Sanderson seems to tie all of the Cosmere together, it's not entirely surprising.  I'll probably have to re-read it when new ones come out, it's been so long.  Have you read any of Sanderson's other books?

I picked up Tress of the Emerald Sea, so that'll probably be my next one to read.  Only a couple chapters in.

I've already finished the first Mistborn trilogy and am planning to get to Wax and Wayne at some point. I did read the first three books of Stormlight Archive, but that was back in 2018; eight years on, I've forgotten enough of the series to necessitate a full reread just to read Rhythm of War and Wind and Truth and I'll confess that I just don't feel up to it. (The fractured response of the fanbase to Wind and Truth doesn't help, either.)

Personally, I'm just starting up Grave Empire. I've had a thing for fantasy settings undergoing industrialization since playing Dishonored however many years ago, so the book's blurb was practically catnip to me.

The original Mistborn trilogy was great, imo.  Wax and Wayne was good, but I didn't like the vibe as much, but certainly worth a read.  Probably at least in part because I wasn't expecting the tone and setting change.  (I still have to read the final volume of it, myself.)  I feel you on Stormlight.  They're really long - I didn't re-read them, lol.  I've probably forgotten quite a bit, but they were still enjoyable, and I remembered enough.  I haven't read anything about fan reactions to Wind and Truth, but I loved it.

I didn't play much of Dishonored, but that seems like a cool setting for a novel.

Almost done with The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya, just have the epilogue and afterward left.  It's taken me quite a while; the first half I read sporadically over months, lol.  It was enjoyable, but I have to be in the mood for light novels.  I've blown through the second half the past few days, and it's added some interesting developments to the series.

I literally read a 500 page novel every day in addition to writing my own. I can usually finish off Journey to the West and Count of Monte Cristo in 3 days, apiece.
