  1. Hey everyone, I've always enjoyed using or running forums in the past. Recently some friends have got me into Anime. After watching Hunter x Hunter I was hooked and have seen quite a few series since. I've kept this mostly up-to-date, here's my MyAnimeList of ones I've seen so far. Looking for more people to chat with about Anime and to get some recommendations on what to watch next! A little about me, I'm a gay tech nerd who works in information security and I'm probably not going to be too active this week since I'm about to head off to Hacker Summer Camp in Vegas (Black Hat USA & DEFCON), but need some new Anime to watch on the flights! @Optic did a great job putting together this site. I checked out a few anime forums before picking one to join, this one looked like it had more effort put into it so I decided to join this one.

  2. Do you have anyone in your family that you look up to? Any role models or inspirational figures? This topic is a place to shout out to non-fictional (real) people that have made a positive (or maybe just a large) impact on your life. For myself, this may sound really cheesy but I admire my spouse - @zoop. (Go ahead, judge me, but read the whole damn thing first.) Zoop and I actually met online, on a forum that was not too different from this one. She was an administrator there and I was, initially, a member. Actually, our very first interaction was her responding to a status update of mine. I hated her almost immediately, hahaha. She didn't even bother replying to my welcome topic, and her profile seemed to paint her as being a jerk. Anyways, after I volunteered to help save the site following a disaster, I was made into a moderator and then a server administrator. From behind the scenes, I had a chance to see how Zoop worked as a moderator. She was professional, measured, and really really really tough. During an average week, there would be hundreds of reported posts and mod actions, about a half-dozen lengthy arbitrations (they had arbitration available for all mod actions), and at least one total and complete community disaster (drama queens everywhere). Zoop handled more than eighty percent of this shit. She did it while holding down a full time job and making time to think of ways to improve the community. She was basically a super mod. She also took time to argue with me. Hahaha. We both loved the community, but I was constantly grappling with the fact that the site owner insisted on running a bloated, outdated forum software. Sooo, I would be busy putting out fires and she would be all like, "I need this extra feature! Hey, can you change this theme? Is there a way to automate this? What about that? Holy shit, a SQUIRREL!!!!" It was funny, because a simple "no" never actually worked with her. I would have to prove my point, arguing against her in lengthy legalistic format. That's how we fell in love, I guess? Hahaha. Up until that point, I had never met anyone that could match and beat me in wonkish argument, persistence, and general energy levels. Overtime, I was completely filled with admiration for this weird creature. Sooo, I decided to put a ring on it. Now, she's mine. o3o *ahem* Soooo, what about you? Anyone that you admire?

  5. what you are saying make alot of sense but think about it how many anime have you seen that involves taming dinos to fight and hunt with or for you in a sci-fi world. that is a very unique story. I mean the storys lead can be about the worst or the best player in all of ark

  6. Hi everyone, So today I finally had the time and right state of mind to respond to this rather... unconventional event @Frost created. I would like to stress that this event was completely unexpected and out of the blue. With no heads up or prior warning, I was surprised when I saw the thread asking for submissions. Then when I started to read the responses after they were published I felt very embarrassed and just went on with my usual business. It however became clear that the pressure was rapidly mounting after I realised the magnitude and effort some members had put into their submissions. This event was all done in good fun, and despite that, I have to say - at the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your kind words of support. Reading each entry really put a smile on my face. I originally created this anime community as a side hobby, but knew it would cost a considerable amount of resources to not only create one but for it to stand out from other anime communities out there. To be frank, I still feel embarrassed with the attention I was given in this event as this community is really all about you - the members. I'll continue to do my best to make AF a fun and great environment for discussing anime, keeping a great user experience in mind. (...and also turning everyone into HDN fans) I know it has not been a perfect ride, but I must stress - EVERY decision I've made has always been in the best long term interests for this community - and I hope you will continue to allow me to continue to develop AF in a way that you and future new members will enjoy for many years to come. Thank you!
