  1. There's two factors, though they are connected: first, the series has to be REALLY good, and then because I was trying to Play By The Rules that the scanlators always put out: "Please make sure to buy this when it becomes available in your area" The two I bought parts of were Mahou Sensei Negima, and Rosario + Vampire. Unfortunately, both failed to stick the ending, and that's what makes me wary of buying manga now. Especially since manga isn't cheap.
  2. I have a bunch of time for a little while, so I've been knocking off stuff from my backlog. Here's what we've got: I FINALLY watched Unlimited Blade Works, the movie version. yes, I know a TON of stuff was cut because VN Route into movie... gotta compress it. of course, I'll be watching the actual series a bit later on. Currently, I also have Danmachi S2 going, along with Nekomonogatari And I'm surprising myself by actually following some title that are airing- I've come to HATE cliffhangers (outside of season finales, which are a different beast), so I guess technically speaking I'm letting a few weeks pass before catching up... anyways, I'm finding myself really enjoying Gachiakuta for shounen, and for a "darker" flavor, we have the dark fantasy Clevatess.
  3. Based on discussion elsewhere (and disclaimer: I have NOT seen this one myself), it feels like Wonder Egg Priority is a perfect match. Starts with girls who have emotional trauma and trying to get through it... and by the end, I understand it's a clusterfuck of a story that basically invalidates everything it did in the first half of the show.
  4. I have read Naruto- again, gotta say One Piece is still more well-written. It's not perfect, but its characters have deep backstories (often extremely tragic), the plot is overarching, and many controversial things are touched upon such as war crimes, slavery, racial discrimination, etc. Oh, and despite their designs, the female characters are EXTREMELY well-written. Naruto... let's be honest, the vast majority of the plot is about Naruto trying to bring back Sasuke. Do you want me to start on how the female characters all got tossed to the side in terms of writing? Though I do admit that I can't comment much on Bleach- never read it, especially once all the complaints were about the writing becoming terrible at the end.
  5. Gonna have to argue One Piece- of the Big Three, it's the only that has been CONTINUOUSLY running. Naruto technically came to a natural conclusion, but I've heard arguments that everything in what the anime calls Shippuden is not great, and the War arc was ruined by the Kaguya stuff from nowhere. Bleach... well, I've heard that Bleach ultimately crashed and burned, and that the very first arc remains the best.
  6. I decided I wanted to watch a cute little romance anime in between all my hot-blooded shounen. I was recommended Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague, and as the title might suggest, it's just so... chill. It still has a base of some awkwardness (the characters are newbies in the work force), but it's handled very maturely.
  7. I found myself absolutely burning through Shangri-la Frontier. I think I picked the perfect time- I caught up just as one of the longest arcs finished.
  8. I've been around anime (and manga) for a VERY long time. Starters were things like the original Pokemon and Sailor Moon. I've been looking for a different place to talk about anime and related topics, and this place seems pretty nice. Looking forward to discussion with y'all.
  9. Netflix "jail" is a double-edged sword. On one hand, there's a lot of stuff that doesn't get discussed because of it. On the other hand... there's some pretty good stuff after all. Currently watching Hell's Paradise, and it's one heck of a ride.
