Just finished season 3 of Aggretsuko & must admit I was totally unprepared for the swerve it took leading into the finale. Not sure if there will be another season, but this one was the biggest surprise of the year, even outdoing Deca-Dence IMO. Absolutely amazing that a series about chibi animal office workers can have this much to say about life & relationships. Oh, and it made me laugh alot too 🤣

Yep, i was always telling people how much force and potential aggretsuko had. The writing is so tuned and emotive. I am totally feeling a season 3, or at the very least another special. No way they just leave it as is. I have been wanting for Haida kun to just to what he did on the last episode, and I am sure that the writers no way just leave it at how things are right now.

I have been a sous chef in the city I live in for the last 4 years, so any anime food stuff I actually attempt to cook. I guess it isn't anime, but actually food, expressed in anime. I'm sure you'll see me post a ton of anime food stuff  also *thumbs up*

Welcome senpai, teach me your ways, cannot climb out line cook. I am good at saute, i kick ass in grill, fryer can be done blind folded, but for some reasons when I get put on as a supervisor I start freaking out and messing up stuff that even the new kid can do. Much sad.

So happy to have another cook here, hope you stick around for a while : D

  5. I know exactly how S2 is going to end, and I dont think anyone's kokoro will be ready. I get the impression that you guys havent read the manga so I can see why the character development these kids gets seems so outstanding. The source material is hecka hecka good, and yeah @Ohiotaku you are so right about kyo and what will happen soon with him.

Being born in the year of the rooster I feel for Kureno as you get so little of him in the overall story line but even so his character has so much depth too. Rin and Tohru being in good terms is definitely the turning point of this story.

As a wise man once said S*** gunna get real, son.

  6. WHILE THERE ARE A FEW MUSIC THREADS HERE AND THERE,
MY AIM IS TO HAVE A THEME EVERY DAY AND POST SONGS
THAT SHOWCASE THE BEST OF THAT GENRE OR THEME.

I AM STARTING OFF THE THREAD WITH INTELLIGENT MUSIC.
A SUB-GENRE OF EDM THAT IS MEANT FOR EASY LISTENING
AND DANCING, ITS COMPOSITION BEING MADE OF HIGH SYNTHS AND
PUTTING LESS EMPHASIS ON THE BASS LINE

KINDLY BEGIN WITH THIS TWO SONGS AND FOLLOW THE THREAD THROUGH
THE DAY FOR MORE MUSICAL GOODNESS

Anime club was supervised by our librarian. She said we could do whatever so long as every week I gave her a 1 page analysis on something we were watching and how it related to our issues IRL. It was cool and kinda let me get into anime as more than just a time killer and made me see the genuine talent and effort that goes into making something that can connect with its audience. We never watched anything too ecchi, i think the worst we did was rosario vampire.

Cons were awesome and still are. There is always what i like to call the "flavour of the year", a thing that has been happening that year that kinda colours the whole of the con. A few years ago it was Gangnam style, before that it was sudden aggresive hugs, the free hugs people, the tumblr con pitball being mocked parodied at my local con. It was great fun which is why i miss it so darn much.

I am using the example of the screaming to show case how much more involved the VAs are in Jap compared to English. If you look at the SSJ3 transformation in Jap you can hear the strain the VA is putting on her voice versus the english that just sounds like AAAAAAAAA.

My point is that the way a character feels changes based on who voices them, and being a japanese medium a lot of the intentions behind a character are lost when you try to translate things that only make sense in japanese. One such example is sentence enders in Ruruoni Kenshin. He uses the de gozaru ending when he is not in manslayer mode to show he is humble and quite aloof. This is a cultural trade mark of the way japanese is spoken, to which we have no equivalent in english. The translations struggle to showcase this side on Kenshin. This extends to characters who end their words in nyaa to sound cute. It makes sense in japanese because the sound of the word is very close to the nyaa sound. But you cant really do the same with meow in a lot of english words.

I personally thinking that voice acting in general has improved over the years, and I would need to see an example of which anime sounds exactly like a 50s anime cus I cannot find one that sounds anything alike. Even cross generational anime like Gundam can be used for comparison on how different voice acting sounds like in the present.
I watched a few episodes of the original saint seiya, and compared it to the Hades OVA which was released something like 15 years after the original, and you can see a clear shift in how VAs approached the anime the second time around.

I do not mind having to read subs, that is how i watched anime since i can remember. I come from a spanish speaking country, so a lot of the anime we got had subs since there was no team to do spanish subs so i get i am really used to it

  9. While all of the Zodiac members have had a lot of their abuse internalized, Rin definitely is one of the worst cases. Akito literally took everything from her, not even leaving her Haru.

I absolutely understand how her pain has damaged her and how much she must hate herself and want to keep others from being hurt because of her.

BUT I CANNOT FORGIVE HER FOR TRYING TO FCKIN TAKE TOHRUS HEAD OFF WHEN SHE ALMOST KICKED HER AS A HORSE LIKE HOLY SHT WOMAN YOU ALMOST KILLED ONE OF THE BEST MCs OF ALL TIME DAGNABBIT

  10. I disagree that voice acting sounds the same in japanese. I can somewhat attribute you saying that because usually the same VAs get cast for a few anime at a time. I think most Jap VAs put more effort into their acting and a lot more expressive than English VAs. Like in FMA whenever they have to do a yell or a roar in english it just sounds so lame, but in japanese you can feel the energy the VA put into that particular take. I find that anime is rather always trying to be the counterculture, always breaking the mold and not trying to be cemented in anything that could be called tradition. The great majority of the anime industry is somewhat shamed by japanese main stream, and its only a few sectors of japan that have embraced anime as a regular entertainment medium. People forget that japan IRL is not like japan in anime, and that usually being into anime beyond a certain age is considered no bueno. Things have been better in this last decade, but its not like there is a cadre of anime perfectionists that are like ANIME MUST BE MADE THIS WAY TRUE NIHON STYLE. Also for me a lot of anime can potentially be lost in translation. Some word puns that have to do with the way things are pronounced are completely lost and often have to be replaced with english puns that make little to no sense and take away from the cleverness or dorkiness of the character or situation that was mean originally. For me the biggest time a dub messed up is when in scenes where everyone is supposed to be quiet in the early dubs of DBZ, they filled it with random conversations, or made characters say things that were more wholesome to make the good guys not seem bloodthirsty.

I have yet to find one single dub that really captures all the things Jap VAs put into their characters. I do not think it is impossible for it to happen, but i have yet to see it.

For comparison here is the FMA brotherhood in Jap

    Here it is in english

A lot of the impact of the scene is lost, because the VAs dont showcase the same level of emotion.
