There's going to be a solar eclipse in a few days here and since the path of totality is going to cut right through the middle of the US a lot of people here will be in a position to get a good look. Anyone have plans? I hear that things like reservations for hotels along the path are already booked solid. Hopefully the weather will be clear. It's been cloudy/rainy off and on here all week. If you want to know the times and such for your area then timeanddate has a nice site. Have fun and make sure to protect your eyes! There's a lot of interesting things going on during an eclipse, not all of which require looking in the direction of the sun. Make sure to look around you as well. For example I took this pic of the sun shining through the trees in front of my house during the '11 eclipse. Note the crescent shapes of the sun in the road on the ground in the tree's shadow! Here's another of the same phenomenon on my driveway.

So there's a spacecraft named JUNO that's in orbit around Jupiter. There's a camera on the JUNO spacecraft called (strangely enough) "JunoCam". JunoCam images are downloaded and made publicly available on a web site almost as soon as they reach the ground. The public is encouraged to download these images, process them, and re-upload their creations to share with the rest of the world. "We invite citizen scientists to explore new ways to process these images to continue to bring out the beauty and mysteries of Jupiter and its moons." The spacecraft is primarily interested in the main planet so of course there's tons of detailed pictures of Jupiter. Recently the spacecraft had a close encounter with Io, one of the larger, volcanically active moons of Jupiter. The spacecraft passed within 900 miles of the surface so now there's a bunch of good pictures of Io on the site as well. for instance:

Looks like the tip of one of Ingenuity's rotors touched the ground as it was trying to land. These rotors need to rotate at almost 3,000rpm to keep the vehicle aloft in the extremely thin Martian air. They also need to be extremely light because they had to be launched from Earth and every ounce adds to the cost of the launch. Accordingly they're made of carbon fiber. As you might expect, when such a rotor contacts the ground at that speed the result is severe damage to the rotor and the loss of the ability to fly.

Anime has been around longer than most "trendy", semi, or hardcore fans would care to acknowledge. On the flip side, there are many rooted fans that refuse to explore anything new. Always go in with little to no preference or expectations when exploring Anime because you never know what you might be missing. If you're into Old School Anime; What is a watch-worthy title and what newer title have you been curious about? OR If you're only into New School Anime; What is a watch-worthy title and what older title have you been curious about?

“The TAGSAM head performed the sampling event in optimal conditions. Newly available analyses show that the collector head was flush with Bennu’s surface when it made contact and when the nitrogen gas bottle was fired to stir surface material. It also penetrated several centimeters into the asteroid’s surface material. All data so far suggest that the collector head is holding much more than 2 ounces of regolith.” So much in fact that the plastic flap that was supposed to close and seal the sample inside is stuck open, leaking the material that was collected inside the TAGSAM head. There was no hard deceleration on impact either. The surface material at least is extremely loosely bound together. Someone at work said it was like hitting a big, fluffy pillow full of gravel. https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-osiris-rex-spacecraft-collects-significant-amount-of-asteroid
