Worst anime dad

Hey dudes and dudettes,

How are things in Anime World I putz around Instagram a bit and I often come across clips of cons and someone interviewing the congoers for various hot takes and

surveys. One topic that comes to mind is "Worst Anime Dad". The two most popular answers are Goku and Tucker from Alchemist. I would like to add the dad from

Evangelion. Look up the word "douchebag" and it says "see him". He abandoned Shinji as a kid and expects him to fly the EVA-1, not caring if he dies in battle

(although, granted, Shinji is a whiny little bitch who needs a good slap once in awhile). Thoughts? Does anyone have a bad dad in mind?

I just thought of another "Anime Bad Dad". Ivan Dryar from Fairy Tail. He turns his back on Makarov and tries to kill his son Laxus for the lacrima in his chest.

I was going to make a jokey post about how it’s obviously Goku, but once you mentioned Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist, that pretty much sealed it for me. Tucker is on a whole different level of awful.

For me, Gendō Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion is hard to beat. He treats Shinji more like a tool than a son and practically never shows him any affection. That said, Shou Tucker is probably still the worst if we judge his actions.

Everyone's heard about Shou Tucker but how about a real sleeper hit of a worse dad? My vote is for Shun Ayasaki from Hayate no Gotoku.

To be fair, one or two out of every couple who have kids seem to either disappear or become incredibly busy, leaving them in the care of a grandfather who generally gives them limitless funds and access to dark magical artifacts. I don't think he would actually be considered the worst anime dad of all time, but for me personally, Kotaro Sato's dad comes to mind first (from Kotaro Lives Alone.) He's a violent alcoholic who would neglect his son and abuse him both physically and emotionally.

What makes him so scary in my eyes is the fact that people like him really do exist in real life. Maybe the fact that the way he treats his own child is not uncommon in the real world makes it seem like less in comparison to characters like Shou Tucker or Gendo Ikari, but I think it makes him significantly scarier.

Real children go through hell because of people like him and I personally find that much worse.
