Email Client

What email client do you use? I've tried Thunderbird, Inky, Opera, Windows Live Mail, Foxmail, Postbox, eM Client, and probably a few others that I can't remember right now. I'm currently using Mailbird which seems to do what I want fairly well, my only complaint is that it is a bit slower than a few of the others in retrieving mail on bootup.

Admittedly I haven't used a desktop email client for a long time now since I switched to Gmail, have used the webmail interface ever since.

Even at work we've moved away from Outlook's desktop application in favour of Google Apps which includes the better version of Gmail.

Wait... what where you using before Gmail? Yahoo Mail? I've been using Gmail for years, and even forward one of my yahoo accounts to a gmail one. I'm not too much of a fan of webmail as it needs to be open all the time in a tab, and since I close my browser constantly out of habit, thats not going to happen. I never really liked Outlook, but how does Google Apps have a better version of Gmail? (I looked it up, and they seem to be the same thing, its just that Google Apps comes with the rest of their applications, which appear to be separate applications? Maybe not.)

Now that's really stretching my memory. :? That would be Hotmail (before it became Windows Live Mail / Outlook online).

That is true indeed and I admit I pretty much have my browser open almost all the time when I'm on my desktop. However, there are extensions and separate programs that can provide Gmail desktop notifications. I'm using this Chrome extension called Checker Plus for Gmail which provides notifications even when my Gmail tab or Chrome is closed completely. Works pretty well. ^_^

Having said that if you have a Smartphone or Tablet and you've setup your mail on that device you would likely be getting mail notifications on that too.

Google Apps is aimed towards business/enterprise use, so yes very similar to their usual apps (Drive, Gmail, Docs, Sites, etc). The main difference is it ties them together and allows you to brand it with your own logo, and you get much more storage. I'm seeing more schools and businesses using it as it is convenient having Google manage those services.

That's probably best reserved for another discussion thread I think. ;)

So, Mailbird doesn't like it when I hibernate the computer and open it again, as it stops checking mail for some reason :? Since I'm not going to stop hibernating, I'm going to move back to eM Client which looks nice and works (im not really sure why I switched in the first place :P) @Optic: I did actually try out the chrome extension, but it felt kinda wierd not having a dedicated window to email, and it compressed my emails... so yeah, I didn't like that very much.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by it compressed your emails? It's only purpose is to provide pop-up alerts, clicking on them should link you directly to your Gmail inbox and open the relevant email. To my knowledge it shouldn't be editing your emails? :?

Oh, well then :P I wasn't expecting having to open Gmail, as the web client is kinda meh, imo. But more importantly, I would attempt to use it, but you can't change the location of the notification to the bottom right? Maybe I'm overlooking this feature... if not, it really needs to be added.

@Optic: Well, after giving it a fair chance, it seems to be to my liking with desktop notifications turned off. That way, I don't even need to use the web client.

I use Windows Live, although I used to use Yahoo mail.

I remember using that. If I remember correctly, the only thing I didn't really like was the ribbons. I'm kinda picky about design >_< (I feel like there was something else, but nothing is coming to mind right now :P)

It looks good enough for me, at least.

I think I got tired of Yahoo because I was tired of using what used to be my primary email address, but since it seems like they started making you enter a cellphone (which I do not have) number during account registration or something like that, so I just switched to something else.

Strange, I never had to enter my cellphone number, I just clicked a button saying something like "I do not wish to enter my cellphone number" and I never saw that page again :P Anyway, you're probably better with something else as Yahoo got hacked last year.

No, I meant that I remember it asking for that as a part of creating a new account, x.x. I've had the "enter a cellphone number" thing pop up on my old account, but since it was an older account, it couldn't force me.

Oh, sorry :? It's kinda late, so I kinda skipped over that part xD

Anyway, thats strange that they would do that, although you could have done what I do when I have to put in a mobile device: 123-456-7890. Its never failed me before. :)

I've decided to use Gmail Notifier as it doesn't complain about the Chrome version like Checker Plus for Gmail does, and it still functions relatively the same. I might switch back to Checker Plus if I hear back from the Torch team whether or not they are continuing their beta version (which should be around the current stable version); however, I've gotten pretty used to this extension, so I might just keep it.

My setup as of now, is using Mailbird, which is a really nice full feature email client. On top of that, I use Checker Plus for only sound notifications where I have a voice clip of a kantai collection character, Ashigara, telling me that I have mail.

Actually, seeing how Checker Plus' UI has been updated since last time, I may just try it out instead of Mailbird.

You gave me no credit for telling you all of this? ;_;

I have Gmail Notifier with Ikazuchi telling me I have mail. I wish I could have it so that a picture of her also shows up at the bottom of the screen, but I guess that's asking for too much.
