External HDDs

Hey guys.

Always good to have an External HDD especially when dealing with photos, videos or general backups. These devices come under two categories which are the HDD sizes inside: 2.5" (laptop size) and 3.5" (desktop size).

  • The 2.5" ones are the most popular as they're smaller, portable and USB powered, so they don't need an AC power cord.
  • The 3.5" ones typically stay on your desk because they're much bigger and need AC power as they usually have a cooling fan in-built and often have more interfaces such as E-SATA and FireWire.

My Recommendation

I recently got a new 2.5" External HDD: the Western Digital My Passport 2 TB which has USB 3. It's GREAT, I can't believe this tiny thing has more capacity than my previous 2 External HDDs combined... And it's decently priced, I got this one a few months back at $200 USD from Amazon but I see it has dropped to $165.
