True...but for me, it's a meh situation. It's like I can't two things at the same time such as look at pictures and read. I think the last comic/manga I read was I Kill Giants which was years ago. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, I can see where others are coming from with this.

I suppose I never thought about it that way. I just always thought of the panels in a comic, or graphic novel to be more of a supportive thing to further help describe the story being told, but to each their own. To your point though I do see how pics can be somewhat detracting especially in a deeply woven story.

I've dipped my toes in a variety of creative outlets. In high school I used to draw a fair bit and would do a lot of work in Adobe software, namely InDesign and Illustrator. I knew my way around Photoshop and may have even once thought I could make it as a graphic designer or some such. I tried editing videos, but that quickly crashed and burned for me since I couldn't share them (the upload would completely unfurl our internet bills.) What stuck with me was writing. I kept a notebook and wrote countless short stories in it throughout the years. Writing, much like drawing, is an inexpensive way to express yourself, and I needed a simple way to do that without running the bills up or constantly needing to resupply with anything but a pen and paper.

If only the mental burn from my day jobs left a little more room to feed my creativity these days. :(

I don't think I touched on this earlier, but I know next to nothing about InDesign. My understanding is that it is for the print, or emag industry.

I could help with some concepts on video editing if you had any questions. I find it to be a lot like photo editing, or more like animation honestly which in a way it is.

What kinda stuff did you write in your short stories?

    Hmmm, tough question, IMO.

As far as art style is concerned, I'd say it depends on the anime. There are beatiful anime from all eras, and awful looking ones, I think. One of my favourites is Cowboy Bebop - there's just something about the art style that just fits it perfectly, the colours and the drawings, and I wouldn't want to see it made with modern technology. Overall, I don't have any specifiy era that I prefer here.

Animation is a bit different, though - but still depends in the individual anime. Animtions, if the budged is right, simply looks better on modern anime, in general and that's partly due to the possibilities of modern production. Especially pre 2000s anime reused many animtions which tends to look rediculous...

Story... thats's tough. While many older anime (pre 90s/80s) liked to usethe "fight the evil empire", "rescue the damsel in distress" and "you are the chosen hero" (yes, there are many exceptions and also many modern examples for these ideas) premise mixed with certain clichés, modern stories like to incorporate some kind of moral ambiguity, explore deeper meanings, etc... (again, there are exceptions for all cases but I think these things are popular currently) - overall, even if the same concepts over time get reiterated, (for example the lone otaku with his own harem of babes, or the genious character somehow getting entangled into some war, and the stories build upon these premises tend to be similar and can get boring over time) there simply is more variety today, generally speaking. But then again, I don't know that many 70s, 80s anime...

Very well outline. I love how you explained this. I fully agree on how silly the 90s was in its habbit of reusing animations even though this was a big thing of not just anime, but even western cartoons of the era.

Maybe a year ago at this point, if not longer, I wrote a list about 10 things that need to be changed in anime, and most of them were addressed towards recent anime. Not just because I want to see anime improve as it goes on, but also because the stereotypes of older anime, even ones as far back as Gigantor, are more tolerable to me than current/modern anime. Not that all current/modern anime are bad, but there are a lot of them that are not nearly as good as they should be, mostly because they rely too much on things that were just small parts of anime past. The things that were only slightly annoying in the past, like the constant perfect main protagonist, have become more rampant, and things like that make modern anime more annoying than older ones. So yeah, I prefer older anime to new anime.

I think I see what you're touching on here. The rate of anime being produced has more then increased 10 times since the early 2000s therefore much like rest of the media industry gotta wide through the crap to find the gems. This in my mind is largely true, but for me I am far less judgemental of anime then I am western animation, or tv series.

I too would like to see this list.

Not much else tech-wise here.  Once upon a time maybe...but that time has passed me by.  Wish I had taken some programming/tech classes in college.  I play video games but no modding.  I am planning on upgrading to a fancy (ahem...expensive) telescope soon (with it's own software to boot) and doing some astroimaging so I might need a better computer for that.  Will cross that bridge after I get there lol...

Thats all good tech is such a wide range of things. Plus there is plenty of other geeky things out there to take interest in.

I can certainly see that, though most of the newer operating systems can see things just fine, since it comes out to about what rough estimates from (x1000^y)/(1024^y) are still pretty accurate. It would also depend on if the OS resides on that drive or not.

As for retro games, probably SaGa 2 (FF Legend 2, as it is called here) would probably be my biggest, or maybe Pac Man or Tetris. I would have included Dragon Quest, but because those games are on Android and iOS, I do not need an emulator for them.

Yes that is very true. There is also a lot that goes into formatting a drive logically that ends up using a little space anyway. Though yes some manufactures are better at allowing for more space then others. Sega is awesome I love Sonic at least until he kinda fizzed out in the early 2000s per say. I also loved House of the dead back in the day.

I learned how to drink when I was already working, but just during occasions. Although, ever since I went here in France, I can say I drink most often than I used to. It's because of the culture here. Before meals, they have apperitif which involves alcohol. Even the main plate, they still drink wine. But now, I'm trying to lessen my alcohol consumption here.

Oh most defiantly America has a horrible hold out till your 20s till you drink culture causing so many issues. Need I say more.

I'm still using an outdated OS on my main computer.

Update to new OS on that computer is not a good idea because it will mess up a lot.

I'm still using that computer because its spec is high.

The problem is some websites that use HTTPS is no more accessible by that computer.

No HTTPS problem with big commercial sites.

Until now I'm browsing some HTTPS site by remote into another low-spec computer so
    it's not a good experience.

I wonder why many sites that feature HTTPS do not have HTTP fallback.

Also only few non-commercial HTTPS sites are accessible by old OS like WinXP/2003.

It sounds like your having more then one issue that way look like one problem even though it may be many.

I want to start off by answering your question on the protocol fall back. That isn't exactly how it works. http, or https are functions used by your browser, and the website in question to deliver the information to you. The only difference between http, and https is the security more sespficily the encryption of the traffic while using the site. It can be more complicated then that, but just wanted to help clarify this first. Last point here is the website in question dose make the choice to use one or the other not both.

As far as the issue you are likely having it sounds like you may have some corrupted temp files causing certain sites that originally downloaded them for you to view the site not to display properly, or at all. You should try running a disk clean up on a windows machine. Also go ahead, and delete all cashes from your web browser including those temp files. You may also want to reset your browser to its default settings as well to ensure its operating properly. It may not hurt to update your browser too while your at it.

There is also a good chance you need to call your ISP as they may have some configurations that got messed up on their end.

I also wanted to ask how comfortable are you with working with your modam, or router? Wanted to ask before I go any further plus I think may be best to try these things first.

Personally, I'm not really into comics or manga. I really like books though but I don't like looking at pictures. I much rather look at moving pictures aka frames or gifs.

I can see where you come from in this mind set, but often even with pictures/art right in front of you with a comic, and manga you can still imagine their personality. This can be very powerful even more so if you are less Fillmore with the series in question.

  9. Well lets just say my entire home is anime, or gaming related. The walls are draped in wall scrolls which I buy most often when I attend cons. I also have a sizable collection of plushies. I also have a very large manga collection as well. There are plans to get a couple body pillows as well as a comforter too once I get my new bed next year.Yah I am a true Otaku, and quite Kuundere.

  10. This is yet another I must play. The art is adorable, and I'm ok with lower quality audio. The art more then makes up for it.

Also dose this have more then one volume.

  11. This post game is fun. Basically each person continues the count till we reach the number listed in this case 1,000 is the ending number. I have played it tons of times before, but didn't see it posted here. So lets have some fun. You can include a short message with your number to keep things interesting. Also how you write out the numbers is up to you, but good to keep an on exactly what number we're on I've miscounted in the past more so near the end. Just putting that out there.

    Happy counting. :)

@ArchieKun  I felt it had the standard cast of personalities. Different setting, different names, but really the same stuff (it always makes money).  I did not find it original but my best friend loves Scarlet. I watched maybe 10 episodes then dropped it. The genre itself just isn't my cup of tea these days. In my youth, yes. In my withering 30's? Nope.I wasn't into Naruto either if that tells you anything...but my best friend was. Guess if you were a Naruto fan you'd enjoy FT.

Fair enough, I rather enjoyed it. Fairy Tail being one of the few mainstram series I enjoy. Though I get where your cumming from.

I liked Fairy Tail in the early episodes, but, after a while, it felt like it was going on too long, just like One Piece. Only difference is that One Piece is still going, and Fairy Tail is finally over.

For me I liked the first 6 seasons. Those were the earlier more funny ones with more charm. Season 7 is where things went down hill.

I remember seeing Rave Master on television, though I did not see it all the way through until I got it on iTunes.

Sadly, the true conclusion is manga exclusive.

Ya Rave Master was guilty of just stopping abruptly like many series in anime terms with a much longer manga.

So what dose everyone think of Fairy Tail? I ask because like Naruto it has stood test of time, and literally changed as time passed all be it not at the same magnitude being a bit shorter.

There's certainly plenty to like in the 1990-2000 era.. Princess Mononoke, Cowboy Bebop, Whisper of the Heart, Kiki's, Trigun, Lain, etc.  But there's a lot to like since 2000 too.   .. Your Name, Clannad/After Story, Spirited Away, the Monogatari series, Your Lie in April....   Before that was Nausicaa, Totoro.. (I could go on, but I don't want to start showing my age :D )  Different eras, different styles, appeals to different demographics, sure, but I wouldn't want to have to do without any of it, and I'm not about to attempt to say which was "better".

Your Lie in April  is very good series. My partner had me watch it. I was hesitant at first, but I certainly see the attractiveness to it.

I have favorites in differents eras, like Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Your Lie in April, so I do not really have too much of a preference, as I just care about getting something good.

However, when I watch anime, I mostly pay attention to new ones, as those might have something older series do not have.

Same I have largely been paying more attention to the newer one's on my own, but my partner, and I just finished Rave Master which is a bit older being the predecessor to Fairy Tail.

  15. One thing that has changed throughout the ages especially in the 2010s, and going strong for the 2020s is the aditude as well as stigma surrounding anime. It has become far far more widly accepted even from people that do not really get into it. This is shown  in a lot of dubs that get released. Even though I do not care for dubs they do have a place, and some people like them. One thing they are good for though seems to be gauging where the industry is headed outside Japan. it is also a good way to see how the camunity reacts to it as weell. One thing I focus on when trying to get an idea of this is the amount of censorship in the dub, or outside Japan manga release. Nowa days you rarely see censorship of anime. This is why I favor the newer more modern series.
