Watching anime in a theater

It doesn't happen often but I like when small theaters pick up anime movies to show. Doesn't happen enough as Clayton said but it's always a good time. Like going early and chatting with people about different shows before the movie which is nice. One of the theaters near me that shows anime once in awhile has a attached restaurant so makes a great night out.

Just saw an article that the original Vampire Hunter D movie will be in theaters in April as part of it’s 40 year anniversary. Hoping it will be at a local one since it’s been a long time since I watched it.

The only anime/Japanese animated movies that are screened more than once throughout the year at my local theaters are Studio Ghibli movies. I have not seen any current day anime movies given a second screening which sucks.

Ghibli Fest has announced it’s 2025 schedule

For as long as I’ve been watching anime, I’ve never seen Grave of the Fireflies. I could always just watch on Netflix, but given the movie’s reputation, the big screen experience might make it more impactful. Of course there’s the potential embarrassment of breaking down in tears in public 😭

I agree with that. If there's not people wanting to go past you during the film there's someone noisily eating something or a group making what they think are funny comments. If you're really 'fortunate' you'll have some bored pre-teen kicking the back of your seat and if you actually ask its parents to tell it to stop they get annoyed with you for having the audacity to complain about their little darling.

I’ve seen at least a dozen anime movies/early premieres at the cinema in recent years and have never had an issue with this. Perhaps because I tend to go to the sub-titled screenings that seem to primarily attract grown-up nerds 🤓

I noticed this as well, and I also haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies but any time I consider watching it I'm not in the mood to be sad.
