Hello friends!  I see we don't have many traditional role playing threads up here yet so here goes!  I'm used to people just jumping in and (provided they've read at least the last ten posts) adding to the story as they please!  Please stay on plot topic, no trolling and have fun ^_^

Setting: Present day, New York

Character: Roselyn

Age: 24

Appearance: ugly-anime-girl_256.781987.jpg.fdca142da2065ab0abfe57d569c72832.jpg

Personality: scrappy, self reliant, compassionate, optimistic, too trusting, a gossip, crummy dresser, social, great programmer

CHAPTER 1:  Outbreak

Rain pattered on the window of Roselyn's apartment on the 19th floor of an overcrowded complex.  She had just finished unpacking the last of her boxes and splayed out, exhausted on the couch.  It had been a frantic move after breaking up with her long-time cheating, no-good, selfish, liar and narcissist of a girlfriend.  They'd been together for 5 years and Roselyn had always thought Maggie was just working late, or out with her parents... the lies were always so good and the fake sincerity, so believable.  Her false reverie had been shattered when a girl showed up one day looking for Maggie, distraught and seething.  She thought Maggie had been cheating on her!  Roselyn and the girl talked the night away and by the end they were comforting each other and Roselyn was searching for her own apartment.  She'd moved out over the weekend without ever confronting Maggie.  And now she'd never have to.  Maggie's number and all social media accounts were blocked and Roselyn, filled with unprecedented motivation and spark had been excited to start over.

It was a good time to move, the U.S. had just put a quarantine effect into motion and the time for sitting back and coding was at hand!  She was prepared with two twenty pound bags of rice, sauces for days and enough eggs for a month.  She was so glad to have work and an income in uncertain times like these.  She'd miss going out, but was honestly ready for some intensive alone time.  Time to write in her journal and play the guitar and watch endless shows.

Another alert popped up on her cellphone.  The second one that month.  This time quarantine was mandatory.  It didn't say why but required all people to stay at home.  There were very few exceptions.  Only people running energy facilities and infrastructure.  This was serious.  Stores were to be closed for the foreseeable future.  Her phone blew up.  Snapchat and Twitter were filled with people ranting and celebrating and worrying.  That lasted about a week until the first viral video was exposed.

A woman recorded a tousle between two men on the street through her second story window.  One man threw a punch and the other grabbed on his arm, mid-swing and began rabidly chewing on it.  The assailant screamed and screamed and the woman shooting the video began to hyperventilate while calling her husband.  The video was quickly taken down but not before more similar ones resurfaced.

Roselyn heard once scream in her apartment complex that week but then everything was quiet.  Everyone, including the internet was starting to believe.

Three days had passed since the scream... Roselyn peered through the peephole in her apartment door out to the hallway.  All was quiet.  She gingerly released the lock, being as silent as possible.  The door let out a quiet creak as she slowly cracked it open.  A little squelch sounded.  She looked down.  Just below her door and continuing down the hallway to the right, just out of eyeshot through the peephole, was a trail of blood.

Roselyn quickly shut the door.  It closed audibly and she imagined it echoing down the hall.

Oh god. It was definitely real.

That's ok.  She had enough rice to last a month. At least.  She could ration it out to two, she thought.

She swiped the screen of her cell and dialed...

Personality: Miles is a placid, analytical young man who prioritises his education and future above everything and feels most content when he is alone. Although he is willing to be a 'team-player' in certain situations, Miles always seeks whatever benefits him the most.

Chapter One

Setting down his groceries before his front door Miles searched his blazer pocket, letting out a long, weary sigh before his fingertips came into contact with his apartment key. It had been a tiring week at the firm, the announcement about a national quarantine had made everybody behave frantically and made every case trusted to Edgar and Ellis more complex. The quarantine, however, did not discourage the managing partner from assigning every available associate with a task. Although Miles and his colleagues were not ecstatic with working on files during the next few weeks, or even months of isolation, he did not completely mind if it allowed him to be one step closer towards that promotion.

Opening his door, Miles picked up the shopping he set down and entered his front room. He had moved in a few years ago after he had graduated from college, it wasn't anything remotely fancy and nowhere near what other lawyers owned, but it had to do. It was just him for now, no pets, no significant other and no family. Miles parents and younger sister were situated in Massachusetts which was not a huge distance away, however, after what began as weekly phone calls with his mother soon became monthly FaceTimes until it turned into the occasional text messages. He had a job and a busy schedule which only made room for sending the yearly birthday cards, Mother's Day bouquets and only attending Christmas- apart from the last year, he was swamped with work at the time. Strangely enough, Miles didn't mind being alone. Although he didn't have a big family and was not close with his other relatives, his parents and sister were sometimes too much to handle, the thought of them and their outgoing personalities tired him out. All of his friends, the few he had had settled down and had children or moved to a post abroad and there was not much hope in the dating scene for him, he was not very sociable but also not very awkward, he just could not find anybody who matched his energy. or somebody who he could keep up with. Or maybe the problem was that he did not try, he just came to the conclusion that he liked being alone.

After loosening his tie and turning on the smart tv, Miles awaited for the latest update on the situation. The details regarding the quarantine had yet to be released, all that was instructed by the government was that everybody should refrain from going outside. Miles had constructed a simple plan, he had bought fresh food which he would depend on before it expired, then he would switch to the tinned and canned food and rice he had bought a few days ago. His eyes were fixed on the headlines which addressed the latest viral video of a gruesome brawl between a pair of men, Miles did not think much of it, he believed it had to be the common type that surfaced whenever there was a national emergency: the panic buyers, those who claimed the end of the world was near and people whose morals disappeared because they switched on their survival mode. He cut out social media after he had left college, it was a distraction to his work and he made sure to give his number to those who needed him but due to this quarantine, he downloaded Twitter onto his IPhone so he could keep an eye out for important updates. Suddenly, Miles' phone vibrated on top of the coffee table, the screen lit up and displayed a text from his sister, Vera. Hope you're ok. Call mom, she's worried.

The following days were very productive, after assuring his family that he was safe and instructing Vera to not go outside and meet friends, Miles managed to read a few books that were collecting dust on his bookshelf, go through a couple of files, manage his emails and eat limited but healthy and balanced meals. He may have missed his usual coffee order which he enjoyed getting every morning, but he was content with being isolated in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his favourite books, his work and having decent food. One night, however, hindered Miles' routine. He had just about managed to fall asleep after two hours of listening to thuds and loud noises from the apartment above, however, the arguing which followed from his neighbours had also made it difficult and so he slept three hours later than usual. It irritated him that he was never completely alone in a huge apartment complex.

OOC: Ok, so I thought my character could be from the same complex as yours, but they've never really crossed paths. I hope you're ok with this post, it's been a while since I've rped so I might be slow with the character development and individual plot!

Character Name: Alana Drusen
Age: 35

Appearance:

image.png.0e4cf2c984b0b5fd08e3ef58e892a79b.png

Personality: Diamond in the rough-She has a stern exterior but inside she is very caring & genuinely wants to make sure that those around her are ok, intelligent, tall & attractive with intense eyes & long, purple hair, remains calm in tense situations, always seems to have a backup plan, can handle herself in hand to hand combat & can quickly learn to use or make random weapons.

Chapter 1:
The week had been stressful with the abrupt news that everyone in her office would be required to work from home effective immediately & Alana had never been more thankful that she had ignored her naysaying counterparts during her 20s & started a career in commercial finance anyway. And although on a personal level the term 'essential worker' didn't quite sit well with her, she was immensely thankful to not be one of the millions of people who had lost their jobs due to the outbreak. Despite being given such short notice that her work situation was changing, Alana didn't panic. Hell, she never really panicked, especially when she knew she was prepared such as now. She had begun gathering emergency supplies like non-perishable food & bottled water, first aid supplies, basic medicine, toiletries, flashlights & batteries, etc. several months back when she first began seeing reports of the new viral strain on social media & easily had enough to last for almost 6 months. Being single & living alone during a large scale outbreak would present its fair share of challenges, but for Alana it also gave her an advantage in regards to rationing out food & supplies if it came down to that.

Alana finished preparing the files she was working on for next week's big loan closing for one of her major healthcare investors & went into the kitchen to begin making dinner. As she turned on the kitchen light, she glanced at the backpack she had set down by her front door. She had packed it the night she saw the story about two men fighting which eventually resulted in one man biting the other. The backpack contained a few changes of clothes & underwear, a pair of running shoes, an extra phone charger(her extra laptop charger was already packed in her shoulder bag where she placed her work laptop every night once she logged off), a flashlight with extra batteries, a travel size first aid kit, some over the counter meds & pain killers, basic hygeine items, a bottle of water & some light snacks, pepper spray, & a combat knife. She prayed she wouldn't need to evacuate suddenly but if she did, she'd at least be ready to go at a moment's notice. She had also made sure that her car had a full tank of gas & had even purchased an extra canister which was full & in her trunk, right next to her second emergency backpack filled with the exact same items as the first bag, in the event that something crazy happened & she either left or dropped the first bag. These precautions may have seemed extreme but Alana knew she didn't have anyone else to depend on so she needed to be sure that she had all her bases covered.

She had just pulled what she needed out of the fridge to make herself a large salad when her phone started vibrating. She was getting numerous alerts from her social media accounts warning people to stay indoors due to a rash of violent attacks that had begun happening in her city. A chill ran down Alana's spine. She quickly made & ate her salad before taking a quick shower & putting on some clean clothes. She had no plans of leaving right away but she would hate for something to happen in the middle of the night while she slept & then have little time to get ready to leave. She'd sleep on the couch in her clothes tonight just in case.

Chapter One

------------

Hearing the news, Draco didn't know what to think. This outbreak was enough to give this man the stress of the world! With this in mind, Draco was driving home from work...soon stopping at a red light to notice how..chaotic yet empty things were. He didn't let this get to him though, he continued driving until he made it to his little apartment complex, parking out by the front. He stepped out the car, walking up to his door, unlocking it. He entered his apartment dropping his keys at the table and looking at the TV, which was left on. The News spoke about the outbreak and the chaos that unleashed with it...it cause Draco even more stress.

Draco walked to his kitchen, grabbing a beer, cracking it open. He took a nice swig of it before sitting down on the couch, trying to relax. Until his phone began to buzz in his pocket, he took a look at his phone to see it was a message from his best friend. It was only a check up message, after all, this outbreak was crazy enough to send anyone into a frenzy. Draco responded with a simple.."I'm ok, thanks". And he sat his phone down. He looked back at the TV, sipping his beer, and he sighed.

About 30 minutes passed, he decided to get out of his work clothes and shower. He stood up, undoing his tie and unbuttoning his shirt. He was shirtless now. He walked into the little bathroom and turned on the shower. He took off the rest of his clothes, and got into the shower, this should calm him down, right? Maybe. He let the water hit his body, and he took multiple deep breaths as he tried to compose himself from chewing at his nails due to the stress. He was doing just fine, until he heard sirens going down the street...what was going on?
