drill Posted September 19, 2015 Share Posted September 19, 2015 [FLOAT_RIGHT] [/FLOAT_RIGHT] The "school sword action" story revolves around Magic Knights, modern magic-users who fight with weapons converted from their souls. Ikki Kurogane goes to a school for these Magic Knights, but he is the "Failed Knight" or "Worst One" who is failing because he has no magical skills. However, one day, he is challenged to a duel by Stella, a foreign princess and the "Number One" student. In this duel, "the loser must be obedient for life." I was questioning whether or not to watch this, but ended up deciding to do so. Being that the manga is on my top 10 favorites, I figured it was worth a shot at least. Alright, sounds good. If I don't like the first episode, I still recommend you check out the manga if you're interested. The mock battle kept me on edge and it was really nice to watch. I felt it was a great start to this anime. I can't wait to see what happens next! Optic Episode 1 was was almost identical. They seem to be taking the same relative path, even down to some of the same type of ecchi situations at the same parts of the episodes. Both have overpowered MC's and pink haired princesses. I would say if you enjoyed one, you would enjoy the other as well. I really really really like the MC in this anime. Asterisk's MC is pretty cool but I really like Ikki. Finding out about Ikki's past invoked emotion in me which Asterisk has yet to do. The humour just seems forced and awkward... and what was with the bizarre music whenever there was an ecchi or awkward moment? Now having said that, Stella is a cute character. But her alone just wasn't enough to keep my interest in this one compared to Asterisk. I feel Asterisk has a much better OP, better music, a better looking academy, much more beautiful visuals - A1 Pictures has the edge over Silver Link on this one. I was a bit surprised how quickly the little sister came into the plot (as it felt like there was more time between stuff in the manga). Also, I was pretty sure that in the manga the clash between the two took place in a classroom, but whatever. Anyway, as long as we get to see the Seven Star Festival arc (which isn't even close to being completed in the manga), then I'll be fine. Overall a decent episode, and surprisingly rarely deviates from the manga. Out of anything, I really love seeing the fight scenes animated. Even so, the one fight I'm looking forward to will actually probably be around episode 8 or so at this rate. Anyway, look forward to next week's episode. My favorite part was probably when Stella stood up and defended Ikki Ikki standing up and punching himself in the face was amusing. Although, the same ending with the kiss happened, I think the manga built up to that point much better. And with this pacing, we may vary well see the one fight I'm looking forward to around episode 8 like I predicted earlier. As its at the very end of the next arc. I am a bit surprised on how they have handled this arc, as while the changes are slight, I felt that they were things that shouldn't have been changed due to a bit less character development across the board. I wish it would get a season 2....as I am really enjoying it. This episode was pretty decent. I liked how Ikki kept his cool when hit over the head by the bottle.
