Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an amazing anime with a strong story, great characters, and stunning visuals. I really enjoyed the emotional journey of David and how intense the action scenes were. The world of Night City feels alive and keeps you hooked from start to finish. I am a big Cyberpunk fan, and this series made me love the universe even more. I even tried a small cosplay and wore a david martinez jacket, which made me feel connected to the character. Overall, this show is a must-watch for anime and Cyberpunk fans, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

apparently the same “universe”, but a standalone story with different characters

The English dub really deserves more credit for that. Using the game’s slang naturally makes the conversations feel like they actually belong in Night City, rather than sounding like a standard anime dub with Cyberpunk visuals layered on top.

I’m also glad the new series is apparently going with a standalone cast. David and Lucy’s story ended strongly enough that bringing them back would risk weakening it. A different crew could explore another side of Night City while still keeping the same themes of ambition, identity and how quickly the city consumes people.

The original series has also held up surprisingly well through its collectibles. I was looking through some Cyberpunk: Edgerunners merchandise, and it reminded me how recognizable even the supporting character designs are. I’d especially like to see the new series introduce someone with the same immediate visual impact as Rebecca.

I agree about the visual side of Edgerunners. Even the smaller characters had really distinct designs, which made Night City feel more alive. Rebecca is probably the easiest example, but David and the rest of the crew had their own style too.

That’s also what I like about the fashion in the series. A good cyberpunk jacket can have a lot of personality without needing to copy a character exactly. I’d actually like to see the new series take that idea further and give the new cast some completely different looks.
