I'm quite happy to be regarded as a dinosaur, and I prefer the community aspect of forums.

I've already been called a dinosaur by a former workmate because I still use a Filofax.

To be honest, only money motivates me to do my work. When I draw something for myself, I often lose interest during the creation process. You can recall my Dark Knight (Kaldar Shadow Blade) project — I posted it earlier in this thread. Since then, I haven’t touched that project at all.

So if you're lacking motivation, you just need to find what truly drives you and keeps you charged up for action.

Also, my main job is as a graphic designer, and I frequently switch between tasks. Graphic design brings in much more income, but I'm slowly losing interest in that kind of creative work. I want to fully transition into commissions and draw at my own pace, instead of pulling all-nighters over crunch times on design projects.

I can feel you are moody artist that needs a strong motivation to create arts! Me I dont know, am getting my motivation using cute renders😅 My latest graphics nowaday are all females but motivation to create something different is still sleeping! I cant even continue my lessons in Adobe Animate and Cinema4d and Am so lazy to put some addons to my photoshop like plugins, filters, actions, brushes and so~

Speaking of graphics artist, am once before like yourself after graduating college tho am a working student at the library till grad supporting my parents. As an artist, earning here is good because it's a daily basis but after several years it feels it destroying my eyes because am also gaming so I switched different jobs without computers😊

By the way, are you earning well gettin a commision?

Oh, I totally get it about the lessons — I’ve got 25GB of video tutorials sitting on my drive that I haven’t watched in 2 or 3 years. Honestly, I don’t even remember what’s in there anymore. Maybe it's not even laziness — I think it’s because I already spent so much time studying. I did sculpture for 5 years and advertising for another 5 and school before this. At some point, everyone gets tired of learning.

There will come a moment when you feel the urge to "break through your skill ceiling" — it always does, sooner or later. But I’d love to get one more education at the Surikov Academy (in Saint Petersburg, Russia). A close friend of mine is currently studying there, and both the quality of teaching and his growing skill are truly inspiring and impressive. He's become a real master — right now he's working on designing mosaic art for a subway station. Not a bad way to leave your mark on history.

As for income — let's just say that in three months I was able to save up enough for a used bike from the mid-range category (not new, but in excellent condition). Exchange rates in my country might be different from yours, but still — it felt like an achievement. My monthly earnings from commissions are enough to cover rent, take my family out for lunch, and enjoy a beer in the evening. It's not huge, but more than I initially expected.
Still, most of my income comes from graphic design. https://www.behance.net/alexandrprotasov

I can feel this "break through your skill ceiling" so true and need to find something to neutralize that feeling.

Your friend is a master? I can picture that in mind! Like what said before I already met many artist including yourself. Those level that is hard to reach and very inspirational😊

Atleast you have a goal from getting commissions for your family, things and especially Beer🍺 thanks for the beer but my tongue rejects anytype of alcoholic beverages😛
