I've bought myself a new 24" full HD 1920x1080 monitor, the old one was looking a bit dull. It's still fine for text but not so good for photo and video editing.
Sora no Woto (Sound of the Sky)
An underated but excellent little series that makes for interesting and enjoyable watching.
Set during a long running war as as result of which much of the technical knowledge has been lost the series follows the lives of a small army squad of young girls based in a town on the edge of the inhabitable world. While the series has a serious storyline it's not without humour, most of which comes from the dialogue and actions, and reactions, of the characters.
I'm part way through watching Kurogane Communication. Following a major world war all the cities are in ruins and robot fighting machines roam the land. In the episode I've just watched the young girl, who the story revolves around, wanders round the ruins and finds a page from an old newspaper which is dated 2020.
As the series dates from 1998 the creators don't seem to have held out much hope for the world and expected it to be totally destroyed just 22 years later.
I was quite disappointed with the first series of this anime. It started off looking like it was going to be a decent slice of life series with an interesting storyline, then after a few episodes it turned into another by-the-numbers harem show.
The weather here can't make up its mind. This morning it was cold, wet and windy then this afternoon it changed to dry, bright and sunny, then it went to dull and overcast, now it's bright and sunny again.
I only saw a couple of episodes of Digi Charat, but Urusei Yatsura is a real blast from the past I had several volumes of that back in the days of VHS tapes. I'm really not sure about new versions of old series because they rarely capture the style of the original and can easily end up as pale imitations that annoy fans of the original series.
While I liked Urusei Yatsura I don't think it and other series, such as Ranma 1/2 and Dirty Pair, have really aged all that well. I've got some Ranma and DP DVDs which I brought in the early days of DVD and watching them now I wonder what I ever saw in them.
