  1. TFW you start a discussion months ago you hardly give two fucks about now. Jk, I think we are getting a lot of interesting responses here! I think the critiques and opinions we have offer a lot of good points and even better counter points. I'm still not sure about SAO, as I said I just don't think is a good series, but your opinions almost make wanna rewatch it with another mindset. I probably won't, but hey... what can I do, eh?
  2. Because of the popularization of streaming sites such as Crunchyroll, it has never been easier to follow seasonal anime if you are an international fan. Of course that streaming sites have been a thing for a long time, but now they are strengthened by these legal services. Back in the day there was no way to make sure a certain anime would ever arrive in the west. Now you can just go on Crunchyroll and watch an HD episode of an anime one hour after it airs in Japan. This is freaking nuts! The international anime community is growing now because of it and watching seasonal anime is becoming more of a thing.
  3. I wouldn't say it's guilty pleasure tho. The way the movie was constructed just seems way too much like an intentional comedy. The movie is merely based on the original work. They didn't destroy any characters, they only created new ones based on old characters. If you approach it as anything but a comedy the movie is pretty fucking bad tho. The cinematography is incredibly good, but the writing is really "meh". The acting was the best part of the movie as it felt incredibly cheesy. This feels like is intentionally a B movie and as an adaption of the original it does a decent job. Shame they didn't recapture anything but the campiness from the original (which, let's admit here, it was pretty campy at times).
  4. I liked the Death Note movie tho! I mean, I think it was intentionally campy and ridiculous. If I'm not mistaken even the creators of the original manga said they liked it. It was so freaking hilarious, man.
  5. I liked the Live Action version. It has this cinematic style from the original movie mixed with a bit of blade runner. It's a western movie based on an eastern property. I think that they tried to make Major a bit more human and less introspective. It feels more like a localized version of Ghost in the Shell than anything. I just don't like how they handled some of the dialogues and the ending. The ending of the live action movie is just so... you know, it's a typical western happy ending. I think both Majors went into their own unique changes, but it was a lot less impactful in the live action one. Still, the original Ghost in the Shell is now one of my favorite movies of all time.
  6. My bad, I should have specified more. Yeah, I meant english. Unless you know of any Brazilian dubs out there, but I doubt it.
  7. I'm currently having to work a whole lot and I need some help. I need an anime just to play in the background while I'm busy writing my assignments. So, basically I want an anime with a decent dub that is satisfying to listen to and occasionally glance over when I feel something important is happening. I doubt anyone will understand this request tbh hahaha
  8. Also, anything from Shadow Skill! Born Legend is really goddamn good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDc-wjzdle4
  9. Well, honestly I don't have a favorite anime genre. I enjoy a lot of things from action to psychological horror. I know this is a typical suggestion, but man, you gotta watch Higurashi if you want some tense horror. It's like a murder story that repeats itself with the same characters over and over. All the stories actually share the same murderer I believe, so it's sort of like a mystery for the audience. If you want another horror series go with Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales or its spin off Mononoke. They are both incredible horror anime with trippy as fuck animation and some pretty haunting moments. Ayakashi is three horror stories combined into 11 episodes with different styles and different characters. It has a phenomenal art direction. Mononoke on the other hand is just... you have to watch and see. It's just overall inspiring to look at times. I dunno why, but I'm in a horror vibe now.
  10. Yeah, I feel ya there. I always go for dual blades personally, but sometimes it can get really annoying to fight stronger enemies with it. I had to learn how to play with a Switch Axe, which has a big variety of faster combos, but even then maneuvering your character with it equipped feels really sluggish. There aren't many fast weapons in this game and I feel like the few it has are their most useful when grinding for materials killing small enemies, but that also goes with the grinding problem present through the game.
  11. So, essentially I was raised in a environment with a shitton of anime and manga. Both my brothers are quite a bit older than me and as I was growing up I used to watch everything they watched. My all time favorite anime was also the last one I saw before I stopped caring, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I also used to love Get Backers and Neon Genesis Evangelion. My brothers also had the complete Death Note manga series which also ended up with me. Now that I think about it, I did watch a lot of Digimon Tamers, Darker than BLACK, Medabots, Yu Yu Hashuko and og Fullmetal Alchemist. Blayblade was also one that I used to watch for my own sake, but even then I knew it was pretty bad. My brothers and I make fun of the brazilian dub even now. Captain Tsubasa was pretty unintentionally funny as well. Actually, maybe the last one I saw with one of my brothers was Higurashi (that shit is unsettling). I know there was a lot more stuff I used to watch, but I can't remember now.
  12. Well, Monster Hunter is not something that most people play for story. It's all about evolution in a sense. Being a hunter, you know? Adapting to different situations so you may be able to conquer giant beasts. I understand you tho, I think a good story can really add something special to this universe. Therefore, I'm SO excited for Monster Hunter Stories hehe
  13. YO, are you monster hunter fan?! Do you have a favorite monster?! Sorry if I seem overly excited, I'm just currently in love with monster hunter.
  14. My favorites are Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild. I want to a wait a bit longer before actually making a top 10 list because there is always the chance something crazy will happen and I'll suddenly find my new favorite game. Still, I lost my social life to both of these games and I don't regret a single bit!
  15. I don't believe in the concept of underrated and overrated since I believe this is pretty subjective... however, since I want to be a good sport I'll just say that everything from Darker than BLACK is gold and pretty much every song in any Studio Ghibli movie should be more recognized.
  16. I think it's already the second most viewed shounen anime in japan already. It's certainly on of the most popular when it comes to the main stream anime communities, but I think it's gonna take a little while until it explodes like Naruto did. Still, as long as My Hero academia keeps its quality it's probably going to take Naruto's place.
  17. Okay, I know this is a pretty weird subject, but I'm just really curious! Why do you enjoy SAO? This anime has become pretty popular, but I honestly don't think it is good. However, opinions are opinions and everyone has them, so I want to at least understand the fandom before I can say anything about it. My opinions are very simple: I really like the very beginning of the series, but then it just becomes sorta mediocre and by the second of the first season it becomes really bad. Kirito is not a well developed character and honestly feels like a weird self insert, the action choreography is really bland and characters feel like they have no weight to them, there is no tension after a while and to top it all off the pacing issues really takes me out of the experience making me unable to understand or feel for most of the main cast. Now, I do think the animation is solid even if the character designs are really generic and the first few episodes were pretty damn good! I think that this is an anime with a lot of potential that just lost its way. The whole appeal of the digital world becoming a prison, a dream becoming a nightmare, is what really sold me on the idea. However, since it soon becomes clear that nobody will ever die again, it kind of loses its uniqueness. I think the anime would just be better off focusing on SAO for the entire first season instead of going to Fairy land later on. The journey of Kirito to go from a skilled solo player to an op badass never quite made sense to me because it's completely glanced over. We are unable to see how the people adapt to the world of SAO because the show never really shows us until Kirito meets Asuna again. Also, if you love SAO I have nothing against you! You can disagree with me and that's fine, but what I'm saying here is only my opinions. I want to understand the fanbase really.
  18. I think we are definitely in the right track. We just need more opinions here. Anime is without a doubt a movement inside of the eastern popculture. So that would be a key difference between western animation and eastern animation as a whole. Crazy to think that our world is so culturally divided on that sense, but when it comes to pop culture I'm not surprised. I live in Brazil and here our popculture is not as different than the rest of America. Of course there is our own culture in the country, but it's way less divisible than the difference between eastern and western per say.
  19. So, in the end anime is an art movement that represents the eastern culture, in particular the Japanese culture. I've never thought of it this way. So it's all into the execution and if the message/themes it contains are approached in an eastern way. That's why My Hero Academia is a play on the western super hero stories but with a inherently eastern spin on it. It's a social critique of Japan's culture regarding work, professions, school and most important the drive to succeed and to follow your dreams that gives enough motivation to our characters so they can face adversity. The way the show traces parallels with the Japanese reality is part of what it defines it an anime. However, it's also like you said, it's all portrayed with the lens of the eastern culture, which drastically changes how some characters are viewed by others and how their behavior and relationships play out. Daaaaaaang, this is interesting!
  20. It's alright, fellow. Thank ya for the warm welcoming btw! Hope we can get along.
  21. Dang, this answer is actually really well thought out! I shouldn't expect less coming from this community as it seems.
  22. I've been quite curious recently about this. Anime is an industry that was born out of japanese culture. However, it's not only something that affects or is limited to Japan. I also don't think it's limited to a certain drawing style either. It's animation with an emphasis in story, characters, heavy topics and deep themes that just grab the viewers' attention and generated a large community all around the world. Would you consider cartoons like Avatar anime as well? What about Korean anime? What about different anime drawing styles?
  23. So like, this is the first time I ever entered this site and I've also never heard of it before. I'm trying to create more anime based content and I thought it would be a good idea to just be a part of the community more. Ever since My Hero Academia my love for anime has been rekindled! Now I feel like watching pretty much everything and analyzing it. I'm glad to be a part of this community and I hope there isn't much toxicity here! Anyway, hello everybody and thanks for having me.
