  1. Eva Ushiromiya (from Umineko) is my waifu.... ...but Kaiji is my #1 husbando! That said, I've grown very fond of this little cutie lately (Hercule from Tantei Opera Milky Holmes): Sooo, I guess I can't commit to a single relationship. But if I had to, I'd go with my husbando.
  2. In general I watch anime just to have fun and be entertained. It's really not much more than a hobby that doesn't require any effort or concentration on my part, it let's me relax and just turn off my brain for a bit. That said, anime in particular feels very unique when compared to other media I feel like. I am a big fan of animation, but western animation mostly excels when it comes to kid's cartoons or movies, or adult humor stuff, whereas Japanese anime tackles many different topics that can be a lot more interesting. It's incredibly diverse! And let's face it - the Japanese are weird as fuck, and that also shows in anime. And I love weird! All in all I still regularly watch anime as often as I do, because there are still masterpieces out there for me to discover. After FMA:B it took me a while before discovering my next favorites in Madoka Magica, Cowboy Bebop and Monster. After those it took me plenty more anime series to stumble upon Higurashi which I now love. I then watched many more series and eventually got hooked on Kaiji. Again and again I thought to myself "I've seen all the stuff I love already, there aren't any other 9/10's or 10/10's left for me", but surprise! There still are masterpieces out there. And that's what makes me keep watching, because all of my favorites had an impact on me and are still part of me today.
  3. Shinji always resonated with me a lot, so I'd go with him. NGE always hit very close to home with its topics (except for the giant robots and monsters and stuff). [mal type=character id=89] As for looks, this guy from One Outs is kinda close (though he's more handsome than the real me): [mal type=character id=18597]
  4. Now that's an interesting question I haven't really thought about... if I could insert myself into the story as a character, then stuff like the Suzumiya Haruhi series or Saiki Kusuo would be fun. Basically "normal" school life, except really fun and I'd have cool and unique friends! The easy answer would be the Ghost in the Shell franchise, since it's pretty much just a bit into the future, so I'd get some cool technology without much changes for me. You know what, scrap all of that. Put me in Prison School! For, uuhhhh, reasons. As a child I always thought it would be cool to live in a world with Pokémon... and I think it would still be cool. I think this is the most solid answer that would make most people happy. I also totally learned the wrong lesson from Kaiji, because the series made death gambles look really exciting and thrilling. I thought if I had to bite the dust, one badass way to go would be to put my life on the line, gambling for insane amounts of cash, only relying on my wits and luck. I guess I am pretty stupid for wanting to be put in a situation like that.
  5. I agree, though at the same time it made it hard for a while to really enjoy anything else! Though I am blaming others for giving me some awful recommendations for a beginner. I managed to convince my mom to watch FMA:B with me and she loved it too, we have watched a couple anime together since. Sadly I couldn't convince my older sister, and I couldn't even convince my little niece to check out some age appropriate anime... Looks like you're a lot better at shilling anime to others.
  6. You are looking for something very specific and I don't have an answer that really fits perfectly... but Full Metal Panic! has some awesome sci-fi action (though it is mecha). Cowboy Bebop has lots of action, too, though that's more about space fights and martial arts. Not much in terms of cool weapons and such. If you want an epic slaughterfest of awesome weaponry and cool abilities, then Akame ga Kill could also be interesting to you. Though it's not sci-fi at all.
  7. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was the first one I watched and it's still one of my favorites! I was recommended various other anime series but wasn't impressed at all... except by Kill la Kill, which was the second anime I enjoyed and finished. I watched a few episodes of Pokémon, DoReMi and some other stuff as a kid... but not much. I think I would have loved Mahou Shoujo series but was told I couldn't watch them because they were for girls.
  8. Thanks, I usually have a look at people's lists to check out their favorites! I also loved Akagi. I can recommend picking up the Kaiji manga from where the anime left off. I read the chapters while listening to the Kaiji OST and it was pretty much just as epic as watching the anime! And if you've seen Akagi, you know enough about Mahjong to enjoy the third Kaiji installment (which is about a simplified Mahjong variant). Since your occupation is "making friends", I am sure that won't be a problem. I looked up Glitter Force, it's an anime of the Pretty Cure franchise. I checked out one of those once and liked it a lot, but wasn't in the mood to continue... but it definitely seemed fun! I like Mahou Shoujo series, it's just that they are such a big time investment and can be a bit formulaic. That said, I just started watching Sailor Moon.
  9. Hi! My name is Lee, I am 24 years old and from Germany. My first anime was FMA:B which I still absolutely love, but besides Kill la Kill (which I also still like a lot), I couldn't really get into any other anime shows. That was until almost 2 years ago, when I rediscovered my love for anime with Cowboy Bebop, Madoka Magica and Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've been watching anime and reading manga regularly ever since. I'd love to talk more about anime and manga, but don't know any people who enjoy them in real life. The MAL Forums and /r/anime aren't really great places to have discussions (imho), so I hope this forum will be different! My favorites which I'd consider masterpieces are: Madoka Magica, Cowboy Bebop, Monster and Ping Pong The Animation. As for manga, I really loved Onanie Master Kurosawa and I'm a big fan of the Kaiji series (though I will probably take a break after the One Poker-hen ends). If we're talking Visual Novels, I only read one so far and it is now one of my absolute favorite pieces of media: Umineko When They Cry. I also like D&D and Star Trek, which are probably my biggest passions right now. If you wanna chat about any of those (or something else completely), or have any questions you wanna ask, feel free to do so! I am currently watching a lot from this season, but I plan to dial it back a little bit after that. My PTW on MAL is rather big, even after I got rid of a lot of stuff... and I want to reduce the size of my Dropped-list too, by giving stuff a second chance.
