Now of course wouldn't it be nice if your laptop excelled in all of these features? However that's very rarely the case.

I think weight and aesthetics comes to mind for me. I feel lugging around a heavy or bulky laptop can quickly become tedious. My computing tasks aren't overly demanding when on the go - I have my desktop for that.

On that basis I find the MacBook Pro 13" with Retina screen (my work device) and my Surface Pro 3 pleasant to use. But they're both relatively poor gaming devices for sure.

What about you?

For me, it would probably be cost. While I have a laptop right now that has all those features except for battery life (already planning on getting a new battery) and touch screen, if the laptop that I got wasn't near the price range, I wouldn't even consider it. I have a Thinkpad x220 which has a core i5, 120GB SSD, 8GB RAM, IPS screen, and other stuff. Its extremely light as well. I highly recommend the Thinkpad x series as all of them are really high quality computers. Also, for anyone considering getting one, I would suggest you find a slightly used one on ebay instead of buying a new one, so then you can save over half of the original price. Just make sure that you find one that says it comes with a Windows license.

An interesting line of laptops I noticed are the Panasonic Toughbooks.

It looks really rugged and heavy:

...the CF-31 is made of tougher stuff, and is designed to meet specifications for ingress protection (IP-65) and durability (MIL-STD-810G). That means, among other things, it can withstand operating temperatures from -20 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 160 degrees when turned off), and altitudes of up to 15,000 feet. It can survive 31 minutes of 70-mph wind and 5.8 inches per hour of rain blown at it, and 26 drops from 72 inches while turned off (36 inches while turned on and open). It can also withstand up to 310 pounds of pressure on its lid. - See more at: http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/panasonic-toughbook-cf-31#sthash.ujW1A5xD.dpuf

But it'll definitely cost you. Probably great for off-site, remote areas and harsh environments.

The toughbooks are very popular in the military. When I was in it was a pretty big choice for us because it wouldn't break easily in harsh conditions. However for me personally it's all about processor speed. I'm a developer and I like to have my software programs with me (IE, IDE's, etc) So I have to have a decent processor with me.

Two of the majors are definitely aesthetics and battery life. Mainly so I can work on it outside my home without having to worry of how it looks or it running out of battery.

Out of curiosity what laptop are you currently using and does it satisfy that requirement? :)

Have you come across any laptops that appeal to you Nuh?

I actually don't use a laptop right now haha xD I have a desktop for what I do at the moment simply because I work from home.

However I was using a four year old HP Pavillion with Windows 10 Tech preview on it.

It seemed to work out just find for me.

Ah so you must have a decent home office environment then. ;) If you don't mind me asking, what kind of job/duties is it?

I'd love to work from home, but with the amount of anime merchandise I have here it would be terribly distracting for me. >_<

Sorry I just saw this Dx

Right now, I have a macbook pro and it works marvelously! It fast, sleek, and can go a long time without needing to be charged depending on the activity, though the only downside to this are these popups that come up and won't go away.

I usually have to shut down the whole browser to get rid of them.

Battery wins out as most important feature for me. If I want power then I'm going with desktop, period. With a laptop, what I care about is it lasting long enough for me to get work done when I'm not close to a charger.
