It's a result of the implementation of the UK's Online Safety Act (2023). Imgur have decided not to comply with the requirements of the Act. Which is a law designed to make the internet safer for children and adults by placing new duties on social media companies, search engines, and other online services. Key provisions include requiring these companies to protect users from illegal content, remove illegal activity, and prevent children from accessing harmful material like pornography, self-harm content, and cyberbullying. So UK users can no longer use Imgur to upload pictures and any pictures uploaded to webforums etc by users outside the UK using Imgur cannot be seen by UK users and such uploads will be replaced by a graphic saying "Content not available in your region". It's aim being to restrict childrens access to adult or harmful age-inappropriate content and generally give people more control over the types of content they see. The act also seeks to make social media services, search services etc more responsible for their users’ safety on their platforms by implementing various system to ensure this. Imgur is one of those companies that have decided that rather than do this they'll just block acces to their site to UK users. So it's Imgur blocking the UK not the UK government blocking Imgur.
