As I understand things, Madhouse and Gkids are animation studios that produce anime while ADV and Crunchyroll are distributors who license anime and release it outside Japan subtitled and dubbed into English (and some other languages). In my opinion (for what it's worth), I think Kyoto Animation and Studio Ghibli produce the best anime.
