What Put You Off An Anime?

What usually does this for me is the anime being boring and not picking up/getting exciting even after multiple episodes in. This is what happened when I tried to watch Classroom of the Elite. I was in 6 episodes and literally nothing was happening so I just dropped it. Another thing that will influence me to abandon an anime is, well, if I don’t enjoy it in general. This is what happened when I tried to watch Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I do think that all anime deserve a chance so my personal policy is to give a series at least 5 episodes.

I'll give pretty much anything the 3-ep test.  My issue is that I like realistic science fiction.  That's fiction with actual science as an integral part of the plot or theme.  That's hard, and nobody really makes the effort to get it right anymore.  As a result I occasionally get to the point where I've seen one too many isekai - or whatever the popular thing is this cycle - and I stop watching and drift away.  Especially when they reboot a particular storyline from a show I was only marginally interested in the first time I saw it.  So far I've always come back but sometimes it takes me a year or two.

I would say not advancing the plot, not having any character development, and just reusing the same tropes & jokes over and over again.

A story must have a conflict that moves the story forward, unless of course you are watching a slice of life I suppose.
