Greatest Achievement/Accomplishment?

What's the greatest thing you have achieved in your life?

Being at the young age of 18 years old, my childhood is now gone technically although I still live with my parents.

That doesn't come without responsibilities though.

Right after high school of last year in May, just two weeks after graduating and into my summer I was sent off to Fort. Jackson, South Carolina to be trained into a United States soldier in the U.S. Army. After a miserable hot 10 weeks and emotionally, physically, and mentally daunting event and meeting requirements, it has forever changed me. Right after bootcamp my family drove me to Fort LeonardWood in Missouri to complete the last of my training to actually put me to good use for my job in the Army. And yes I did this all on my own decision, my parents or grandparents weren't in the military but me and my sister are now. My MOS is 88M Motor Transport Operator (Spearhead of Logistics) Here's a direct quote from the website.

OVERVIEW

Motor transport operators are primarily responsible for supervising or operating wheel vehicles to transport personnel and cargo. They are the backbone of the Army’s support and sustainment structure, providing advanced mobility on and off the battlefield.

JOB DUTIES

  • Operate all wheel vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways

  • Manage load, unload, and safety of personnel being transported

  • Oversee and check proper loading and unloading of cargo on vehicles and trailers

  • Employ convoy defense techniques

  • Identify, correct or report all vehicle deficiencies

  • Prepare vehicle for movement/shipment by air, rail or vessel

Fun stuff right? Not so much as my job is #1 in deaths for soldiers because of IEDs. This is the equipment I work with.

Now, I am not active duty but I am Reserves but with this time period, us and the National Guard have been called into deployment a lot more as we are sizing down active duty soldiers. As far as I'm aware I won't be called into deployment anytime soon, as we know several months ahead of time; And schedule says for this year we aren't.

And that concludes my greatest accomplishment that I'll definitely ever have. So early in my life, too. Next objective is college and full-time, good paying job.

Nice. Thanks for fighting for us, dude. I never went to college after high school and I've yet to have any huge achievements like that. I was going to join the National Guard...but decided against it because of family reasons.

Good job with all that stuff Akame-san. We're the same age but you're far ahead in terms of achievements

I HAVE ACHIEVED NOTHING

I'm so proud of myself ;-; *cries*

That's okay bunny-san, you'll get there one day, some people just like to start early. I just have this problem where if I am not doing anything useful for my family or society, I feel like a waste of time and space. Idk it's hard to explain. Like I feel like I'm always being judged no matter what and I always strive to do better. Even while I'm in the Army now I still feel like I could do better. Is that weird? Maybe that's why I look up to Akame so much.

@Akame, your gig at Fort Jackson sounds like it was very physically and mentally gruelling. You have my admiration for going through it without dropping out. Good stuff!

What's the greatest thing you have achieved in your life?

Although nowhere near as physically tolling, my greatest achievement would have to be doing over two years of volunteer work with the Ambulance service here, mainly at First Aid Events and bushfire callouts.

It was an absoloute pleasure helping the community during events such as the AFL (our biggest sport here), community markets, sporting events (motorplex) and more. Working with other paramedics and liaising with other agencies including the Police and DFES (Department of Fire and Emergency Services) was also interesting.

We of course had to learn clinical skills to do slightly more advanced First Aid skills including resuscitation, medication and using the defibrillator.

Good job Akame

I have done a lot in a wide variety of areas but I wouldn't say I have achieved

let alone have great achievements in life , but every thing has added another hue of colour to where I may end up

and that in its self is my achievement

I'm 25 and I still have no clue what I'm doing with my life. I suppose my biggest achievement so far is completing post-secondary education (aircraft maintenance). But that's rendered moot because I don't work in the field, nor do I have any desire to.

On a much more personal level, I successfully moved across the country without having a complete mental breakdown. Having the courage to up and go, the way I did, could be considered a big accomplishment for me.
