Complaints on Real life movies from anime

In my honest opinion, it never works out usually when animation is transfered to movies, although this could work vice versa too. But i also heard some controversy on the "Ghost in the Shell" movie, and i agree with this video that the complaints are wrong for the wrong reason.

But atleast in my honest opinion if someone is from that nationality with the language then it would realistically be realistic to have that person of that race, but i agree that capturing someone's character is far more important. And its ironic that they complain about it that way, when considering "Attack on Titan" (which i havent watched) have German names on characters and weapons, so its assumed to be in Germany, and yet the live action movie has a cast of Japanese actors. So if one would complain about realism then one should do it the same way back, i even heard they plan on doing the same thing with "Fullmetal Alchemist" (Live action movie) even though the main character is obviously from Europe (Atleast fictional Europe) considering the name influences of places and characters. But thats just my opinion.

I am curious to hear your views?

Japanese films in general just aren't great these days. When was the last memorable Japanese film you've seen recently? I have so many memorable Hong Kong and Chinese films that I can remember but very very few Japanese ones. So to me it's no surprise anime > Japanese live adaptations just aren't memorable for me at all.

The Attack on Titan live action film was quite a let-down, poor pacing, over the top acting and sloppy animation for the titans.

There was a great article I remember seeing on the Japan Times that had some really good points on the nature of the Japanese film industry. I'll have to dig around for it and link it here.

I have only seen "Yojimbo 1961" which is like the Japanese answer to Clint Eastwood, only with a samurai. Its pretty good. But not that i care so much for Japanese films in general, i do consider that one a watch.

Same here, but it sounds decent enough. Is it on DVD or am I gonna have to download it?

I don't agree with Razorfist (I do on his Force Awakens rant, but that's another topic), to me, the Major looked fair skinned, anime in general seems to have fair skinned characters, plus this is a movie made in America, of course they're going to use an American cast, and perhaps they might use the old American translations, renaming Niihama to *looks at Wikipedia article, I stand corrected, apparently the other name for Niihama is also used in the Japanese version* New Port City!

I will admit that if they set it in Japan (using Niihama), with an American cast, it will look weird, in my opinion! I actually thought that New Port City was something that had been created in the old American manga translation, when US companies liked the idea of anime and manga, but thought that "Japan" was a "naughty" word, so they had to remove anything associating to it ;)!

I'm not sure if Scarlet Johanson's got the voice, but I thought she looked the part in the preview image! That said, it's been a while since I've heard the dub, or watched Ghost in the Shell, full stop, so I wouldn't be able to compare at the moment!

Just following up on my previous comment, I found the article (actually Japan Today not Japan Times), it's an interesting read. The reasons given for the decline of quality were due to production committees, low pay and no accountability:

Stumbled across this yesterday:

59e21726bd08c_Kiki27s_Delivery_Service_2014_poster.jpg.bac1d66c5b52b9f51d17cace60b3666d.jpg

Live Action adaptation of Kiki's Delivery Service, it came out in 2014!

Apparently it did not fare well with the critics, with Film Business Asia giving it 4/10, and Variety giving it a negative review; bland, charmless, undramatic, Fuka Koshiba too mature and perky for waifish 13 year old Kiki, 20th century CGI!

I didn't find anything wrong with it, well, I'll agree about the computer generated effects, but I only found it a problem on Jiji and the Hippo club, Maruko!

There are quite a number of similarities between it and the Ghibli movie (especially if some of the lines in the movie were not just creative translating), although the two differ in other areas!

Looking at nausicaa.net it appears that the Ghibli movie differs somewhat from the original book, with the loss of Kiki's powers, including inability to talk to Jiji (although in the dub only, this returns), and the blimp!

Similar to the Ghibli movie, the live action movie does also feature Kiki losing her powers, but not her ability to speak to Jiji, it also features the delivery of a Hippo, and hints that Kiki will/has to return home at the end of the year, both of which, feature in the book(s)!

Oh, the Attack on Titan live action movie was weird and only for a few reasons. I really didn't think that the musical cues were good at all. They were so awkward! And the music just wasn't dramatic enough for me. In the actual anime the music was much more fitting. I don't remember if animation was that bad, but if it was I would have remembered haha.

even some of my favourite animes live adaptations were poorly translated from anime to reality such as the death note live action, overall the characters looked the part but it didnt have the intense feel the original series had and maybe it comes down to watching it again as it held the same plot line essentially
