CloverTea123
I actually went camping for this first time this past weekend as a school trip, and it was pretty ok. It wasnt legit camping, because we stayed in this tiny retro cabin that had a stove ect, but we did go hiking, and im never doing that again. I legit thought i was gonna die. But camping on the other hand, pretty nice. 10/10 would do again, as long as there is a toilet 1

I'd actually love to stay at one for a few days. we did go hiking, and im never doing that again. I legit thought i was gonna die. Sounds like it might have been a fairly hardcore hike? But camping on the other hand, pretty nice. 10/10 would do again, as long as there is a toilet This is a condition that I can definitely agree with.
Kohloo
I once stayed at a provincial campground that has fully functioning washrooms and shower stalls. However, there is only running water in there, no electricity. So you had to bring a flashlight at night Edit: I even showered by flashlight one night because I spilled something all over myself lol Edited June 7, 2017 by Guest
Imogen
I used to camp a lot. I like it personally. But I'm married and my husband is not as much of an outdoorsy type as I am. (we are both gamers though! We met at Gamestop and continued to learn more about each other via D&D sessions) We do like to hike though. It's part of the reason we moved to Colorado. It's nice to escape out into the mountains when the summers get too hot plus the views are usually very awesome no matter where you go. I've chalked it up to the reason everyone here is terrible at driving - everyone is too distracted by the views and mountains to pay much attention to the road lol 2

That sounds like my impression of the Northwest. I think that I'll borrow this saying from you if you don't mind. And yes, I have heard that Colorado has beautiful stuff. Have you ever taken pictures while hiking, or do you focus on the experience? 1

And yes, I have heard that Colorado has beautiful stuff. Have you ever taken pictures while hiking, or do you focus on the experience? I'm more for the experience but I do occasionally take photos. Honestly IMO when I go for a hike I'm doing it in part to escape electronics and the tangled web of social circles (other than husband of course! And I hope to have a house some day and a dog that can come with us. I don't trust my cats on a hike although I would love if they would behave) If it's my first time visiting a trail I'm more likely to take pictures. But I will always take pictures if I start with someone who can't explore as far as I can. 1
Cy~
I'm doing it in part to escape electronics and the tangled web of social circles Same here, tbh, actually. One of the benefits of a good hike is the ability to just forget everything except for myself, my spouse and the world around us. The only downside to hiking up here is that we have to wake up at 5 am to get to a trail before it is filled with people. Unfortunately, Seattle is getting so ridiculously large that it is causing the trails to get overcrowded by people carrying around 2,000 dollars worth of hiking gear from Rei (and looking weirdly at you if you don't have the same). I find them annoying, so we get up and are usually on our way back down by the time they actually show up and start. 1
zoop
I don't trust my cats on a hike although I would love if they would behave True story, when I was a kid my parents and I took our cat on a hiking trip since we were going to be gone for several days, and we didn't have anyone to come over and feed her. She thanked us by urinating in my mother's lap on the trip out, and was fairly miserable and unamused throughout. 1 1

I'm a transplant to Colorado so I don't think I'm allowed to complain about how busy things are around here. I'm sure in Washington it's much worse. I ran away from Chicago so it's all "light traffic" to me but also having a foot in both the rural and urban US experience I can see how it would be tough with all the extra people. We'll see how things go though. Maybe in a few years you can go to the trails at a more normal time and be able to experience the tranquility too. If it gets worse you can always visit Colorado We have some years yet before we get too too croweded I think.

I think that I'll take that advice, tbh! @zoop and I are both recent transplants to Washington. As soon as things settle down for us financially (uprooting two people at once is a bit insane), then we are hoping to do some "hike touring" in certain decent-ish places around the USA.

Hit me up, I'd be happy to share with you. I'd like to go out your way some time so if you could return the favor that would be awesome! (going to bed, ya'll have a good time. Thanks for being so nice around here!)

We'd definitely be happy to share any hot spots we come across with you! I think right now our favorite place would just be Mount Rainier, in general - it has a ton of different trails and such, though we've only started to scratch the surface. (going to bed, ya'll have a good time. Thanks for being so nice around here!) Good belated night!
Kirby_Red
Be make sure to get someone with good stamina because it would be tough for waiting them. I and my friends went to camping last month and i need to wait him for almost the entire time. He is a smoker, no offense but he got some problems on it. 1

Smoking really does destroy people. My grandmother smoked for just 5 years and it was enough to destroy her lungs completely over the course of her life. Kinda sad, really.
Kohloo
Supposed to be doing an overnight camping trip with my bf today, but we're off to an extremely late start considering we stayed up so late partying last night! At this rate, we might end up pushing it back another day lmao 1

He's used to off the grid camping with no facilities. The only "camping" I've ever done is at campsites with facilities and serviced sites (w/electricity), and I haven't even done that since I was a kid. So his camping experience is on a whole other level than mine! What I really love though is the fact he wants me to go camping with him, his style. But he understands I'm inexperienced, so he's being a real gentleman and easing me into it. He wants to go somewhere that at least has a washroom nearby (if it's an outhouse though, I'll use the bush anyway, so I told him not to worry much about a washroom lmao). We're just gonna camp for the one night this time too, and then we might go somewhere and get a hotel for a night just for something different to do. I've always wanted to get more into the outdoorsy stuff, camping in particular. But I've never really had the chance too. No one in my family does it and all my previous boyfriends have been pansy-ass mamma's boys. My current boyfriend is like the total opposite lmao 1 1

Cy~
Just returned from hiking wildly. I mean, wildly. Hiking so fucking wildly that my whole body hurts. My arms hurt. My legs hurt. My back hurts. My butt hurts. My shoulders hurt. You know what. I hurt. The entirety of my being - the legal and philosophical entity known as I - hurts like fucking hell. It was a 2 mile hike, 4 mile roundtrip, with an elevation gain of 1,160 feet. "Yes, but you did something longer than that just two weeks ago with more elevation gain!?" You know what, you're right. Yeah, I remember that. I also remember that we didn't basically walk far too quickly up a steep rocky trail and then go down so fast that only runners kept up with us. @zoop spent the upwards trek walking like a lunatic, only breaking twice to catch her breath. We took about a ten minute break and then realized that there were about a thousand people behind up, heading up the trail (literally, this hike is right by Seattle, everyone was there). I was fine during the break. Then, we went down. Way down. And, Zoop decided to take it like a fucking rabbit, jumping all over the trail, overtaking people and passing them up sloppily and basically leaving me behind as I slid/scrambled to catch up to my suicidal life partner. Help me understand? I am sore... Oh god, I am so sore... 1

Nectar
@zoop spent the upwards trek walking like a lunatic, only breaking twice to catch her breath. How about you get her to carry you next time Feel the burn zoop I slid/scrambled to catch up to my suicidal life partner. Sledge? Especially if there's still snow I know what I'm saying is ridiculous but I want it to be possible That was a good hike! I'm feeling ready for tomorrow's! Are you really going tomorrow too? :3 Because if you are, I'm already excited for more of your typically polar opposite status updates with your opinion on the hike 1
Cy~
How about you get her to carry you next time Hahaha, I'm stronger than Zoop , but she has more experience than me and is naturally good at finding footing on a trail. I'm an urban girl, she's not, hahaha. Are you really going tomorrow too? :3 Training run! I've been there recently. I'll fucking clean up! (Nah, I'll probably still be sore, lol. :'() 1

Cy~
Update time! I'm on vacation for a week, and it's time to hike the hell out of things. We'll start tomorrow with an easy (but pleasant) training hike. Do the same thing the day after, then wait a couple of days and do something crazy, then wait another couple of days and go to one of the most beautiful hikes in this region. FINGERS CROSSED. I'm desperately hoping that the weather will hold up well. It's been up and down, rainy and sunny. I just want sun, but ummm... Not too much?
Nectar
FINGERS CROSSED God I hope so. For your sake, and mine. Your hiking stories are brilliantly entertaining. Plus... you might wanna grab that leash... just in case. 1
