cybershocker455
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BrokenBird Basically, a Broken Bird is a character (usually female) that acts cynical or stoic because of a tragic backstory. My favorites are Erza and Mirajene from Fairy Tail.
Cy~
Okay, so like, I'm going to go hardcore literalist on this and say that my favorite "broken bird" is Reki from Haibane Renmei. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She has wings and she's literally a broken bird, but that's not actually why I picked her. I pick her because, despite her horrific background, she manages to struggle through it and walk the fine line between harsh cynicism and a desire to help her friends and others. She isn't just a one-note "broken bird". Instead, she has complexity and depth. There's a reason that she broke, and she recognizes this about herself and does her best to try to overcome. I kinda love this character, tbh.
Orius
Miki Sayaka. Just Sayaka. The Harvey Dent of anime. :'( I've written many times before why I liked her, but as a broken bird, she's especially sympathetic because of her initial intention to do good. A lot of people misunderstood that she only did it for solely Kyosuke, when that's only part of the reason she did it, and even then, I never felt like she went into despair just because Kyosuke dumped her ass. She only broke down when she saw how f-ed up the world was in spite of her good intentions (the two misogynist objectifying a girl in the train). As if sacrificing your identity as a living, breathing person wasn't terrible enough. Thank god for her redemption in Rebellion.
existentiallylostdumbell
I don't know if I would classify her as a broken bird, but I remember I fancied Arcueid from Shingetsutan Tsukihime quite a bit.
RepentantSky
Naruko Anjou comes to mind. She acts like she's not bothered by anything around people for a good amount of Anohana. But you know, any character from that anime is good bet for any category they fit into.
