Asian Music Noob

So..I am a total noob when it comes to Asian music. I love some of the soundtracks to anime I have watched but other than that my exposure to Asian music is limited lol I would love to know more though so please enlighten me! Like I have no idea what a vocaloid is lol and I would definitely like to know.

My sisterinlaw is into K-Pop big time but I don't want to hop on the bandwagon just because I know she likes it.

I think I am most interested in Japenese music and would just really like to know more and get some recommendations for all of you!

A vocaloid is basically an artist that is 100 percent fabricated, even the voice isn't an actual human, but they have concerts where the vocaloid shows via holograms and sings and dances and all that. This react video from FBE should give you a good idea of what they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHhluDhVtjU

Now for suggestions, there are a lot I can give you, so I'm gonna post a few from different genre's because I don't know which you are most into.

Here's some metal/hard rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFzij7Zkcl8

Flow will give you an idea of what Male Pop/Rock sounds like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDV8bgT7Los

If you want to give KPOP a go, my bet is on these two

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r5ULxo4WD0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DwzBICPhdM

You don't see a lot of people talking about it but Visual Kei is a lot of fun, but it can get pretty dark so here something more in the middle

There's also Nightcore which is an interesting beast where I'm concerned, but this is probably my favorite Nightcore song right now and it'll give you an idea of what it's like

K Hip-hop is also a thing, but I don't know if profanity bothers you so here's something a little more tame

Hope all that helps. If you have any questions let me know.

Awesome! I loved the reaction video lol and vocaloid definitely looks pretty cool and different.

I like almost any genre of music so you gave me a great selection, thanks! And I don't mind profanity especially in rap/hip-hop as I'm a big fan of Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj lol

Of the ones you shared, totally enjoyed the abingdon boys school song but I am very picky when it comes to hard rock/metal so I'm not sure how into the genre I will get. Here and the two KPop ones weren't really my thing but I know I have heard some of the songs my sisterinlaw has listened to and thought they were good so I might find something I like there. I did like the K hip-hop and I definitely do love rap and hip hop so anymore suggestions there would be awesome.

My absolute favorite though was the Nightcore version of Despacito! It was so good and I love that song, I grew up in a predominately hispanic area and have always had a place in my heart for a good mexican song. I would love to much more about Nightcore and any other suggestions you have!

kpop is pretty good, i'm a huge fan but i do regret it (fandoms are horrible, music can be mainstream, it's way too popular and koreaboos are a thing (just as bad as weeaboos)). so i don't exactly advise joining, but if you do it's a whole new world and there are good songs and amazing artists and personalities. you did mention liking k-hip hop, some artists are jay park, dok2, zico, epik high, dynamic duo and i think you'd enjoy krnb artsits like dean, crush and zion t

vocaloid is your biggest bet when it comes to jpop, it's crazy popular and does have a lot of catchy songs. it's kind of hard to get into since it's so different and unique but it's great.

i don't listen to a lot of jpop but when i do my personal favourite artist is yuzu, they're a duo who sing a lot of the hunter x hunter soundtrack.

cpop is also pretty good.

sorry i'm not the type to give recommendations for songs (i don't know too much jpop anyway)

I totally get what your saying about KPop, my sisterinlaw is obsessed. She has a binder of cards with pictures of artists, it reminds me of someones pokemon card collection a little bit lol, but she seems to be happily obsessed. I just didn't want to look like Im copying her but I do love music and am always open to listening to new things even if they arent in English lol

I definitely want to look more into JPop and Vocaloid and also hip-hop. Im hoping when I go to Sakura Con next year that I can get some more music exposure too.

There was a big point in my life where I was sooo obsessed with K-Pop and that I was really fangirling and posted a lot of posters on my room that my Mum had to sigh everytiime she sees this boy groups on my wall xD Gradually I've moved on from K-Pop and focused more on anime :D I loved singing anime OSTs, which some of you may have noticed me posting vocaroo recordings on my profile post. :D But Asian music in general is too broad. I'm an asian myself and I don't think I am that fond of asian music. :P

I can recommend you look at the special feature at our forums where some of our members posted Vocaloid PVs :D I Hope this was helpful xD

I'll have to look at the vocaloid PVs, thanks. And when I said Asian music it was just so I could get across that I am open to anything from any asian country. I didn't want to miss out on something amazing just because I said I only want to know about different kinds of Japanese based music although that is the main thing I am looking for.

Beenzino is always a good bet for some K Hip-hop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNc6kDLUiV4

G2 is also a really good one. Way underrated though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFsp-Pe5YFs

Luizy and Flowsik are also great http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdmFyyvJviw

As for Nightcore, you can pretty much look up any song you want to type in nightcore at the end and find something, but I'll post some of my favorites

Hallelujah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS1AYNO6T5E

You Raise Me Up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQz4EMJfGi8
