It just started airing Thursday, but might want to check out Peach Boy Riverside (the title is a reference to the japanese folktake of Momotaro). The setting feels like it will be similar to Tensura. And the 1st ep makes me think the MC has an OP berserker mode she goes into.
A couple other shounen I enjoyed but you donāt hear much about are Buso Renkin and Ushio & Tora.

My initial thought was Mio from K-on!, but she has dark eyes. It may not be a specific character, hard to tell with those kind of pictures.

Todayās premieres:
Higurashi~When They Cry~SotsuĀ - They actually started us off with 2 episodes this week. As noted above, this is the series IĀ have the highest hopes forĀ & the premiere certainly didnāt disappoint. Since you need to already have seen the originalĀ series plusĀ Kai & Gou to understand whatās happening,Ā there is a considerable time investment involved. But if youāre into psychological horror, Iād still recommend (8/10)
Peach Boy RiversideĀ Ā - based on other viewers comments the events of the first ep areĀ actually a ways into the manga series, but I personally didnāt find it particularly confusing. Sally & Frau both made good impressions on me. The fan service moments were of the blatant/pointless variety but not what I find offensive. Hoping it keeps going in a good direction (7/10)
Scarlet Nexus -Ā genericĀ set up & cheezy dialogue. And the CGI monsters just look ridiculous. That kind of surreal imagery might have worked in Madoka Magica (or Pink Floyd videos)Ā Ā but not here. One & done (5/10)

How recently did you see it? Sounds kinda like a scene from an early episode of Nagatoro, except the guy wasnāt an actual idol. He tried impressing her by saying he was in a band (or a dj?), but after listening to his demo she disses him. His buddy tries to hit on her too, but gets rejected. After they leave her friend complains about her always scaring guys off.

This is my primary reason especially since manyĀ titles I enjoyed arenāt considered overly popular. Also a way to financially support the industry & hopefully encourage additional seasons. Unfortunately there are some titles I would love to own but the streaming service that owns the license wonāt release one as way to control access & hopefully keep you as a subscriber.

ĀItās hard to believe the new roster of shows begins tomorrow. While Iām aware that most active users on thisĀ forumĀ donāt watch a lot of series as they air, I thought I would still create a topic where people can share their early thoughts on series or the season as a whole.
Even for me, thereās not much Iām hyped for this time, especially compared to the first half of this year, but ā¦
Probably the one Iām anticipating the most isĀ Higurashi~When They Cry~Satsu. Ā NOTE:Ā YOU DO NEED TO HAVE WATCHED BOTH SEASONS OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES & GOU FIRST.Ā Iād initially written off Gou as an inferior remake/alternate version, but by the end it had established Ā itself as a direct sequel that was going in a very intriguing direction, so Iām really curious to see how it ends. Icing on the cake is that the trailers indicate that best girl Rena will finally get more screentineĀ even though as a pawn (canāt say of who because spoilers).
Some other sequels/continuations Iāll be watching:Ā Iruma-kun, MHA, Reincarnated as a Slime & Next Life as a Villainess.Ā Iām still undecided on Dragon Maid (largely due to the new dragonās ādesignāĀ
Ā ),Ā To Your Eternity,Ā Tokyo Revengers & Blue Reflection Ray.
Some new series Iām curious about:Ā Sonny Boy, The Duke of Death and his Maid, The Detective is Already DeadĀ & Peach Boy Riverside.
Anyway, hopefully I wonāt be the only one with thoughts to contribute

Binged 5 episodes of Godzilla Singular point, but shelved it. If I ever do give it another look, will probably go with the dub because itās almost impossible to keep up reading the subtitles. Wasnāt really feeling it anyway (not sure how much of it was a genuine attempt to incorporate quantum physics & cryptid zoology vs just trying to be quirky/weird). To quote Milhouse, āIām not a nerd, nerds are smartāĀ
Finished Odd Taxi. They managed to tie together the various narrativesĀ pretty effectively in the final episode. Odokawaās backstory was even more tragic than I thought it would be. That final sequence thoughĀ

That was an absolutely wonderful final episode, so much so that it dispelled a lot of the negative feelings I hadĀ over the pacing of this final season (even without having read the manga it still felt like events had been jumbled around). And after so much emotional turmoil it was nice to have things end largely with smiles.
ĀLoved the opening date between Kyo & Tohru with Uo & Hana playing chaperoneĀ
Ā Though in the end assuring him that he had their blessing. Though once again, the possibility of Hana having a relationship with his surrogate-father has to keep him on edge As much as Kyo/Tohru may be the alpha couple, Yuki & Machi are just adorkable. Iāve developed a fondness for Machiās character in particular as of late. Hiro & Kisa are really sweet together & I kinda wonder if they wonāt move into Shirureās old house when they get older. Iām glad it wasnāt just the youngāns getting romantic with Hatori & Mayu going on vacation together. Kagura & Momijiās jealousy over did leave something of Ā a bad taste in my mouth. At least in Kaguraās case it was somewhat understandable and she acknowledges Kyo & Tohru are meant to be. But in Momijiās case it just seemed childish Ā & evidence that he has some growing ip to do. Iām actually glad Isuzu still resentsĀ Akito as it holdsĀ her at least somewhat accountable. And if anyone deserves to hold a grudge itās her, considering Akito almost killed her TWICE. Iām afraid I still canāt feel good about Shigure & Akito together as I canāt see their relationship as a healthy thing. And I really wish Shigure had gotten punched in the face at least once. One criticism I may get some backlash over is I do wish they hadnāt made Tohru quite so perfect. While I fully expected the final outcome to be the same, I expected her to have at least one meltdown/outburst during the final confrontation Ā with Akito or finding out about Kyo & her mom. And having to struggle at least a little before forgiving. Considering how much mental & emotional pressure (not only her own, but the entire Sohma householdās) she was under it would have been absolutely understandable. And I canāt help but feel at least somewhat that the āYes, she really is THAT PUREā approach made her come across as something of a āMary Sueā. Still, itās just a minor complaint & the final scene assuring us that her andKyo do indeed grow old together happily in love is just what I needed at the endĀ
As exhausting as it was putting all this down, Iām still not convinced I wonāt have more to say once Iāve had time to reflect more on this wonderful series. But for now Iāll just say it was easily best of season, almost certainly AOTY, and one of the 3 most influential series for me in 40 years of watching anime. Certainly the most emotionally impactful.And sometime next year we get Tohruās parentās love story

And I actually did forget to mention something regarding Tohru
I also found it really touching how Yuki took his feelings regarding Tohru being a āmaternal figureā & expanded it to encompass all the Sohmas, because she was the one who provided them with the support & nurturing necessary to begin their ānew livesā, an emotional rebirth

Just finished the final episode of Nagatoro-san. IĀ have to say it wound up being far better & more adorable than the 1st episode would lead you to believe. Yes, there is a level of lewdness through out, but it even takes a much deserved jab at the critics who would write it off as toned downĀ fetish doujinshi trash with no redeeming value (most without even watching).Ā The biggest pleasant surprise of the year so farĀ & much more deserving of a 2nd season than Uzaki-chan (or Quints for that matter).
