Who remembers Funimation's dub of Keroro Gunso?
Hanna Fechik replied to Hanna Fechik's topic in Anime Discussion
I know this reply is late, but there is something I found interesting. While the anime is rated TV-Y7 in the U.S. and the uncut version being rated PG, Funimation's dub and some of the content turns it into something that feels strongly like it should be rated PG 13 or TV-14, because even then it's pretty edgy even for an anime that's supposed to be family friendly. I know the manga was more mature and adult in nature(have not actually read most of it), but it seemed odd to me. Then again, nothing is taboo in anime, so... -
I certainly was.

So my introduction is weird, because I didn't REALLY get into it until I was in my mid-late teens. So I was really young (3-4) and anime at that time was not as popular in the U.S. as it is now. I remember having a VHS tape of the 80s anime "Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics", at the time never knew that was Japanese. In fact, I didn't know what or where Japan is/was, but I kept hearing that from my grandmother(she traveled there in the early 90s). I also remember seeing "Spirited Away" in theaters, and of course kept seeing Pokemon everywhere I went. When I was also a tween, I discovered the animations of Naomi Iwata (I don't know how much of you probably know said creator or animations, but they're not in the typical anime style and are done in CG animation and are aimed at very young kids.) That lead me to do some exploring, and I as I found out, Spirited Away and Pokemon were fro the same place. I was also introduced to "Ponyo", "My Neighbor Totoro, and "Kiki's Delivery Service" as well. So yeah, that's my introduction to anime.

I know I have been on here for several years, but I decided to properly introduce myself. Hi, I'm Hanna. I love art, culture, and animation, especially anime. My introduction to anime is also super weird, if anybody is curious, I'll explain it.

A very insane Netflix movie called "Metal Lords".

Nice to see somebody who enjoys picture books as well as an adult.

That's cool! Is it for somebody in particular or yourself?

While, I have Ghibli to thank for being an introduction to anime, the very first anime SERIES I had a genuine interest for Keroro Gunso, also know as Sgt Frog in the U.S. I got into it with some encouragement from a HS peer. Yes, I also own the dubbed episodes on DVD. So, I was wondering if anybody has watched the dub by Funimation, that was from 2009-2012. Honestly, Funi's dub was hilarious and it was a shame they did not continue with it. If you have, what did you think about? But, what do you think of this anime itself?

Do you know any young ones that are into drawing, animation, and are starting to get into anime?(Pokemon for a start)? When I was looking on Amazon for anime history books one time, I came across this book from a series called "Asian Hall of Fame: The Discovery of Anime and Manga". I decided I would get it for myself even though it's a kiddie book(Yes I'm a woman in my 20s and I still love collecting picture books), but I thought it looked adorable. Pretty much any anime fan would love this book. In this book it explains the history quite well in a way that can be understood easily for those who are younger, and the illustrations are pretty fun. Of course it shows all the iconic characters like the Ghibli characters, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon etc. Heck, even Edward Elric makes a cameo! There's even an index in the back. I was wondering if any of you have come across this book at some point. This is what the front cover looks like.

You can say I have a soft spot for it.

For me, it's those slime videos. People even make businesses out of this. Others just find something like that wasteful. While this more like a genre rather than a trend, I do not understand those family vlogging channels. I in fact think they're very problematic, mostly because it's allowing children to be exposed to potential danger on the internet. What are some YT things you don't get or simply cannot stand?

Visit? Maybe. My grandmother visited there in the early 90s. She had a friend who lives up there. (He' still alive I think?) She kept a whole journal and a photo album. But, I certainly would NOT live there, and I couldn't even if I wanted to. And I have reasons that some may consider controversial. One of those biggest reasons, is that I could never live in any country that has a strongly conservative society. That's just a major problem I'd have with living there.

Thanks very much! I was very eager to share these. Sorry for the late reply.

Both have been torn down, but the images still linger. Greenland's always blanketed in fog, it's really creepy.
-
They also have the creepiest amusement park an indoor pool. Several other interesting places to check out are Nara Dreamland and Takakanonuma Greenland.

I suppose you know the Ghost Town of Pripyat? In Ukraine?
-
I also remember hearing that line in several Pokemon episodes and Clannad After Story as Well.
-
Do you remember what episode it was from?
-
Hmm, what country did this place happen to be near?

So, a bit of a strange question, but were some scenes in certain anime, where the character was sick and was shown as a serious thing? I can think of a few, but I just want to here some examples that other have. Plus, another strange question, do you recall any scenes where characters used the phrase "burning up" when another character suffers a fever?

My introduction anime was a mix of Ghibli and Pokemon. I saw Spirited Away in the theaters when I was about 4 or 5. As for Pokemon, despite not having really watched the anime, I have seen it pretty much anywhere I went. Also, at that time, I would hear the word "Japan" and it never crossed my mind where it was located. Very strange introduction indeed. Also remember having a VHS from "Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics", and I did not know that was a anime until I was 16.

Season 4 of Aggretsuko is coming out in a couple days, and I'm super excited!

How many of you on here know abandoned places around the world? There's some really cool and eerie places in Japan, specifically amusement parks. What's your list of top abandoned places? Plus, would you be brave enough to explore them?

Certainly! My main favorites are ramen, sushi, and takoyaki!
