TITLE: Noragami ( literally Stray God) AUTHOR: Adachi Toka [spoiler=SYPNOSIS] SYNOPSIS [from MyAnimeList]: I wouldn't say the plot is original or unexpected. The story follows Hiyori when she meet Yato and eventually his new shinki, Yukine, But don't be fooled by the fact it is a shonen and a typical guy fights demons trope. Shonen mangas usually involves spirits and gods, and the master-weapon thing is a lot like Soul Eater. But when you think about it, it's not about what story you tell, it's about HOW you tell it. The hysterical characters makes the story full of hilarious moments while its concept is still hard to grasp. Too bad that Hiyori isn't ass-kicking like I thought she would be, but I like her. Yato's character is very complicated, and at first I thought he will be another typical protagonist. However, he is smarter then most of the shonen lead characters, and I find his character very interesting. He may look like a naive and hysterical guy, but he have more deeper past than anyone in the serie. Yukine is also great. A lot of people dislike him, saying that he is annoying and useless. I liked the fact the he made a lot of mistakes, and also, he showed a kind and loyal side, and his character developed, and yet the Mangaka managed to keep his change realistic. And as the story goes on, a lot of sub-plots will comes up and the manga series become more and more interesting. (BTW I'm on Ch 42)

When I first read the sypnosis in wiki, I thought it was just some typical shoujo "cinderrella" story, but seeing the manga has such beautiful artwork, I decided to gave it a try. and wow! It became my favorite manga! This manga has gone off to a great start. Likeable characters, beautiful art and very well explained background stories of characters. Which are not all shiny and happy. More like they are troubled. Bullying and humiliation, depression, complexes, inability to do what's right and going with the flow because that's easier than really fighting for something you believe in. Mei is one of my favorite manga/anime characters so far. Just when you think you got her figured out, she does something unpredictable (note: PUSH). And she isn’t just the typical shy low self-esteem girl, she actually really good at lots of stuffs and the bowling scene was super ass-kicking. I just watched the live action film last weekend I love L and Misa in the movie! But I don't like Light in the movie... he look completely different from the Light imagined..

After reading Death note, I found that it is a manga with a very intelligent and thought-provoking plot. Essentially, it deals with the philosophical issues that arise when, suddenly given the power of life or death over other people, what would one do with it? As L said, Kira is evil even if that people he murdered are criminals, because murder is still murder, it is still a crime. And as L and Light trying to outwit each other, their tactics and forward-planning making the story more complex and absorbing. The artwork is more natural than a lot of other manga, which tends to attract readers by giving characters large eyes and otherwise childish faces. The change from using color to depict the realm of the shinigami and to using black-and-white for the human world when Ryuk enters, and the darkness of Light’s facial expression after his morality characteristics changed gradually after owning the Death note are very interesting. Any Death Note fans out there?
