Series that are so bad that it makes them good

Confused yet? You should be. This makes no sense right? Well oddly enough, there seem to be some series that turn into rare gems based on their unique awfulness... 

 

Excel Saga for instance, is one that immediately comes to mind. What are some strange titles you'd put in this category?

I don't know if Excel Saga is bad, since the series isn't taking its self seriously at all. Though dual parallel trouble adventure, is kind of just a neon genesis evangelion rip off, but I kind of like it.

Its kind of like B-movies, they know what they are, and don't care, cause they are just having a fun time. Then theres movies that try to be good but fail at everything. You can take the same thing for anime, Excel Saga isn't trying to be good.  Kind of like most comedy anime, like even bobobo, they are just over the top. You like them or hate them.

We can't not mention Mayoiga. That series is so bad that there is a conspiracy theory going around that it was deliberately awful, and then another spin-off conspiracy theory that it was deliberately awful to present a super in-depth message that no one understood because it was awful. We had a ton of fun with it trying to theorise about what the hell was happening, and managed to find all of these completely meaningless and incorrect links to things like The Divine Comedy. It's definitely one that you should watch with friends though. Watching it alone is probably really boring.

Idiot and single-minded MC. Inability to create tension because you know he can't lose. And if he loses he can't stay dead. In fact nobody seems to stay dead. There's no permanent consequences ever because their solution for everything is "we'll just ask the magic dragon to fix it." The times we see an attempt made at humour, it's low-hanging fruit at best. The villains either turn into the good guys eventually or they never learn, and no matter what everyone is obsessed with power. They put such a focus on increasing this power and never ending competition to set a new ceiling and then act shocked when they manage to raise it for the 300th time. 

It is perhaps one of the dumbest anime I have ever watched and yet it's somehow iconic and loved worldwide. There's just something about it. 

DBZ anime is a lot different then the manga and DBZ-Kai. DBZ had a ton a filler, and no body liked garlic jr arc, or remembers how bad it was.  Though it should have just ended with the Cell saga. Buu saga was kind of a mess.

The currently airing Demon Lord Retry might qualify. The bad part is pretty much a given. While intentionally not taking itself very seriously & a lot of parody explains the story/writing, it also has pretty poor production values. As far as the good ... well it does manage to be kinda amusing at times, though the humor is getting raunchier especially now that they introduced the trap character (not really a spoiler considering that his on screen stats list him as a “girly boy”
