  1. Whether it took inspirations from other movies or not(the only similarity with Groundhog day is that the day repeats over and over again and it's a concept that's also present in the manga), the screenplay was officially stated by the team to be an adaptation from the manga. Plus, both of them have the same alien invasion element, and pretty much the same characters and character names. So, it's at worst a 'loose' adaptation. And, you know, attacking someone's grammar is really entitled. Not everyone has English as their first language(it's not mine). I guess the correct usage is IMO.
  2. Not hardly. I do give anime a score of 9 or above. Just ones that have left a deep impact on me. And, I don't think I'll do the same in a few years time, because the only character I can remember right now is Menma, and that's because her name was called out constantly by everyone, over and over again. And, that itself is a character whom I found to be superficial and somewhat annoying, and it took some time for me to get used to her. So, yeah, we'll never see eye to eye on this.
  3. Well, they are free to like it. Plus, you view it as a guilty pleasure, don't you? It's just, DN is my favourite anime of all time, and to see it being reduced to a caricature and a joke, was something that made me really angry. And, they absolutely destroyed the character of Light Yagami in the movie, my favourite character in the series.
  4. FYI Death Note is really bad. If you've heard of the manga 'All you Need is Kill', it had an adaptation called 'Edge of Tomorrow'. It is THE best adaptation there exists right now. It's truly excellent, not just 'fine' or 'average'.
  5. It'd be great to discuss this on a weekly basis.
  6. I for one did like Naruto/Sasuke. It's one of the first things that came into my mind. Of course, these came into my mind too, and they probably coincide with your list: Lelouche/Suzaku from Code Geass Mashiro and Takagi/Niizuma from Bakuman Midoriya/Bakugou from My Hero Academia(not as strong as the ones mentioned above, but they still fit the bill) Light/L(They aren't exactly foils. Heck, they don't really have a lot of differences or similarities. They are out there to destroy each other. But, still, both of them enhance each other in every single scene).
  7. Well, I saw the first episode, and it has an intriguing world, and characters, and instead of just explaining and narrating the whole thing, it puts you into the spot and makes you experience it and just as it grips you, it gives a little bit of exposition at the end of the episode to make it more familiar. The animation and the music are phenomenal. The characters aren't annoying at all, even though they are children. I should have started it when the season began.
  8. I normally don't give an anime around 9. Only if it has made some kind of an impact for me. This anime was superficial for me, sometimes, and the characters weren't always compelling to me. Particularly the MC. And, time and again, Menma reminded me that I was watching an anime. And, because I wasn't able to get into the characters, the ending wasn't as impactful for me as it was for other people. And, when I look back, it was a pretty good slice of life anime with an ending that had a good emotional pay-off. Nothing more than that.
  9. Maybe. But things like subjective opinions don't hold true for some anime, which are considered to be universally bad. I believe this is one of them. Anyway, if you enjoy it, that's great.
  10. Mayoiga, eh? I don't know how to put this, but, it is a pretty bad anime. If you still want to watch it, ignore my comment, see for yourself. If you like it, good for you.
  11. I finished it yesterday, and I agree it wasn't bad. Though it was a bit too over-the-top in terms of physics. The good thing: the MC wasn't an annoying crybaby, and was actually pretty cool.
  12. Thing is, I didn't go into Hyouka with any sort of expectations. I asked for a light-hearted high school anime with some mystery elements, and he recommended the perfect anime to me. With Gosick, many people asked me to watch it and told me that it was very good. I don't go into any anime with expectations, I've come to realize that it'll lead to disappointment, but, you can't avoid having some kind of an expectation. It also didn't help that the series had a pretty bombastic setting, in contrast with Hyouka, in which everything, including the main character, was laid back. Also, there were 4-5 characters in Hyouka, all of them were like-able. Whereas in Gosick, I didn't like both main characters.
  13. Angel Beats and Code Geass for the same reason. CG probably has my favorite ending ever. Bakuman has a normal happy ending but because of the journey, the payoff is great. I also like Fate/Zero's ending.
  14. I like Hyouka, but I couldn't really get into Gosick. For some reason, the characters were not compelling enough, and the mystery in each episode was mediocre.
  15. It's become a guilty pleasure for me ever since episode 3. I'm at episode 9. It's not a good anime, and it has a lot of unnecessary ecchi, but, it's entertaining as hell.
  16. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. Anime Discussion Plot: A dead childhood friend of an estranged group of 5 people, who were formerly friends, appears as a spirit in front of one of them, and asks for them to get together, become friends again and help her rest in peace by fulfilling her final wish. Will they find the strength to not only help Menma, but, themselves, move on? This anime was very good. The animation, while nothing spectacular, was something of a good quality. The voice acting was good for the most part. They could have hired actual children to voice the younger roles in the flashback sequences. And, it did get time for me to get used to the voice of Menma, the dead girl. As far as dealing with trauma is concerned, for the most part, it does work in a good way. Sometimes, it gets sappy and melodramatic. It's also funny when it wants to be, which is a good thing. One great thing about this anime is that it has a satisfying ending, which is a privilege most anime don't have, particularly ones animated by A-1 pictures. I also found the protagonist to be passive. It's not him that seems to be driving events, events happen to him. I wouldn't call him a McGuffin, but, for the most part, his character wasn't compelling to me. Overall, the anime was funny, and emotional, and entertaining, and while it does fall into slice of life cliches, it compensates them by having good characters, and somewhat good dialogues, and a great ending. Score: 8/10. What did you think of the anime?
  17. I finished Ano Hana yesterday and then, I started High School DxD. Couldn't cross five minutes. Mediocre animation, too much of ecchi, and very bad writing. Dropped it. After that, I started Highschool of the Dead. While it had a lot of ecchi, it was better than High School DxD. It was also pretty fast-paced, and the story started moving instantly.
  18. I wasn't too young when I started watching anime, so, I didn't have that problem with any anime. Death Note is the second anime I ever watched, and it's my favourite anime ever. It's one of those rare anime that hooked me from the first episode, and I couldn't help but watch the whole series over and over again. I have listed Steins;Gate as one of those anime I almost dropped. The first two episodes were convoluted, but, when they discover that the microwave can do things, it hooked my immediately from that point on. It's certainly in my top 5 anime, and I'm really glad I didn't drop it.
  19. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. Anohana, in short.
  20. Here's an interesting article I read: https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/myanimelist.net/amp/featured/2187/What_Makes_a_Good_Starter_Anime To paraphrase, it states that popularity, perceived quality among the community, strong visuals, animation, character designs and simple and unique plots are deciding example. It also uses MAL data to list a few starter anime, but I don't completely agree with the list. Here's my list: Death Note Code Geass Naruto Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
  21. I know I know. Like I said. I put it on-hold, I didn't drop it.
  22. I put Kingdom on on-hold a couple of years ago, for a few reasons, and the animation is one of them. I'm planning to pick it up again at a later date, since everyone that has watched it rave about it.
  23. Rurouni Kenshin Claymore Seirei no Moribito Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom
  24. Spoilers for Naruto and One Piece. Click at your own discretion.
