  1. I don't mind 3D, but, if it's not done properly, it takes you out of the experience. A good example would be Seirei no Moribito. The 2D animation, in my opinion is excellent. But, the 3D animation is not. It's very noticeable and feels out of place. Also, this is something personal, but, I think 3D animation is not suitable for me. I'm watching this anime called God Eater, and the anime is like 100% 3D. I'm at episode 11 right now, and it still feels kind of weird to me. Maybe because it reminds me of visual novel video games, and video games based off of anime, which utilize 3D animation.
  2. I'm picking anime which had very good initial episodes, and basically went downhill after that. Akame ga Kill: Interesting premise. I thought this was gonna be some huge plot in which they carefully over-throw the Government in a grand manner. I honestly thought this could be the next FMA. But, after the 5th or 6th episodes, it became a joke, because There wasn't any emotional stake, the plot felt extremely rushed. The only redeeming qualities are the action and the animation. Ao no Exorcist: Same problem as the above. Amazing inital episodes. Showed a lot of promise. To have a comparison, My Hero Academia is what this anime should have been. But, no, after the 12th episode, they rushed it as hell, there was a boss battle suddenly, and on top of that, in the middle, you had unnecessary picnic and beach episodes. Log Horizon Season 2: I had a lot of expectations going into this series, because I loved the first season. I hadn't watched SAO yet(still haven't), so, it was the first of its kind, for me. Great characters, action, dialogue, world, it had everything. Then came the second season, it started off pretty strong. What went wrong? Instead of focusing on the existing characters, adding a few new characters, and building the world slowly and steadily, in every episode, it introduced new powers left and right, and half of the episode consisted of expository dialogue. On top of that, the anime introduced many characters, and took the time to explain who they were, only to not use them ever again. The crime is not this, it's that whenever it did that, it was for like 10-15 characters, so, you couldn't remember any of them. At around episode 14, it became unwatchable for me, because, unfortunately, it became... boring. I put it on-hold around episode 20. Honourable mentions: Mayoiga(one of the worst anime I've ever seen. Including it because it had an interesting premise, but, it became pretty bad right from the 2nd episode), Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul Season 2, Joker Game.
  3. I see. Naruto is also my favourite shounen anime, so I encourage you to watch it(skip the filler arcs and episodes). What's your favourite genre in anime, then?
  4. What's your opinion on Shounen anime? You can give a general opinion on the genre or comment on the ones you've watched belonging to the genre. Your convenience.
  5. I presume you've heard of 'Welcome to the Ballroom', one of the popular airing anime this season, then? It's also about dancing and ballet, I think(I haven't watched it, though). I have introduced a few people into anime. One of them is my cousin, he really loves Naruto, and has started watching One Piece(he's like 13, so, I thought it'd be best to make him watch Shounen anime first). I don't necessarily get into arguments on my own, but, I do try to convince them that their opinion on anime is shallow, when they make fun of it.
  6. Let me know if I've understood your point by giving a few examples: Naruto rambling about 'not giving up', Sasuke about his revenge and hatred? Regarding villains, it's hit or miss for me. I liked whenever Pain gave a monologue because he was such a charismatic character, but, Obito's always seemed like rants to me. I know that I'm only giving Naruto as an example, but, this kinda reduces the sample space and makes the discussion clearer. See, the thing with harem is that I don't really watch a lot of it, so it's not noticeable. Sometimes, here and there, it's a trope in a high school comedy/romance anime I watch. But, I did go through myanimelist, and noticed that there are a lot of harems, and many many high school anime. I guess the thing with harem is there's always conflict, but, you don't necessarily need to have a definitive ending or a payoff, and you can end the anime without revealing who gets whom. Now that is something I definitely understand. The overzealous and energetic shounen protagonist, the tsundere, the shy girl, etc., mostly have similar voice acting. In some cases, I really like the voice acting. For instance, Mamoru's performance as Okabe Rintarou in Steins;Gate is truly excellent. But, I do agree to your point. Another example: I'm watching this anime called God Eater, which is kinda similar to Attack on Titan, and if you tone down the voice performance of Eren, the protagonist of AoT, you'll essentially get the voice of God Eater's protagonist, Lenka. Maybe, it hasn't hit me as hard because I've only watched 55-60 anime.
  7. I haven't played a lot of games. These are my favourites: Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 and NiOh.
  8. I'd love to watch it. Just to experience what proto-shounen looked like, and how it influenced some of the shounen anime I've watched(vis-a-vis One Piece, Naruto, HunterxHunter, Bleach, Fairy Tail). Plus, a chance to get away from some of the serious stuff I've been watching lately. And, yes, tournament arcs. Some of my favourite arcs in shounen happen to be tournament arcs. Be it the Hunter exam in HxH or the chunin exams in Naruto.
  9. I see. Yuri on Ice is the one that's on my radar. Everybody's been raving about it. As far as Berserk is concerned, the thing I've been hearing is that it's not exactly the best adaptation, so, sometime in the future, I'm planning to read Berserk manga. My experience wasn't really extreme, people kept saying 'why are you watching cartoon when you are 15(or 16)?', etc. Sometimes, I went out of my way to explain that anime is not like that, and most of the times, it fell on deaf ears. Sometimes, I ignored them. I'm sure many people have had similar experiences. I've met people like that in other forums. It'd be great if you start a thread.
  10. In honour of you avatar, what are you thoughts on the new Wonder Woman movie?
  11. I see. That's the reason why I'm kinda putting off watching DBZ. The long fight scenes. Though, it helps that Dragon Ball Kai, the remade shortened version is there. Dragon Ball, the original series has good pacing, though right? Devoid of the prolonged fight scenes, and such, that is.
  12. Yes, that's why in my opinion it has taken its place in Shounen Jump. But, as far as exploding is concerned, I highly doubt it. Naruto was one of a kind when it aired in the West. It also didn't suffer the way One Piece did with 4kids. Ninjas were considered to be cool. But, I do think MHA will steadily become more popular.
  13. My all time favourite TV show is F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Apart from that, I like Game of Thrones(which I'm currently watching), Sherlock, Person of Interest, Arrow Season 1 and 2, Daredevil. I'm watching Lost Season 2 right now, and I like it a lot.
  14. The opening number of Higurashi no Naku koro ni. It perfectly captures the atmosphere of the anime. The anime itself is something that people don't talk about a lot these days, even though it's brilliant. The song is absolutely chilling. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9opZi6PluKI
  15. Welcome, The HenriGame. I'm new here, too. And, I'm a huge fan of My Hero Academia, too. Personally, I think it's gonna be the next big shounen anime, probably taking Naruto's place, now that it has ended. Though, technically, it already has.
  16. Thank you. That's very kind of you. I do hope to have a great time here, and have a lot of discussions.
  17. Thank you for the welcome, Drewan.
  18. Again, welcome to the forum, Luna. As for me, I love discussing anime, whether the anime is good or bad. That's why I joined this forum. The advantage I had was that it was my sister who introduced me to anime, so, I had company at home. Plus, I usually discuss anime with people who I know watch it too. I learned my lessons when I was mocked too. But, that didn't deter me. Can you name some of the new anime you watched?
  19. Dragon ball Super eh? So I assume you've watched/read Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, then. Or did you watch Dragon Ball Kai? I'm very curious about DB, since it has such a legendary status, and I haven't watched a single episode of it. And, welcome to the forum. I hope there's a lot we can discuss.
  20. Thank you for the kind welcome. I'm relishing my time here.
  21. 10. I partially agree to this point. But, fact of the matter is, most readers of Shounen Jump are of that age, so, it makes it easier for them to connect to the characters. Heck, most anime I like are probably set in high school and involve characters who are young. But, I agree, it's becoming a cliche at this point. However, if done right, there's no harm. A great example would be My Hero Academia. 9. I completely agree. 8. I didn't get your point here. 7. To add to this, I end up getting disappointed when anime do have unique settings and they fail to capitalise on it, and instead focus on the wrong things. Examples include Akame ga Kill, which could have been a Full Metal Alchemist, but, became a joke(at least in my opinion) for what happened in each episode. Also, Blue Exorcist. I really liked the first 12 episodes. After that, you get boring high school stuff, beach episodes, and then suddenly, the final battle ensues. 6. To this I agree. That's one of the reasons why I wasn't invested in Clannad, and Elfen Lied. 5. To me, Harems are enjoyable when they are devoid of Ecchi. Or when they aren't the main focus of the series. A good example would be 'Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru'. Even if it is the focus, I don't mind it as long as the MC and one of the girls have equal footing, and the MC is not a punching bag. A good example would be Masamune-kun no Revenge. Not the best anime, I admit. But, it was pretty enjoyable. 4. I'm indifferent to it. If I want romance in anime, I specifically look for it, and I don't really mind whether it's straight or same sex. 3. I agree. This is one of the reasons why Fairy Tail wasn't appealing to me. It cuts right when the hit happens. The action is not visible. It's like a gif. I haven't really seen a lot of anime using this recent style, but, I can certainly see why it's a problem. I don't mind shaky cam when it's done like the Bourne series, but, when it's really bad like Taken 2, I get headaches. Even big budget movies like Doctor Strange suffer from quick cuts in close quarter combat sequences. 2. Again, this is something that depends on whether you know what you are getting into. If it's something like Hellsing Ultimate, it's warranted. But, I do agree, too much gore enters guilty pleasure realm for me. That's why Elfen Lied always seems like it was about to cross that line. 1. This is something I'm not able to understand either. Or maybe, I don't really mind it. My qualms: Getting power-ups through shouting, misunderstandings.
  22. In terms of content, I never found violence to be something I can't handle. In fact if things go too far, it enters guilty pleasure/dark comedy realm for me. What bothers me is ecchi. I dislike it in any form. I can deal with a few shots sprinkled here and there, but, shots being constantly shoved up my face doesn't bode well for me. Of course, part of the fault lies on me too, I should know what I'm getting into(something I didn't do when I watched Nisekoi). This comes under ecchi category to: Lolicons. They creep me out. I don't have anything against those who like it, but, I'd rather stay away from it. In terms of story telling, it's about knowing when to stop. Naruto: Shippuuden is one of my favourite anime, and I'd defend it for all eternity, but, even I admit that the last couple of arcs dragged unnecessarily. Especially, the introduction of a new character(readers would know) towards the end, pretty much ruined the series for me. Log Horizon season 2 suffered from endless expository dialogues. Plot points and aspects of the game were narrated to us left and right, and throw away characters were given importance for some reason. It become unwatchable over the last few episodes(very disappointing considering that I really liked the first season).
  23. I'd be glad to get suggestions on historical anime. One that's mature in tone, with like-able characters, plot that's interesting throughout, good music and great setting. Examples would be Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Seirei no Moribito. Pacing and characters are the most important aspects for me. On a side note, I believe this is a historical anime too, but, is Akatsuki no Yona good?
  24. Haven't seen that one, but I want to. Fate/Zero(both seasons).
  25. Naruto: Shippuuden The first anime I ever watched(obviously following Naruto). Excellent character designs, exhilarating battles, great emotional moments, likeable and cool characters, amazing score. Flaws include fillers, uneven pacing, and a drawn-out ending. 85/100
