  1. Completed my first "successful" Mün landing of the new year! (Jeb looks happy now, but just wait until he discovers all the snacks were in the cargo hold.)
  2. Getting ready for the midnight toast.  Didn't have any champaign so I'm having to make do with what I have.   GTF out 2020!  🥃👍🥳🎉

And of course, Happy New Year to all...

  3. Had to work today but tonight I be like...
  4. Oh sure.  It's all fun and games until someone invents the T-800.

Actually, this has a kind of Star Wars thing goin' on in my head too.

  5. That can definitely be a problem. There's a mod for my fav Kerbal Space Program called "MechJeb". It basically flies your spacecraft for you and there's endless "debate" in KSP forums about whether it saves or destroys the game. I don't use MechJeb but there are some that I won't play without. One of my long-standing must-haves is something called Kerbal Attachment System that allows you to build and repair minor stuff outside of the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building). The most recent version of the game included that feature in stock. Of course I think that's extremely cool, but it does change the game play somewhat. I haven't seen anyone yet go so far as to say it destroys the game but there's low-volume grumbles from some of the forum denizens. Personally I don't really care what other people do to their own game. I only care when people use outright "cheat" mods that let them do things like get all the arms/ammo/armor or see through or move through buildings in multiplayer arena-style games because that affects the game for other people.
  6. I don't know about you all but personally.. 2020 sucked.

2021 isn't looking too good either.  That's the year that the movie Children of Men was set in, and the year that Kyle Reese from Terminator says he joined the human resistance.

Then comes Soylent Green in 2022.

    🙀

  7. Same here. My mom plays SV on her ipad & I've tried it. I'd rather use the PC. Not only for SV but for most things.. minecraft, pretty much anything that has mods available for it, etc.
  8. CGI?? Oh no! CGI in anime is like jeans on a hooker. Did I say that?
  9. There was a new Ghost in the Shell this year and I missed it?? Man I gotta stop working so much. A (maybe too) quick check of the usual suspects shows that it doesn't appear to be streaming anywhere however. Anyone know where to find it? Legally I mean.
  10. Rather cool, rain, hail, and a fairly good thunder and lightning show at the moment. I was trying to sleep but with all the racket I decided a midnight snack and watching the show out my window was the more interesting option. This is not daylight....
  11. My brother said he'd get in touch for a Christmas discord session as soon as he could wrangle the computer from the kids. Thinking that might be a while so I decided to check out the latest version of KSP while I wait. Started a new career & just doing the early game missions. I can do these in my sleep at this point so really just kind of just kicking back. Looks like the interesting new-to-this-version cargo-carrying parts are fairly high-tech and I'll have to level up a bit to start playing with those. I did take Jeb on a flyby of the Mün already & I have enough cash to start upgrading the facilities. Jeb's always happy to see the parachute at the end of a mission.
  12. Merry Christmas everyone!

  13. Sorry, sf=science fiction. Seems like we’ve been in a dry spell for my favorite genre.
  14. Umamusume gets a second season but still no SF? I can make do with re:zero and reincarnated slime though. Dr. Stone wound up kinda "meh" for me but I'll probably watch the second season anyway. I like Nadeshiko from laid-back camp too.
  15. I'm fairly active but I have extremely limited time. A lot of the time when I come through I just read the latest posts and move on. Even if I see something interesting I tell myself to come back later when I have more time to respond but the chances of that actually happening are pretty slim. Between work and taking care of my (80yo) mom and fixing this old house I already have almost 0 social life, and lately with the holidaze I haven't even had time for things like watching anime or playing games so even checking the forums is kind of pointless. (Though obviously I do anyway. ) As for what can be done about that I don't know. I hear the days on Mars are 40 minutes longer than here. Maybe we could all move to Mars and spend the extra time each day watching an episode of anime and then commenting on it here on the forums.
  16. Currently listening to people in the other room say things like, "it broke the spatula", "I can't pack any more in there", and "I can't do this sober".  I think they're making cookies.   :D 🎄🍪

  17. Downloaded and installed the KSP v1.11 (and BG 1.6) update, "Some Assembly Required". This basically adds the popular Kerbal Attachment System mod - the KAS of KIS/KAS - to the stock game mechanics. Now if I can just find some time to play.
  18. We finally got our “new” Linux workstations out of the boxes where they’ve been sitting for the last year and installed!  CentOS 7 and a 3.10 kernel but I’ll take it.  It may be older tech - I’m running a 5.4 kernel at home - but it beats the Sun-branded ultra-80s they’re replacing.

  19. Cleaning up some of the leftover debris from last week's plumbing repairs and chopped out a ~3 foot section of pipe around the leaking section just to see how bad looked.  I could barely see down the length of the pipe due to all the mineral/rust build up!  Surprised that a) there was any flow at all through the ~25 foot stretch that I wound up replacing and b) it hadn't started leaking before this.  Well, at least I shouldn't have to worry about this particular stretch for another couple decades.

There were a couple of spots that were rusted and leaking in a drip, drip sort of way.  This section was the only one that was actually spraying water out a pinhole leak.

This run has been there at least since I moved in in ‘76 and I’d actually been planning to replace it last year but I didn’t get to it before the virus hit.  After that I didn’t want contractors coming in unless it were serious.  This section is all outside along a cinderblock wall from the house to the pool area in back so a few drips here and there weren’t a problem in and of themselves.  The leak in this section was another matter however.

  20. Too much to do but still dedicating a few cycles to monitoring this morning's SpaceX hop in the background ...

Nooooooo!  Abort at T-1 second!  I hate it when that happens.  :D

      Maybe tomorrow.

2nd try was a RUD on landing.  Very Kerbal.  Looks like it ran out of fuel just a few yards short of the landing pad...

Elon tweeted: "Fuel header tank pressure was low during landing burn, causing touchdown velocity to be high & RUD, but we got all the data we needed! Congrats SpaceX team hell yeah!!"  Not a successful test unless you find a problem, right?  :)

  21. Only one from that list I've had time for but
  22. Started a new map in Cities: Skylines. Not really going for anything, just relaxing. I picked a nice, flat map with a bit of forest so I can have a mostly forestry-based (i.e. low-pollution) industrial sector, and so far I've been able to satisfy my power needs with wind and a minimal amount of conservation. Everyone is happy, pollution is minimal, crime is low... if only this were the real world.
  23. The Nether is a lot more interesting since the update. Also more dangerous, and easier to get distracted & lost in.
  24. This is painful to watch. I just hope this is the catalyst for building a new radio telescope that's even better.
  25. Not a lot.. I did get in about an hour of KSP last week but that's all the gaming I've had time for in the last couple weeks. (KSP does not show up here because I keep my KSP games in a separate folder from the rest of my Steam stuff. My KSP install has a number of mods and I want to keep it safe from Steam's update mischief.)
