  1. PSA:

    Drive safely
    Drive courteously
    Drive economically

    In that order.

And yes, this means even on Los Angeles freeways.  (aka "Mad Max" training zone.)

  2. It did have a pink(ish) tinge. I’m guessing at the makeup but it tasted like mayo, ketchup (tomato paste?), garlic, and maybe onion and/or couple other spices.
  3. The shrimp sauce I’ve encountered is a white sauce condiment that sort of reminded me of thousand island salad dressing. I’ve tried it but I’m not a big fan of mayonnaise and that seemed to be a major component so .. not my thing.
  4. I have both. Sakana is a little hole-in-the-wall that shares a strip mall with a Korean mini-mart and a hair salon. If I want a good sushi-and-beer on the way home from work that’s where I’d go. (“Sakana” is Japanese for “fish”.) The Sakura (“cherry blossom”) is a more upscale place in the better part of town that I’d go to for things like entertaining guests. They have those grill-tables manned by a “theatrical chef” who will build you an onion-ring volcano as they cook your food, a-la Benihana.
  5. Mysterious Girlfriend was good.. if in an odd way. This might be worth a watch.
  6. Around here (Southern California) Asian food is second only to Mexican. Even the chain supermarkets sell sushi. I can get donburi in the cafeteria at work. There’s a pretty good sashimi restaurant named “Sakana” just a few blocks away from my house, and at least 4 Japanese-cuisine restaurants close enough to frequent on a regular basis. Yeah, I eat Japanese food.
  7. Mashiro no Oto. I’m always a bit reluctant to watch stuff where the mc is supposed to be some sort of awesome performer. Too often it doesn’t work and winds up being kinda cringeworthy. This one does have some decent shamisen playing however.
  8. Ok, I admit it, I do like the occasional Gorillaz as well... I have the original PF version on vinyl. And cassette, and CD. (And of course ripped to mp3 therefrom the latter.) Even 8-track at one time, though that one self destructed, as that format was prone to do. Yeah, I liked The Wall.
  9. I’ve done a couple large-scale projects in the long-ago past. (Long, -long- ago .. anyone remember the days when you smelted iron and cooked food with flint and steel? ) It was fun but I don’t have that kind of time anymore, and it always seems something happens to lose it anyway.. the group breaks up or the server goes down, etc. These days I just play for fun when I get the chance. btw, there’s a MC topic somewhere around here.
  10. Yes, that’s been a kind of weird and long one. In a good way, though with so many unanswered questions a lot depends on how they wrap it up in the end.
  11. With me it was books. Lots and lots and lots of books.
  12. tbh, I would too. Practically speaking tho.. between work, fixing the old house, and looking out for someone who has trouble even changing channels on the TV by herself I don't have much time left for things like dating or courtship. (Never mind kids! Have you ever seen what even a single 2yo can do to a pair of otherwise sane adults?? And to even get that far you have to get past the newborn stage. )
  13. I do have an 80yo aphasic mom and a freeloading brother and SIL to take care of. Does that count? At this point the wife and kids thing is .. unlikely.
  14. Thinking about updating my "old" 2700X CPU in my main desktop to something like a 5900X. A 5900X is 50% more cores and more than double the performance overall, but since it uses the same AM4 socket and has the same heat dissipation it is theoretically a simple drop-in replacement for the 2700x. Just have to decide if I want to pay for the upgrade. (And find one in stock.) I haven't made any significant upgrades to the system since I built it over a year ago so I can somewhat justify the upgrade based on the magnitude of the performance difference. To do it right I should probably upgrade the memory too tho. Currently I'm using 3400Mhz RAM OCed to 3600. The (x470) motherboard+BIOS supports up to 4400Mhz. That would add another few $$$ to the expense.
  15. Here we go with fire season already.  It isn’t even May!   :veryangry:

  16. This is how old my house is..

      Ohayotaku

I remember the house I lived in up to 5 years ago had an old rotary phone & didn’t have a jack that you could unplug it from 😂

  17. This video of the first helicopter flight on Mars was taken from a Mars rover.

    Meta-awesome.

      Disappointed that this didn't happen:

  18. So now there's at least two experiments that are hinting that there's something odd going on with muons. Still needs more supporting data - and a testable hypothesis about what's going on would be nice as well - but it already seems pretty solid.
  19. I do that too. I start a hard-mode survival game then attempt to build some sort of elaborate construction.
  20. Ryzen 7 7000-series CPUs rumored with Zen 4 on 5nm and DDR5 .. and maybe announced as early as CES 2021. APU versions with NAVI finally too. In a laptop? Yes please! https://planetsmarts.com/2021/04/13/ryzen-7000-apus-will-combine-a-zen-4-cpu-and-an-rdna-2-gpu/
  21. gotta love those over-the-top song names. (Any B's7 fans in the audience?) (also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01H_9Ijh1Zk .. or if you prefer spotify. A whole album to play "match the song's lyrics to the pop scifi" with )
  22. On weekends I go to my other job. Old houses are such fun. This weekend was fixing the hole in the front door and replacing a run of network cable under the house. (We're rural enough that wildlife chewing on wires is a thing around here.)
  23. That’s another thing I’m looking for. My old laptop is one of the 2013(ish?) MacBook airs. It was old and slow and I was looking to replace it even before COVID. System76s “pangolin” model looks nice.. or would if it were ever in stock.
  24. I was thinking today that if the GPU pricing / availability situation goes on like this for much longer then I may consider replacing my "old" Ryzen 2700X CPU with something like one of the upcoming 5800G APUs.. and selling my old radeon RX480 gfx card on ebay to pay for it. Another entry for the "weird things COVID made us do" column.
