  1. It's cool :3 I'm going to put it up on a blog anyway. It's a bit different from a Mom's since I had to drop the eggs XD But it surprisingly still works out. If you eat eggs, just replace the flax eggs with real ones :3
  2. UWU! Last night I started Carole and Tuesday, not really sure what to expect. I'm a big fan of old school music, but listen to a very wide breadth of genres. So I've been pleasantly surprised by the music in this show! I loved the Bebop soundtrack, but I don't think Yoko Kano is working on this one. I am also really loving the characters! And the comedy isn't over the top, but definitely makes me chuckle. Anyone else watching this? It's on Netflix now, so if you stream it's available :3
  3. I've been stressing trying to rebuild my buffer X'D I'm not very good with action scenes (that's why I chose to do action! Uh..no, no it's not. I put no thought into it at all XD)
  4. I LOVE pumpkin flavored stuff There's a pumpkin patch near where my folks live. Just an old couple with small field patch, a wagon, and the honesty system :3 We try to leave more money than requested for the pumpkins, just in case people aren't paying. I like pumpkin bread and pie especially This is my mom's zucchini bread recipe, tailored for pumpkin (I...uh...am kinda like my grandma and don't always use measurements for everything, so I hope this is the right consistency...) Pumpkin Bread: 4 Flax "eggs" (1 "egg" = 1 tb ground flax seed+3 tb H2O) 2 c. unbleached sugar (Aldi has morano sugar cheap!) 1 c. oil (can be switched out with applesauce if you care about that thing.) 3 1/2 c. all purpose flour 2 c. fresh or canned pumpkin puree 1 1/2 tb baking soda 1 tb salt 3/4 tb baking powder 1 tb cinnamon 1 tb vanilla (we make our own, just shove beans in a bottle of vodka and leave 'em for a few months. You can keep refilling with vodka for just about ever XD Cheaper than buying. Have I mentioned we're cheap?) Mix flax "eggs" with oil/applesauce and sugar in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients, then slowly stir them into the wet mix. Don't over stir. Add the pumpkin & vanilla. Pour into two greased loaf pans (uh...9 x 5? I never measure the loaf pans...but mom wrote it out, sooooo?) Bake on 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 55-60 minutes. Do the "knife test" to make sure the middle's cooked. If the knife comes out clean, it's ready to go! Serve warm, or refrigerate. You can also freeze this recipe, apparently, but ours never lasts that long XD Whhhhhhhaaa? I want to try those flavors!! I never thought of pumpkin snickerdoodles!
  5. That test was pretty intense o_O Got Ravenclaw. :3
  6. Oh! I thought maybe I missed the conversation on this! I didn't see the thread, so I'm going to start this one (I wanted to comment sooner, but I'm terrible and didn't get my work done by Saturday like I thought.) I did like this film, though I was a bit confused. The name problem comes up again for me, since it had been a while since I saw the first one, and I haven't seen the series. I did like the movie, but I don't know if it's the version I watched, or what, but the jumping around at the beginning was a bit confusing. Everyone got a hair cut, too! What!? I guess it makes sense, but I liked the long hair. I'm really not going to have anything intelligent to add here XD I am disappointed in Chizuru. I like her, I think she's a kind person, but I feel she was even worse at not being able to fight or defend herself in this film. I don't think she even unsheaths her sword! Why does she have it? Other than to remember her clan, and her father is terrible, and I guess maybe her brother...but he doesn't get much screen time. I think...my overall take away is I need to watch the series. But I'm still down for the third movie! Anyone else watch it? Edit: Also, is everyone okay? I mean, the people who were in the path of the storm? I hope everyone's doing all right!
  7. Finally watching Megalo Box on Crunchy Roll (so many commercials! Ceste la vie!) We're about halfway through and I'm rating it: Five stars! Can't wait to finish it :3
  8. The myth that all anime has gigantic eyes and is loud. Tomie is a good example of just about representative facial features. Cowboy Bebop, too. The Twelve Kingdoms was not loud and "obnoxious," but was more calm and based in drama as well as fantasy (I guess it's isekai technically?) Miyazaki films are also often not as loud. Ah...now I'm sad the author never finished The Twelve Kingdoms :*( It was sooo good!
  9. I enjoyed both the anime and the manga...but personally I did prefer the manga XD I know, I know, so many people say that. For me, I didn't like how...dramatized some scenes were. I didn't feel it was necessary to keep one's attention, and while that works for some anime, I didn't feel it was the right mood for the subject. Like...a serious scene in the manga, the whole "potato chip bag" scene, was much more suspenseful, I feel, than the anime. When I saw the same scene in the anime, I laughed so hard...and it was NOT a laughing moment XD Then I groaned. To be fair, I did like the anime, but the way it altered the ending...I feel it heralded Light too much. I feel the manga handled it much better...
  10. Mamoru (Darien) and Haruka. I'm posting images from the manga--I liked them in the anime, too! (I don't own the images.)
  11. In 1993, when I was living in Central Illinois, we had horrible flooding. Havana (which is West/Central the river flooded terribly. I used to help my dad survey ("help") and I remember him driving the van through flooded roads while the frogs were trying to hop out of the way (we lived in the country, and we got it bad even around the Springfield area.) We helped to sand bag that year (I "helped" I was like in 3rd grade. I ran around, probably getting in the way XD) Same year a tornado was right in our back yard. We could see it the corn field, but it thankfully veered off--let me tell you, our home from the early 1900s withstood hundred mile per hour winds! The elementary school got demolished...except for the slide o_O (I didn't go to that school, though, so I didn't get out of can classes when they were rebuilding XD) Tornadoes and snow and ice storms are the worse I can remember...but living near St. Louis, things have just been hot and muggy...I guess I am thankful for that.
  12. I live in the Midwest, U.S. (Chicago time.) Fridays after my dudefriend gets off work we go out to eat...so I probably will be able to watch it in the evening on Friday (maybe around 8pm.) So I'd probably be able to comment/post on Saturday
  13. I always wanted to like comics, but in the 90s, aside from X-Men, nothing really appealed to me (and Mom's comics were too "adult" for me--she liked Spawn and Morbius.) So...when I got into the Sailor Moon anime and realized there was a book of it, I totally snatched that up XD These days I usually check out reviews, look at the art, and read a little bit to see if I'm going to like it. I *also* almost always will check books out at the library first, especially the more expensive ones. If I think I want to re-read it, use it for reference (I do a web comic,) or just love the art and want it on my shelf, then I'll get it :3
  14. Oh! I hope the storm doesn't hit you too hard! When I lived out in the country (growing up) just about every storm knocked out power. We had to make sure we had back up plans for food just in case. It was a massive pain (but there were good things about the country, too.)
  15. Welcome! Hope you have a good time! I just joined up about a month or two ago, and everyone seems super chill and friendly! Do you have a favorite genre?
  16. I'm game, also. I'm not sure if I can watch the film until Friday :3
  17. I second this! Also I am extremely sorry for the delayed response! I got really overwhelmed in August with comic crossovers, YouTube, and keeping up with my webcomic (which...I'm uh...doing the revamp and keeping the story going at the same time :*( ) We also just spent last week out of town, so I didn't have a chance come in here and comment. I'm so glad you commented! Chizou's importance makes a lot more sense now! I do want to see the rest of the films and the series. (it may take me a while, though!)
  18. Yeah, it was really cool to see the opposite point of view with the supporters of the Shoganate! I mean, to be honest, we often do only really see the benefits of Western influence, but not always how it also tore the culture apart a bit. I think many of Akira Kurosawa's films did a great job depicting the ronins who no longer had lords to serve under (probably my favorite was Sanjuro and Yojimbo.) It's sometimes hard for Westerners to realize just what impact we had on Japan. I was watching a video of "Get in the Robot" on YouTube, and while I knew the didn't care so much about nudity pre-Edo (I think it was Edo when the Emperor demanded to Westernize,) I didn't know that the government actually invaded people's homes and confiscated the "pornography" from the citizens! And this was mostly due the Western Judaeo-Christian influence against nudity and "lewd" imagery. Sorry, I got off topic a bit XD I do that. I really agree that I need more information on the demons and Chizuru's powers. I hope we get to find out why, besides obvious prejudice against humans, the oni hate humanity. More development on why they feel superior, beyond the "we're stronger" thing. And I really want to see more of her power! She's a frickin' demon, and she couldn't do anything but heal herself. That aspect was a bit of a let down. But! I realize we'll probably see more of it in the story to come :3 The love story...hm...I mean, I think it's going to be a touch forced, but I kinda figured they were going to ship the two main characters. Hijikata's a tough guy with a heart of gold and she's the soft gentle lady who's just bound to win him over XD I hope, if they're going that route, they develop their romance organically :3 I think it could definitely work, as she's shown to him that she, like him, honors the warrior's code. I think one thing that may be what's won him over is how without knowing he's eavesdropping, she's constantly shown her loyalty and dedication...ideals that I feel he values above all, which may have been why the Shinsengumi sided with the Shogun to begin with, and ultimately abandons them as they depart from that ideal. I dunno...I can't wait to watch the next film, though! Did you say there were three movies?
  19. Oh yeah! Mari! That makes sense. Yeah, I've seen the 90s one a couple times, but only saw a couple of the rebuild. I hope they get the rebuild. I have a box set of the old one (still can't get my dude friend to watch it XD) That suit, though!
  20. Ah! That's the series it's from! I didn't realize that. I've heard a lot of good things about Peacemaker! I really enjoyed how likable the main cast were :3 And...long hair anime mens are a personal fave XD
  21. I have to sit this one, since I'm visiting family this weekend (uh...they live in the country and the Internet's slooooow and my sis pays for it by hours or something...) I forgot I was heading their way. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread though for more screenings :3
  22. I hope I'm doing this right :3 Just finished Hakuouki Movie 1, and wow! It was pretty darn good! Now I want to see the series it's based off of! And the other films. I won't got into to much detail until the discussion starts, but I really liked characters. I also thought the atmosphere was really well developed! The pacing wasn't too slow, or too fast, so it was pretty easy to follow what was going on (though, the large cast made it a bit hard for me to remember everyone's names XD) Did anyone else have a chance to watch it today? What are your thoughts?
  23. I made the fatal mistake of watching Grave of the Fireflies when I was already feeling a bit down. I cried at several parts of the film.
