Nice lists, guys. Keep 'em coming. Hm, Dragon Ball Z....my exposure and introduction to this was through early Funimation's dub of it, which meant HFIL, "the next dimension", "good thing those people evacuated that building before I blew it up" type nonsense. lol I do still have a soft spot for it, though as it's downright amusing.

Something interesting. I liked Taiora first. The concept of it, but right before I started watching 02, I started liking Yamato x Sora for some reason. No idea why either. lol Either way, I like both pairings even now. If Bokura no Wargame, regarding Sora would've actually have been originally intended, I could see the situation being like this... Sora had a crush on Taichi. Taichi never noticed/didn't notice because, well, he was an immature boy; not into girls yet. Sora's crush on Taichi faded. Taichi started to fall for Sora, but never acted on it (I personally felt that this was intentional). Sora had fallen for Yamato. Yamato reciprocated the feelings. Of course, as pointed out, it wasn't intended and that particular writer didn't get the memo, but either way, even if this had played out in this way, it's still realistic, don't you think? You like a guy, the guy doesn't notice you in that way or always treats you as "one of the guys" or whatever and the crush fades. Boy finally starts to notice that you're a girl, but is too late and missed the boat...so yeah, I could see the scenario above playing out realistically. That reminds me of an old Disney show called Flash Forward. It was out back in the mid-90s and was pretty interesting, imo. It was about two best friends, boy and a girl. They'd known each other since maybe pre-school age (like Taichi and Sora). They're also neighbors, their families are good friends with one another, etc. Flashforward and they're high-schoolers. Now, towards the end of the series, their class had to do the play of Romeo & Juliet, and I think those two were cast as the lead and both were freaked out over it because they'd been friends for so long and actually, at this point, had a very platonic, sibling-like relationship. Friends around them were actually questioning that. Like, "Out of all the years you've known him/her, you NEVER once had a crush on him/her?" Turned out that over the years, they had had a crush on each other at some point (not currently of course), but they actually admitted it and it was interesting how they never had a crush on each other at the same time. Or, those responsible for 02 felt that those watching would already know the story behind Ken anyway. You know, assuming that many had already played the games...as far as the Japanese audience went, anyway. Ken and Ryo saw what happened regarding Diablomon (movie 2) and Ryo went missing, like, the next day or something....but I see what you mean. The game where Ryo vanishes, he'd met Taichi, Mimi, and Koushirou. Yamato too, now that I think about it and movie 3's Wallace. But...getting down to it, it is just an adaptation. Can't expect them to use all of the elements, but it was nice how the games showed how Ken became the Kaiser. Might I direct you to the following thread... http://animeforums.net/threads/favorite-digimon-anything-lol.808/ ...favorite Digimon Anything. What other things do you like from the franchise?

I doubt they'd change the lyrics. Will probably just re-record it, sorta like how Wada Kouji redid Butter-Fly a few years ago, Strong Version. At least it's not like Dragon Ball Kai or Sailor Moon Crystal...although, granted, both shows are retellings of the same story, minus the filler, but I miss the original music for both. Moonlight Densetsu is just iconic to me and is what I think of when I hear Sailor Moon...not that AKB-ish sounding stuff Sailor Moon Crystal has (I know it's not AKB, but it's another idol group). Dragon Ball Kai's intro when I did catch some eps wasn't so bad....but something about Head Chala just stood out more I guess and didn't feel or sound as generic as the stuff out now. Luckily, I doubt we'll be getting this at all because both Wada Kouji and Miyazaki Ayumi are back.

I hope the next egg have like a very low hit count. The last one was just ridiculous. April is like three weeks away.
-
Ok got this one to load. So, despite Palmon's seiyuu being credited as Yamada Kinoko (that's what the Japanese reads), she's also known as Mizowaki Shihomi (which is what I know her as). So everyone for the Adventure Digimon are back.
-
I'm having trouble loading it too. I clicked the "!" box and the page is still trying to load. I wonder if too many people are trying to load it from all over the world. Also, there's another egg left. It should be Tentomon's, although, I don't recall Adventure Tentomon's egg having stars... Edit: Part of the page loaded. So the opening is Butter-Fly and Wada Kouji will be the one to do it. Brave Heart is the evo theme, but I didn't check the name right off to see if it was still Ayumi Miyazaki because I couldn't recall the kanji right off. Wada Kouji's name is super easy to read and I was so excited, I was trying to see what else was on the page. The rest of the list that loaded then timed out, were the Digimon's seiyuu. From what I could tell barely, most look like they have their original seiyuu reprising their roles...but I think Palmon's is different, unless I'm misreading the kanji. If anyone can manage to get the page to fully load, please save it and share it here.

Personally, I'd pick the CPR course, TEFL, and writing.

Yay! Join the dark side. lol It would be nice to have some others to talk about +Anima with and I'm willing to reread it again...albeit online since my copies are stateside...

...Anime dubs. Just like the other thread, if this exists and I missed it, please lock and redirect. ^^ Anyway, what shows do you feel have good dubs? Please share and don't forget to add why you feel it's good. Noir: It's pretty close to its original and I like the original. For the most part, everything was left unchanged...just the language was changed for us to understand it. The accents for the dub are pretty goofy, but, it's more distinguishable in the dub, since this series took place in France anyway and had a lot of French and English characters. Azumanga Daioh: A comedy series. Just as Noir, pretty much nothing was changed. The voices were okay too. Of course they had to change some things because some jokes wouldn't have translated over well (like the jokes about how Osakans are or the riddles that Ayumu [Osaka] would come up with), but they worked with what the writers came up with. Gunsmith Cats: This is just an OVA, so it might not count entirely since it's so short. I didn't find much wrong with it. I like both its English version and its Japanese version. I just wish they'd given this series a full on series. The only thing that suited the characters for the dub, were the voices, since the characters are American and the series takes place in Chicago. Ronin Warriors: Even though this is an earlier series, I felt that the adaptation from the original was well done. Hardly anything was cut from the series. Even most of the music was kept, not counting the opening and the endings. The voice acting was pretty good too. They even kept most of the main characters' names, minus Shin (Sai), Touma (Rowen), Nasuti (Mia), and Jun (Yuli). This is one series where I like both its original and its dub. Samurai Pizza Cats: I know, surprising, but I only like this "dub" and feel it can fit for a "best" because it was pretty much all original, and by that, they had to make most everything up for it because they didn't have a script to work with (to my knowledge). The show was just so comical and enjoyable for me. The voices were cool too. It wasn't annoying to listen to. I like the original too. The puns are what made the show, imo. If you treat this entirely as a stand alone type series and don't compare it to the original (Kyatto Ninden Teyandee), and like randomness, I'm sure most would enjoy it. Of course, for the original, some of the jokes used in there, wouldn't have translated over all that well so American references suited it better. Oh and something else crazy and awesome about this dub....Francine used the word "tramp" when referring to Polly's outfit. Seriously, this was a kid's show. lol .hack//SIGN: Instead of getting all detailed, going to pretty much mention what I said before. VERY close to the original. No character changes, no story changes, the voices were even close. Cowboy Bebop: This is a series that is good in both Japanese and English, imo. For the most part, hardly anything was changed or dropped when shown on television ('cept for one thing that comes to mind...but that was sex-oriented, iirc). The voices were also well done for the dub, although Spike could've been voiced with a tad bit more emotion, like in the original. Gundam Wing: Odd choice, as this show did have cuts in it for its dub...like that disturbing scene with the doctors that Duo walked in on. o_O I just felt the voicing and stuff was good for it, original music, etc. Only thing that could've been a bit better was Hiro's character. He was a bit too unemotional. He doesn't seem to lack that much emotion for the original.

...Anime dubs. I know some people have viewed both versions of certain series and actually do prefer one over the other. Or course this will vary from person to person and if there is already a thread on this and I missed it somehow, please feel free to lock/close this one and redirect me there. Anywho, here's my list from over the years, even though some of these shows I'm about to mention I didn't see all the way through (either version and dropped them)... Naruto: I pretty much only disliked this for the voices and the voice acting and I can't say anything regarding Shippuden. I've never seen anything dubbed of that. Anyway, since I've never seen enough of the dub to see if they changed story plots or characters, I'm being slightly superficial here and can only go by the voice acting I heard at the time when trying to give this show a chance. I just really really couldn't stand the voice acting for some reason, though. I can't put up with it at all. And Naruto's "believe it!" was a bit grating for some reason. I didn't mind the "dattebayo" that Naruto used in the original...Takeuchi Junko is a good voice actress in general and very energetic too (you should see the Hunter x Hunter musicals where the voice actors played the characters that they voiced for the 1999 series; she voiced Gon originally), but not for the dub. Digimon Adventure 02: Ironic, another series where Takeuchi Junko does a voice role for it (as well as Frontier), but never mind that. I hated the character changes for this series and unnecessary name changes. I also hated the character bashing that wasn't there for the original version. Daisuke's character was heavily bashed for the dub. The rumor was that the main dub writer, Nimoy, didn't like his character much in a general sense, and had the other characters make snide remarks or take potshots at him. When even the most polite of characters of the series take shots at a character, you know something's wrong. Some of the voices were horrible too, like Wormmon. He sounded like a constipated old man. He's supposed to sound cute and adorable so that when he's hurt and abused, you feel more sorry for him. I also hated the jokes they tossed in (which Adventure was guilty of too) which really screwed up serious moments. Adventure had its dub issues, but 02 is what turned me off from dubs in a most general sense. One of my main character change gripes was Koushirou/Izzy. Koushirou is one of my fav characters of the series. Izzy, however, came across as arrogant because of his intelligence. It's like he was like, "I'm smart and I know it, and I want to make sure you know it too." That was my impression of Izzy for this series. Sailor Moon: I've only seen seasons 1 and 2's dub all the way through, and I didn't mind it too much. Even the dub music was nice, and to be honest, I actually liked DiC's voice actresses for the girls. I hated the cuts made to the series though, especially the SMR movie. Unforgivable! They dropped one of the best Sailor Moon songs ever...Moon Revenge!! For the little of SMS's dub I saw, I couldn't take the voice acting and hated the fact that they did chance Michiru and Haruka's relationship to "cousins". So, incest is okay, but a lesbian relationship, call in the national guard! lol Dragon Ball/Z/GT: In general, I felt that voice wise, this series was awful. Funimation's earlier version had too many cuts for it. And for DB's dub, Kuririn's pervertedness was close to nonexistent. lol I liked his perverted persona in the first series. lol In other words, the voices didn't feel that they suited the characters much....other than teen/adult Goku/Gohan/Goten (original). I know what they were going for, but it just didn't work. Fushigi Yuugi: OMG this is awful!! The voices are horrible, the acting is horrible...give me the original any day...even though the series in general is annoying.. lol With FY, you just want to stab your ears. Bleach: Most of the voices for this series difn't fit the characters, especially Hitsugaya. He was supposed to resemble like a 12-year-old kid. I liked him for the original (especially since he was voiced by Paku Romi, who I love), but the dub had to go. Hitsugaya was my favorite character too. The only character I didn't have too much of a problem with dub voice wise was Ichigo. Gravitation: This series comes across as bad to me because of, once again, the voice acting, and the fact that Shuichi's character was toned down so much, imo. He's supposed to be a bundle of energy and Yuki's opposite. He just sounded uninterested in most anything for the dub, to me, which kind of took away from the character's personality (imo). It's like they liquified some Ritalin and injected him with it. I just hated that so much. What I liked about him for the original was stripped, imo, for the dub. Okay, there goes my list, and as I pointed out, most of my dislikes are....superficial. Mostly voice acting/delivery and sound.
-
That kind of makes sense. I never once thought about it...
-
Yeah, it's an interesting series. I highly recommend to not only you, but anyone who's interested in the series with these types of matters. My only gripe with this series is that...it ended. lol I wish there was more to it. I own all ten volumes of this series. I first came across it when I was assistant teaching at my former middle school about seven years ago. While sitting in the library with one of the students, who had to make up a test, I decided to look at one of the books out of boredom and was surprised to see comics/manga there. Never were there comics when I was a student there when I was a kid. I saw the first volume with a boy on the cover which gave off a slight Native American look and just started reading it and was hooked. Right after work that day, I went directly to the Barnes & Noble and looked this series up and bought all the volumes they had released at that time. So....yeah. lol

Oh, strange names....probably most of the Dragon Ball character names. Oh, okay. lol Well, TK isn't too farfetched a name, is it? It's an English name, and in Digimon's case, this was only used for the English dub, although, I've only come across one TK in my life and the only actor I can think of with that name is TK Carter. Forgot what the TK stood for, though, regarding both. Probably a first and middle name collaboration, like how DJ from Full House stood for Donna Jo. Back to Takeru, though...for the dub, his name was, Takeru "TK" Takaishi, like a nickname. The same went for Yamato, Taichi, and Koushirou. Yamato "Matt" Ishida. Taichi "Tai" Kamiya Koushirou "Izzy" Izumi. I can say that I find "Tai" a strange name, since it's a girl's name in Japanese. lol I wonder for the dub of Digimon Tri if they'll correct the Kamiya thing back to Yagami since it was a genuine mistranslation and misread and I could understand how, too. Edit: Maybe, like pointed out above, it's not as common in other countries to have abbreviated names, like in this case, TK.

No Bra was a bit more...complicated. This character crossdressed all the time, and he started at a young age (when it was explained) but they're highschoolers at the point where the story starts. It's all because of mistaken identity, iirc. That aside....I think I'd pass on that series too, the one you described. lol
-
Glad to help. Oh and the other recommendation, +Anima. I highly recommend this underrated series.
-
I've never heard of that series (not too surprising with me) lol. I read a series called "No Bra" that kinda had that type of situation. The main characters are two high-school boys. One is a cross-dresser and wants to enroll in the main protagonist's school, but wanted to wear the girl's uniform. Hey, thinking about it, Momiji in Fruits Basket wanted to wear the girl's high-school uniform over the boy's one. He was a great character, imo. He was definitely my favorite. He was one of the most open and optimistic characters, but had one of the saddest and painful backstories. You just always wanted to give him a hug.

Marmalade Boy. Even though the anime, imo, wasn't all that great since it did create some nonexistent drama, I feel the manga is an interesting read and the lead character Miki wasn't constantly insecure, like the anime made her out to be. Much better in the manga, imo, but I do have a slight nostalgia and soft spot for its anime, especially if I hear the opening theme. *clears throat* Here's a short synopsis. So yeah, not much else I can think of without spoiling it. The story goes up into Miki's adult years (I think university). There are also other characters, like Miki's best female friend who is smart, pretty, and popular, but never accepts dates...but don't want to spoil it. Let's see, what else....oh, how about Fruits Basket? If you don't mind a jousei series, maybe check out Kimi wa Pet. Oh, Gokusen! That's also an interesting series, imo, and since you're studying to become a teacher (right?), you may find it interesting as well. So yeah, I do recommend this one as well. This is also another jousei series, but I love it personally. They also made a live-action drama of this series, but it's different from the manga. I only watched the first. The students she started with graduated and they brought in new characters...so I couldn't fully get into it. There was also a live-action drama of Kimi wa Pet. I couldn't get into that one either, but iroically, the actor/singer who played Shin in Gokusen played Momo in Kimi wa Pet. Just realized it. lol
-
Hey, forgot one. If she's the type that likes annoying love quadrilaterals, I highly recommend "Marmalade Boy". lol The anime was annoying with that, the manga not so much and I really like the manga. It didn't include the unnecessary drama that the anime created. Not just anime. I meant that in a general sense with practically any form of entertainment as what's most important, imo, is definitely genre. I like mystery and crime stuff, so I may watch a crime drama, like Law & Order, for example. Since I like mystery, this is what drew me to a novel series like Sherlock Holmes or series like Detective Conan and Q.E.D (this series is highly underrated and is in Detective Conan's shadow) There will be some genres that appeal more to one gender than the other, but everyone has different tastes in things. It should be ignored when introducing someone to a show. I also like fantasy...so personally, this is probably why I like the Tales series.
-
I've gotten that way too, but not as much as I do when it comes to some of the humor, so I end up thinking, "This actually got past the censors?" Like...Animaniacs. Some of the jokes used on that show went over my head as a kid. Going back to it as an adult, I scratch my head over some of them, like the Madonna Truth or Dare thing or that "finger prints" joke. Forget that first joke, that latter one is still amazing. Still would LOVE to know how that got past the censors.
-
That should be irrelevant. Gender shouldn't matter, although I doubt I'd have been interested in a sports show much, but that's just me. I'd rather watch a real game, personally....although, granted, I'm not a big fan of basketball. Baseball, I prefer or volleyball, but never mind that. What types of shows does she like in a general sense? What genre of books or movies or games or TV shows does she like? Instead of just tossing the best show in your opinion at her, find something that would match her style instead. If she is, indeed, a sports fan and a fan of basketball, show her that Kuroko show or Slam Dunk or whatever. If she's a romantic, introduce her to one of those fluffy series with a romance plot, like, um....maybe Clannad? If she likes junk involving giant robots or mechs, show her one of the many Gundam series. If she likes cutesy stuff, show her....I dunno, Hamtaro. etc. The possibilities are endless.
-
In a general sense, I prefer 2D animation. Not big on 3D or CG all that much, and ironically, I watch the 2k12 Nickelodeon Turtles show. lol I like the story and characters....not all that impressed with the fact it's CG, though.
-
Maybe some day, I'll go back to watching it. I haven't since it originally aired. Like I said, after like the first couple of seasons, I gradually just stopped watching it. I can't recall if it started in 1995 or 1996, though. In general, I wasn't watching Nickelodeon as much as the format started changing for the network round about the mid 90s, imo. I guess if I watched the show now, I probably would notice something more, watching it as an adult as opposed to a teen.
-
Surprisingly, no, I'm not. It's a 90s Nicktoon, though and I did grow up with it, but given my age at the time when it came out (early teens), I didn't watch it as much as say my younger cousins. Never seen all the eps. Got bored of the mean Helga thing after about two seasons, but I did catch an ep occasionally during its original run after the first two seasons, like the ep with Helga and the psychologist I mentioned and the observations about her negligent family and implied alcoholic/manic depressive mother was present from the first season. Of course it wasn't outright stated since it was a kid's show, but it was heavily implied. Anyway, whenever people talk about the show, seems Helga is generally praised and liked by fans of it. I couldn't help but think of her character with how you guys were describing "tsundere". She even fights with other kids at times (well, Harold anyway) and always punches Brainy in the nose...but, that's an onrunning gag with him. He'll just sometimes appear behind Helga and breathe nasally and she'll punch him. That psychologist ep I mentioned, after the visit, Helga felt better and Brainy showed up and Helga was like, "I won't hit you today" or something like that and Brainy couldn't handle that and punched himself in the face. I think HE needs the shrink. lol
-
I never thought about it that way. That probably explains why so many people are fans of Helga from Hey Arnold. She's rude to pretty much everyone around her. Her classmates and even her best friend at times (with her she's a bit bossy towards her). It all stems back to her home life and how screwed up it is. Ironically, they did actually do an entire episode about Helga. The school made the students go to a counselor and the counselor was concerned about Helga and asked to do a session with her. We learn why she first became mean to those around her, how her crush on Arnold first started, and why she started being mean to him when they apparently started off on friendly terms.
