As the thread title states, what's your favorite movie of all time?

Mine would be Toy Story 2. It has everything I love about movies; emotions, drama, characters, a good story, and philosophy all mixed into one.

My favorite movie of all time would have to be an old black and white comedy called Road to Morocco.

The Lion King. I have to admit that I'm a huge fan of Disney and The Lion King is one of my favourite Disney films of all time. It had a pretty good story, even if it was suspiciously similar to Hamlet. The soundtrack was absolutely unforgettable though.

I really need to get around to watching that, I love Disney but I still have a backlog of films I need to watch. I probably saw it when I was young but I can't really remember it.

I have listened to the soundtrack though and I love the main theme that plays during the dance scene. One of my favourite things about Disney films has always been the music. One of these days I'm going to have to do a marathon of all the Disney films

Probably Back to the Future. Sure, it may had some contradictions of things that didn't make much sense. However it was one of the first examples that shows the dark side of time traveling, and that was what got me interested in the Time Traveling genre.

Jurassic Park.

For me, this movie is flawless. The score, the acting, the insane animatronics...it's perfect.

Jurassic Park was one of my favorite movies of all time. A lot of people dismissed it as a glorified B-movie, but I feel like they missed some of the more subtle themes in the story, and I'm not just talking about the obvious "man defying nature/god" theme.

My favorite scene in the movie, for example, was when John Hammond was talking to Dr. Sattler about his vision, and how he had wanted to create something real that people could see and touch, not just an illusion, and I felt it was an excellent metaphor for what the movie had represented at the time. A lot of people forget, dinosaur movies before Jurassic Park looked very fake, much like the illusion John had described. It's not until the realistic animatronics of Jurassic Park came along that we could finally see dinosaurs coming alive, something we could believe that was real, not just puppets controlled by people in the background. John's vision of granting people that gift of seeing these illusions for real could also apply to filmmaking in general, where talented artists bring stories to life on the big screen.

There's just something really sentimental and melancholic about that quote of John in the movie that fascinated me. It made John a tragic idealist whose grand vision fitted the theme of resurrecting dinosaurs quite appropriately. Bringing dinosaurs back to life was treated as an unethical act against mother nature in the movie, but at the same time, it showed just how magnificent those creatures are as well. John's vision itself was flawed, but much like the idea of bringing those wonderful creatures back to life, it was admirable. Just about any 10 year old kid could relate to John's ambitions. Which of them wouldn't want to see a real life dinosaur?

Then again, maybe I am reading too much into what is a glorified B-movie. xD

Anyway, Jurassic Park aside, I have a lot of other favorite movies as well that I didn't get to mention. Here's my top 20 list:

1. Toy Story 2

2. Toy Story 3

3. Casino Royale

4. The Fly (1986)

5. Aliens

6. The Dark Knight

7. Watchmen

8. Independence Day

9. Speed Racer

10. Jurassic Park

11. Predator

12. Mission: Impossible

13. The Prince of Egypt

14. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence

15. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

16. Back to the Future

17. The Prestige

18. The Machinist

19. Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)

20. The Cabin in the Woods

I Robot

I rewatched some of the scenes to this, and it feels like a really underrated film that might have been misjudged (me being one of those naysayers back then). I'm planning to rewatch this in the near future to give it a proper assessment.

I also plan to write a really length post discussing in length the 20 movies I mentioned above, one part because I feel like it's something I need to state for posterity, and another part because I just love talking about my favorite movies.

That said, for now, I'll just throw another movie about robots out there: Ex Machina. Amazing and highly intelligent thriller with a great plot twist. It's one of the few movies I would actually call a masterpiece. I remember giving it 5 out of 5 with full satisfaction.

My favorite movie is either Howl's Moving Castle or Phantom of the Opera (2004). Those two stories never cease to catch my interest and I'll watch them with anyone, anytime. Frozen is falling into that category, too.
