Favorite holiday foods and meals

It's almost Thanksgiving in the U.S and right around the corner is Christmas. A big part of both of these holidays is getting together with friends and family to share delicious food with each other.

What is your favorite food you have to have every Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Favorite dessert?

What's your ideal holiday meal?

To start off the conversation my favorite food is honey baked ham. We usually have that on Thanksgiving and my favorite dessert for this time of year is Dutch apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Simple but delicious.

My ideal holiday meals are ham for Thanksgiving, mashed potatoes and gravy and there has to be a broccoli cheddar bake for me to be happy. Christmas I like to have turkey and stuffing with green beans, corn, mac & cheese and butter biscuits.

My dad is American so wherever we went my mom always made a small Thanksgiving dinner for him every year. It was always turkey on Thanksgiving for us and I quite liked that along with stuffing and potatoes. For dessert we would have pumpkin and pecan pie but I like the pecan pie best. I won't be having one this year since I live on my own and it's not celebrated here and I don't have the time to put something like that together.

I'll be back in to visit @Sakura for Christmas and I'm told you are going to be there too so I'll leave Christmas dinner up you to guys 😋

Meat: Ham (honey baked is a bit too sweet for me, prefer savory). My sister usually makes some bbq meatballs as well.

Veggies: Green Beans, Pickled Beets or Mustard Greens

Fruit: Pineapple (not  cooked on top of the ham though), Orange slices , Apple slices (crisp & tart)

Carbs: Rolls or Cornbread (not sweet), Mac & Cheese

Drink: Tea (iced, somewhat sweet). Not really a fan of hot beverages.

Dessert: Brownies (chewy), Chocolate Chip Cookies (hot from the oven), Gingerbread. Vanilla ice cream as a side or topping.

Snacks: Popcorn

I never experienced a Thanksgiving yet this year will be my first one. We aren't doing very much here at home but going to a Friendsgiving being held by the apartment community.

For Christmas we would always bake a ham and have many side dishes. Rosolli and laatikko, I think these may be only a Finnish thing 😆 We also make a smoked fish which is served by many on Christmas in Finland. Other side dishes boiled potatoes or mashed potato, corn, beans, sweet rolls and sweet potato casseroles. Breakfast in Christmas morning my mom would always make a breakfast casserole. We really like casserole there lol.

My favorite thing to eat on Christmas is joulutorttu, another of Finnish things I think only. They are very simple Christmas sugar pinwheel cookies.

I guess you & I do about the same thing for the holidays since we are in the same family lol ~ but yeah I like turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas because I don't really eat ham.

Favorite side dishes are mashed potatoes with lotsa gravy, broccoli & cheese rice, those lil cheese balls my mom makes. I think they super simple to make but somehow like the best thing ever. If I remember right it's cream cheese, worcestershire sauce, green onions, white onions, diced up salami and mixed together somehow.

Favorite desserts for this time of year is chocolate pie or blueberry cobbler for Thanksgiving and sugar cookies for Christmas. There's also this ice cream that Little Debbie puts out this time of year that is those Christmas cakes but in ice cream flavor and it has chunks of the Christmas tree cakes in the ice cream and it's amazing @.@

For drinks I don't really have a fave drink except hot chocolate around this time of year, preferably peppermint.

I'm the same way though I don't like the texture of the stuff in the cans but I like stuff like cranberry  celebration salad.

It's not all that strange. I don't like coffee or cheese but I like coffee flavoured icing on cakes (I love coffee and walnut cake), cheese flavoured biscuits and cheesecake.

I think a lot of that has to do with textures. For me that's how it is anyway.

No, they contain different ingredients and like Ori said have different textures if you are weird about textures. I'm someone who is weird about food textures too.

There are several textures I don't like I think that is one of them. And yes the ingredients tasted weird to me in the sauce but not in the berries.

Oh, hands down, it’s gotta be Thanksgiving-level stuffing and mashed potatoes for me comfort food at its finest. 🥔🍂 And don’t even get me started on holiday desserts like gingerbread cookies or pecan pie. Basically, if it’s carb-heavy or covered in sugar, I’m in.
