I remembered a black and white show I watched when I was younger thinking about b&w shows except it was about a talking horse called Mr. Ed.

I remember that show too XD Though I had totally forgotten about it ~ I think I read once they put peanut butter in his mouth to make him move his mouth like that so it would look like he was talking but I don't know if that is true or not o-o

I did a little searching and found that they put a nylon thread in his mouth in the beginning to make it look this way and than later the trainer was able to teaching him how to do it by touching his hooves. It said that the director initially made up a story of the peanut butter and told everyone this was how he got the horse to move its mouth because he didn't want anyone to know how he actually was getting the horse to do this.

Ooo that's kinda cool actually. I definitely heard the peanut butter story before but I wasn't sure if that was true or not. I kind of wonder how a nylon thread worked though.. I guess because it felt uncomfortable or something and made him move his lips all wonky 🤔

There is probably a lot of things that are considered animal abuse that weren't back then lol Things are a lot different but I also think it's good there are animal rights groups advocating for animals these days.. at least the ones that don't get too carried away and weird about it.

I saw PETA was putting on packages of bacon stickers of a picture of a pig and it was saying, "This is Emma you are eating she had a husband and a family and you killed her" this seems extreme.

I think that in general the various animal protection organisations do a reasonable job and have a hard task protecting animals from commercial companies who are only interested in money and profit and don't care how much suffering they cause to animals in their operations.

The problem comes when some of their supporters become fanatical activists who employ extreme measures to force their agendas on everyone else, which can have the effect of discrediting the organisation they claim to be supporting.

This is what I don't like, when someone tries to force whatever their own belief or agenda is on me. It's fine if someone wants to be vegetarian/vegan/whatever or the same applies to religion or politics. I don't mind what people believe or do as long as they don't try to force me to do the same, and as long as it isn't hurting anyone either.
I have no problem eating meat but I wouldn't want the animals to be abused of course, but I don't mind if someone doesn't eat meat as long as they don't try to lecture me and force me into not.

Yes I agree with how you feel in regards to anything. Once I don't mind if someone tells me about something but if I say I believe another way or think another way I don't want it to be continued to be preached at me. People are entitled to their own beliefs or ways of life, if as you say, they are not hurting another with it.

I agree, but going by the number of reports on my local neighbourhood's web forum there's quite a lot of people who believe that their need of someone else's car, bike, mobile phone etc is greater than the owners so it's OK to take it. 😡

Lately so there has been a lot of robbery around where you are living? Have you had anything taken from you? Luckily for me the only thing that goes missing is the chips from my hand (or if I happen to have another snack of some type), but this is also the price of being someone's best friend for close to 20 years 😆

There's not really a lot of thefts where I live, the local web forum covers a fairly wide area which tends to make things look worse than they are.  Most of the thefts are opportunists taking advantage of people's forgetfulness, while most of the car thefts are by organised gangs who steal to order.  My house was burgled many years ago and several small valuable items were taken. We had an alarm system installed soon afterwards, quite a few houses in my road have alarm systems.

I think there is a lot more thefts and things around than really get reported to the police. I remember in the neighborhood I lived in before my current one, every Summer car break ins would flare up for some reason and no one really reported it or did anything about it. The police wouldn't do anything about something like that anyway since they would mostly just take small items from the cars and the same thing happened with people's sheds or garages. I would feel somewhat unsafe though if someone broke into my actual house and stole things. I would be afraid they would do it again when I was there x.x

A serious crime indeed, and there are ways of dealing with it. 😲

I'm sure a lot of small thefts go unreported because people know there's nothing the police can or will do, personally I think even very minor thefts should be reported so that the police have a better idea of the level of crime in the area.  Having your house broken into is not a nice thing to happen and the burglary, even though it was many years ago, has affected my view of home security and whenever I go out I check to make sure all the doors and windows are closed and locked and set the alarm system, I even set the system when I go to bed at night (it's got a special nighttime setting that deactivates the upstairs sensors). Like you my biggest worry is that someone would break in while I was there.

I have some ways 🤭

Yeah I am sure they are so overwhelmed anyway with crimes that are much more serious than Becky from Main Street got her garage broken into and her 5 year old toaster stolen lol ~ Though in some of these robberies people are lifting a lot of high priced items. I read about a series of celeb house break-ins that turned out to be teenagers but they were stealing designer bags/jewelry/clothes and making out with tens of thousands of dollars of items. I believe they were caught though.

I kind of like where I live for this reason, being in a high-rise apartment you have to scan your keycard multiple times such as at the main door, elevator, etc to even get into the resident halls, and there is also security at the desk at all times who knows pretty much everyone that is in the building so would be able to identify a suspicious person. I would be way more worried about it if I lived in a stand-alone house.
I can imagine that would affect you permanently though if you had your house broken into. I would be double-checking all my windows and doors. I was robbed at gun point 6 years ago and it still sticks with me to this day to the point I don't go out without a tazer and pepper spray on me, and I'm always looking for exits every time I go in a building or something in case something similar happens again. It even prompted me to take self-defense courses.

Thankfully I've never been robbed in the street and being robbed at gun point would scare the daylights out of me, fortunately gun crime isn't common in the UK as guns are not easy to get hold of.  The big problem is knife crime, many thieves carry knives as a matter of course and there's been several incidents recently where people have been stabbed to death and any report of a person brandishing a knife in public will result in a rapid police  attendance usually including an Armed Response Unit (Only specially trained officers in the British police carry guns).

In the UK both tazers and pepper spray are regarded as offensive weapons and it's illegal to own or carry them, being caught with a tazer can earn you a 10 year prison sentence or a very hefty fine.  The only people who are allowed to carry a tazer are the police.

Knife crime sounds as scary as gun crimes, no matter where you go I assume there will be some level of crime, people always find a way to murder or hurt other people. I must admit that being stabbed to death sounds a worst way to die to me than by a gun as a gun seems as if it would be more instant and knifes you would feel and take a lot longer to die. Even though I will prefer to not die in either of these manners 😅

In Finland we also had very strict gun laws. In comparison to other Nordic countries however I think Finland has the highest gun crime rates.

The tazers we are allowed to carry are really low-grade I think compared to police level tazers. It's just enough of a shock to confuse someone enough to give you time to get out. As a woman, I would feel super unsafe walking around the city at night and taking the subway if I didn't have a way to defend myself with something like pepper spray. Especially since there is so much human trafficking in these large cities, I at least want something to give me a fighting chance if something did happen.

I personally wish we had stricter gun laws for both people and police in the USA. I don't think police get enough training or proper training and a lot of them seem pretty trigger happy. There is definitely no way to deny there is a gun problem in the country.

In the UK a police officer has to undergo a rigorous training programme before being authorised to carry a gun. They are also accountable for every bullet they fire, and I think they also have to give the reasons why they fired. Actually using their gun is pretty much a last resort if there's no other way to protect members of the public from harm.

That is how I also feel gun safety should be with police. The police first thought should not be to shoot the citizen in question unless this is something absolutely necessary as they are an immediate threat to another person because maybe hostage or something. This situation is rare to happen. Being accountable for firing a weapon should be mandatory and wearing body cameras that are always turned on as I have heard many cases in the US that the body cameras are conveniently turned off when something happens.
