Making onigiri for the first time today. I'll be making a few with lemon pepper tuna & a few with salted plum. I think as a fun hobby I'm going to start making onigiri to celebrate some of my favorite anime characters.

Hows everyone doing ?

Oh my God...I summoned the Queen Bee in Terraria by mistake & that boss battle scared the HELL out of me! She literally growls, snarls, & roars at you while coming at you at the speed of light, knocking you all over the place. My goodness!

That sure would have been nice to know because I teleported myself back home because someone told me that it's actually better to fight her out in the open versus in an enclosed space like a cave. I'm going to battle her again today now that I have a weapon that does higher damage & better armor as well.

Keeping an eye on the "bobcat" fire that's wreaking havoc over in the foothill communities east of me. Friday it was almost 13 miles away. Today it is just under 10. It is creeping closer, but also seems to be dying down in intensity with the cooler weather. (Well, relatively cooler. Still supposed to get up to 93F today.) Not a problem for me yet except for air quality and ash, but I'm concerned that there's nothing between the fire and me except for the national forest area. That area is wooded, mountainous terrain that has plenty of fuel for the fire but makes it hard for the firefighters to fight the fire in. In the past fires in that area have been a problem because they can't really be attacked in the forest itself, but as it burns through that area it can suddenly flare up and cause problems, especially if the wind picks up. Worst case we get one of our hot, dry "santa ana" winds coming from the high deserts in the north and east that fans the flames and quickly drives them into the populated areas. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one. 2020 has been kind of an asshole to me so far.

Broiling lobster tails and shrimp this weekend
Haven't broiled lobster in ages & because I don't want to screw them up, I found a simple recipe to follow:

Sadly I didn't like mulan 2020 live version

Currently watching Food Wars but I really want to start multiple series at once but I know how that will turn out in the end. I have no patience and want to watch everything, ugh.

Found some lingonberry jam at the market today. I think there will be some homemade Swedish crepes to accompany a lovely European inspired breakfast in my not too distant future.

@Nicholas D. Wolfwood I love that image so much! Yourichi is such a badass!

When I look outside rn, I get the impression that the gates of hell have been opened, that's how awful it looks. Might even get a flooding this time in our town, which hasn't happened so far. Also the power might die any second now, sheesh.

I just made some spicy baked tilapia, roasted root vegetables, & sauteed corn & mushrooms. My kitchen smells amazing!

@EvaUnit69 I bet they were tasty. I'm determined to visit the UK one day & have fish & chips there, just because lol.

Migraine is going on two days now and it absolutely sucks. Drinking more water now, took some nausea meds and tylenol to help (or at least hopefully helps). Gonna lay back now and watch movies for the rest of the day.

Something a little more main stream, but you might dig it

@EvaUnit69 listening to it now. I can get into this quite a bit. I work out a lot these days so stuff like this is perfect for me because a big part of my daily workouts are getting 20,000 steps a day which sometimes morphs into me dancing wildly all over my house for a few hours haha.
Not sure if you've heard of these artists but here are a few songs that I really like:
And this last one is just a ridiculously awesome remix:

Tonight's dinner was some baked tilapia with roasted Brussels sprouts, onions, & butternut squash. I am now dancing around like a lunatic thanks to @EvaUnit69

You know, it's a darn shame that I have to drive to an entirely different city just to find produce that doesn't look it fell out of a rubbish bin. On the bright side, I did find a wider variety of fruits for snacking this week: apples, pluots, red plums, pears, peaches, & nectarines.
I also plan to get some grapefruit, lemons, apricots, & grapes but I'll have to drive even further away for those so I might just go in the morning.
The best part of this is that now that I eat fruit so often I've begun to crave it instead of things like potato chips, cookies, etc. & I'm not too far from reaching my next weight & fitness goals, so this is very encouraging.
-
@Wedgy thank you. It has been an adjustment to be sure.
I've started taking a clear bag with fruit in it & leaving it in my desk at work so I have one to snack on in the morning & one to eat right before I clock out so that I'm not tempted to stop anywhere on the way home or over eat at dinner. I also have a full glass of water before I leave as well.
I pass 5 different restaurants on the way home & I only live a few minutes from my office. Luckily, I stopped eating fast food last November. Keeping well stocked on veggie burgers & plant based nuggets, etc. keeps me from being tempted to stop also.
I've had to put all these small behavior changes in place but now they're just second nature. I've been reading articles on how obesity decreases the effectiveness of medicines & vaccines due to the underlying issues that often accompany being overweight. That paired with my desire to just have more energy, travel more, & get serious about cosplaying are all more than enough reasons for me to make my health my main priority.

@Wedgy that's just it. I do have access to it in my area. I live within a 20 mile radius of 6 different grocery stores, 3 of which are within walking distance. The problem? Due to this crisis & rising cases here, people are stocking up on more produce as soon as it's stocked, so if you don't get there at that time you're stuck with whatever's left. There are specialty natural grocers in surrounding cities that carry mostly organic produce & they stay fully stocked but the prices are much higher. Given that I stock up on fresh produce only once a week, the drive isn't too awful. Now if all I wanted were apples, bananas, & maybe some fresh pineapples or tomatoes then the local stores have got me covered & then some. But if I'm going to be able to maintain this, I need variety.
Something fun that I've started doing is googling the health benefits of various fruits & vegetables so for example, one week I'll focus on produce that helps with blood pressure, one week weight loss, one week anti cancer properties, etc. This ensures that I'm eating a wide variety of produce & getting a greater amount of natural vitamins & nutrients. If it simply isn't possible to get the fruit I want or need, I just buy it frozen. It's not the end of the world, I just prefer fresh when I can get it.
I've also changed from having one free day each week to every two weeks & am going to change it again to just once a month. I'm doing this to help break the habit of using food as a reward. Eventually, there won't be any designated free days at all. In lieu of food, I'm using my desire to cosplay as a reward instead. The next weight/fitness goal is quite significant for me so I am going to start buying items to put together my first cosplay. I've decided on Yourichi from Bleach. Part of the reason I chose her is because she is extremely fit, so it serves as motivation. I've even started choosing some of my strength training based on her physique. She has great arms, so I've added more upper body exercises.
I'm feeling a lot better these days & that will only increase if I keep going. I'm very proud of my progress so far & am finding new ways to capitalize on this momentum.

I've chosen a few ab exercises to add to my daily fitness routine on top of my 20,000 steps, leg lifts, stretches, & free weights. I decided to start with planks. Now why I chose to do such a hellish thing to myself is beyond me but..oh, wait, wait, that's right...this is all because I decide to join the fitness challenge at work that goes from now until the end of October. Yes of course, how silly of me to forget.
-
Oh, the plank side steps are what I'm doing. My feet are touching the ground though & when I 'rest' in the center it is in original plank form. I'm only doing 25 a day(actually 50 I guess since it's 25 for each side) to start with because I have 3 other ab exercises that I'm doing at 25 each. So I'm doing 100 leg lifts, 100 arm curls, 100 ab exercises, & my stretches along with my 20,000 daily steps. Sounds like a lot but those exercises are all done in about 10 mins, so roughly under an hour. I've found that incorporating small amounts of exercise daily is the most effective for me.

Finally found corn dogs that I actually like. These are AMAZING!

These tasted fantastic with some hot mustard Obviously, having things like these too often won't be happening due to the high sodium content but once in a while with some fruit or a large salad will be fine. I'm just happy to be having great luck finding healthier items that honestly taste good.
A coworker of mine just had a heart attack & she said that clogged arteries were a major factor & another coworker of mine just got off bed rest due to her blood pressure being elevated due to gaining quite a bit of weight. I'm really glad that I've started investing more into improving my health.

I've upped my minimum daily steps back up to 20,000 & have also started back with my strength training. The first week is always the worst because I'm so hungry the whole time....ugh...
Luckily, I've stocked up on lots of fresh fruit, salad greens, & some low fat cookies & snacks to help me out until my body re-adjusts.
-
@Wedgy great tip & yeah, I drink a LOT of water. I quit drinking sodas & fruit juices last year so now I only have water, tea, & skim milk or almond milk. Occasionally I will have decaf coffee as well.

Heard on the radio that today is National Chicken Wing Day. At the risk of revealing how truly maladjusted I am, I have NEVER understood this fascination. I don’t care what kind of sauce you put on them, just ain’t enough meat on the damm things.
