So what anime edits do you know about that did not make it to America when they moved the show over from japan?

Anyone remember when sailors Uranus and Neptune became "Cousins"?

 

On a "lighter" note in Yugioh they took out a whole season because Yugi did stuff like set a guy's crotch on fire. Not to mention any explanation in the "first" episode why Yugi suddenly hits puberty int he middle of the game,

The only ones I can honestly say I know of is 2 you already listed. The parts of Yugioh (Like I think the first episode had some things that were removed? Was that in the first episode?) And the Sailor moon lesbian stuff lol I don't watch a lot of the Japanese language ones because I can't read the subtitles due to my eyesight well without giving myself headaches so I don't know what they change exactly unless I happen to read about it somewhere.

My introduction to anime was Star Blazers back in the 70s/80s. In addition to changing all the characters names to sound more western (Derek Wildstar, Nova Forrester, etc.), the most blatant change was renaming the ship  from Yamato to Argo. In case you didn’t  know, the Yamato was a WW2 Japanese battleship that was sunk by the US & a symbol of national pride to Japan (which made it kind of an odd choice anime to adapt into a kids’ cartoon in America). When the 2199/2202 remake movies were released in the US, they still called it Star Blazers for nostalgia purposes, but at least they used the Japanese names for the characters & ship. I remember reading about numerous other changes like the doctor drinking juice/soda/milk instead of booze, but it was fairly obvious what it actually was.

What annoys me about the edited things is the way they change the names of characters when it's done in English. I sometimes watch the subs if I am really looking forward an anime then will also rewatch this in English when it comes out. The names will be very different from the Japanese. I had already gotten used to the Japanese name of the character and the switch up annoys me.

Back when I started watching anime dubs were generally all that was available. When I replaced many of my VHS tapes with DVDs, which came with both dub and sub, I started rewatching series subbed and discovered the original names of the characters which got me to wondering if the various distributors thought that non-Japanese people couldn't cope with Japanese names.

You would not believe some of the stuff they take out.

 

I went to a convention a while back and the guy running a panel on anime weapons said that in Outlaw Star Gene Starwind got those caster shells in the last episode from a dark ancient society. 

 

I helpfully pointed out he got them from three perverts who run a hotspring resort.

I also disliked the name changes in English versions. It's as I got older, I found this insulting to the intelligence XD

Tenchi Muyo had some poorly censored bathing suits in a few episodes.




Also, there's a lot of random stuff edited out of Sailor Moon, but I think the funniest is Sailor Jupiter "Lita" (Makoto) talking about how she should be the lead in a play because she had the most "talent." She actually said the biggest breasts in the Japanese version (none of this was in the manga XD)



Besides making Haruka and Michiro incestuous, the US also took out a scene early on where Umino was possessed and flipped up their teacher's skirt revealing her smiley face underwear.
