They did an Urusei Yatsura remake recently too. Next up: Maison Ikkoku?

As to Ranma 1/2, I’ll check it out since it was one of the first anime I watched on VHS tapes, but after the first couple seasons it was just repetitive, went on far longer than it needed to  & still didn’t resolve things.

I watched a few Ramna 1/2 on VHS as well and even got one of the box sets as I quite liked the series and found it good fun, but I gave up on it after a while because as you said the plots were repetitive and there seemed to be no end in sight for the story.

Sometime last year I watched a couple of episodes and decided that it hadn't aged well and I found it rather tiresome to watch.

Ranma's always good. But will they allow it to be broadcast since it involves a transgender teenager? I've noticed even Netflix, when they release a DVD tends to leave out whole seasons f their shws if they deal with "controversial" topics.

When you find multiple other trans girls in a non-LGBT discord server : r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Well, firstly it depends on who gets their mitts on it. Sailon Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura both got butchered to one extent or another because they wanted to avoid things like same-sex relationships. That was decades ago and different networks are a lot more tolerant of it. Admittedly Crunchyroll shut down all their comments and forums when they started showing anime of that nature.

That being said, I'm unsure if Ranma technically qualifies as transgender. According to Google the definition of transgender is:

Quote

A term that describes a person whose gender identity is different from the sex they were assigned at birth. For example, a transgender person who was assigned female at birth may identify as male, a combination of male and female, or neither.

Does Ranma identify as being female? Not as a rule, no. For the most part Ranma dislikes being in female form. The rare exception, IIRC, was when Ranma went out to eat "girly" foods like parfaits which was done in girl form so as not to feel embarrased.

Even though Ranma, in female form, presumably identifies as being male, that isn't their gender at birth so technially wouldn't qualify either.

Ah yes, RUby Moon and the Starlights, among others. How well I remember.

Having watched the first 5 eps, it’s unlikely I’ll continue. I’m not feeling the frenetic energy at all that was essential to the original’s vibe. And I’m not seeing any improvements that would make it more appealing to a modern audience. I actually dislike the softer art style & periodic color palette switches. There might be a slight reduction in unnecessary/filler content, but it’s not like the series is famous for having a tight narrative. The “hasn’t aged well” observation isn’t actually much of a factor for me, but I honestly don’t see any reason for the remake to exist. If I ever feel like revisiting the series, I’ll stick to the original.
