  1. I've been working my way through the new version of Ranma and I noticed something odd. In one scene, several characters call Mousse near-sighted. The problem is, he isn't. Near-sightedness means you have good eyesight for things close to you, but weak eyesight for things at a distance. Mousse has terrible eyesight at close range. I'm not sure if he's much better at long range either.
  2. Shounen isn't aimed at girls. Doesn't mean they can't watch it or won't enjoy it. They just aren't the target audience.
  3. The only way I could access it is buy it on HIDIVE which I'd need to access through Prime. I'm not too fond of that option.
  4. I bought the first 3 volumes of the manga while I was on a vacation in Japan many years ago. I read them twice on the plane trip home. I then proceeded to watch all of the anime - excellent stuff for the most part. It is a series that is a bit better as an anime as you can more clearly see what is going on in the action scenes.
  5. Different culture I suppose. I've no idea where the whole idea of biting your finger to draw blood came from. The first time I saw it was in Naruto. But seriously, unless you sharpen your teeth it's more likely you'll seriously mess up a finger in order to draw blood that way. The other thing I occasionally see are high school kids who are living on their own because they are either attending a distant school or their family are working elsewhere. I don't know how common that is in Japan, but where I live it would be grounds to call the authorities.
  6. This maybe? https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_590 It didn't have Bleach in it though.
  7. I'm not sure I'd classify it as a harem type anime. Only two girls seems to be overly interested in the MC and he's got very mixed feelings about hooking up with any of them.
  8. I was wondering about that since I like the manga and hadn't realised they'd made an anime of it. Wikipedia indicated it shouldn't be on Crunchyroll so I was surprised when I found it there.
  9. Huh, they are doing a new season of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. That was a really odd show but I enjoyed it. Also, I wish Crunchyroll would allow putting announced shows on your watchlist. As it is I have to keep checking new shows until they actually have videos so I can put them on my watchlist.
  10. Just about every anime has a target audience. Besides, the question is about anime that include LGBTQIA+ characters, not anime that focuses on it.
  11. Easy - Cardcaptor Sakura. Still a classic even after all of these years.
  12. Maybe Cardcaptor Sakura (the original, not the dubbed atrocity) and Paniponi Dash.
  13. I watched the first episode - it made me wonder if I was somehow watching the start of season 2. No real lead up, just leaping into the middle.
  14. I rewatch Cardcaptor Sakura every so often. Still a classic.
  15. Anime is a form of media, like live TV, books, audio etc. As with all of them, it can be aimed at different target demographics. Likewise, it can include content that children should not be viewing. Anyone thinking animated = for kids should watch some of the western animated shows such as the Simpsons, Family Guy etc.
  16. I'd suggest the main Tenchi Muyo series for this. It was good to start with. Later series though? It seemed to spend too much time on things like domestic duties like cooking etc. It didn't help that they started introducing characters from extra media like light novels making it hard to work out what was going on any more.
  17. Is she really underaged though? She isn't a human and thus the age when is she is legally an adult will be different.
  18. My preference is, in order: 1) A well done dub 2) A well done sub 3) A badly done dub 4) A badly done sub If the VA's doing the dub can put on a good performance then I can just watch and enjoy. I'd rather read the dialogue if the alternative is putting up with poor voice acting or voices that don't match the character. A good example would be the Negima!? anime. I ended up watching the sub because they made Negi sound like a snooty young Englishman, despite him having grown up in Wales. They also made Evangeline sound like a English noblewoman even though she grew up in eastern Europe.
  19. Depends on what definition of weird you are looking for. Anime that seems like the author was nuts or taking LSD or anime that is crazy implausible? I'd nominate Girls und Panzer for the latter. It literally has high schools located on ships the size of a small island and someone decided the height of feminine grace is to get in an early 20th century tank and go battle it out. Since this is a light hearted anime there isn't the massive body count you'd expect.
  20. About the only definition I can come up with is where it is made. Anime is made in Japan or at least it is designed there (they use Koreans to do some of the drawing AFAIK). There tend to be differences in themes and plot lines as well - but nothing that you could assign a concrete definition to.
  21. Tolkien actually gave a simple and convincing reason as to why that didn't happen:
  22. I'd probably be carrying a thermos containing hot water with me at all times. I don't know I'd want to be a girl all that much, but when I got old enough I'd switch full time since presumably the girl form doesn't actually age.
  23. It doesn't start airing in Japan until tomorrow AFAIK. Netflix are supposed to make the episodes available after they have aired.
  24. Well, firstly it depends on who gets their mitts on it. Sailon Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura both got butchered to one extent or another because they wanted to avoid things like same-sex relationships. That was decades ago and different networks are a lot more tolerant of it. Admittedly Crunchyroll shut down all their comments and forums when they started showing anime of that nature. That being said, I'm unsure if Ranma technically qualifies as transgender. According to Google the definition of transgender is: Does Ranma identify as being female? Not as a rule, no. For the most part Ranma dislikes being in female form. The rare exception, IIRC, was when Ranma went out to eat "girly" foods like parfaits which was done in girl form so as not to feel embarrased. Even though Ranma, in female form, presumably identifies as being male, that isn't their gender at birth so technially wouldn't qualify either.
