Plants

I used to have a lot of sunflowers behind our house and they were my babies. They were the Mongolian Giant type of sunflowers and mine had reached over 9 to 10 feet tall ôヮô Sadly some neighborhood kids or teens broke into our backyard and destroyed and broke all of them (╯︵╰,) I still get extremely upset thinking about it because I put so much love and care into them, they had their own names, I had researched book after book on every detail about how to care for them and I really put myself into it just for someone to destroy it in a few minutes thinking it was funny. I don't have any plants of my own now except a few fake decorations. I may eventually try to grow some one day again.

I love plants! Usually we do a vegetable garden with tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, squash but we didn't get to it this year. I have a little mini herb garden on my window sill.

I have just one plant in my house which I've somehow managed to keep for many years. I'm told that it's a Peace Lily but whatever it is it occasionally produces a really nice looking white flower. I did the sunflower thing as well and recently moved them into the garden because they were getting too large for the house. They all appear to be growing well, one of them is up to my shoulder height and most of the others are nearly that tall. So far I've not had any flowers on them.

Mine have gotten really big too I'm not sure what to do with them LOL they haven't flowered either but I think they are getting close to that point ~

I used to have a bunch of different plants, but a few of them died a couple years ago when we moved to our current place.

Inside I’ve got a spider plant, a Christmas cactus, a jade plant with a spider plant (that needs to be relocated, it’s too healthy and will overpower the jade), a sad aloe plant that needs to be repotted, and some kind of vine thing that’s going absolutely crazy in my kitchen window (mum even took a bunch of cuttings from it recently for herself and it’s already as big as it was before she took them lmfao).

Outside I have some petunias that I’m trying to figure out, the most dramatic jolly jump ups (a type of pansy) I’ve ever seen (if they’re thirsty, the entire plant goes totally flat like something sat in it, but then pops right back up shortly after watering), and a strawberry plant that is growing healthily but probably won’t produce berries until next year.

Andy came home yesterday with a couple more plants for me. One is this super pretty purple thing that I know nothing about (salvia nemorosa/woodland sage). And the second plant he chose because it has a gorgeous pink bloom on it, but he didn’t realize it’s a young hydrangea shrub. So now we have a shrub and no yard to plant it in lmfao. That’s okay, I’m just gonna find a huge ass pot with casters so that it can still grow and will be easier to move around if needed. Hydrangea flowers will bloom different colours depending on the acidity of the soil. It’s in a neutral soil at the moment, so the flowers are vivid pink. They would bloom vivid blue if they were in a more acidic soil.

Also just wanted to add: for anyone that wants plants but tends to kill them? I highly recommend spider plants! They’ll grow in almost any conditions and even if they do start to die then they’re really easy to bring back. They also grow offshoots that can be planted in dirt and cut from the main plant once the roots take, so you can eventually end up with your very own spider plant jungle!

NOTE FOR ANY CAT OWNERS:

Spider plants are not dangerous for cats, but they are hallucinogenic! Some cats will go bonkers for it and will absolutely eat your plant. You can either try to find somewhere out of reach or just accept the fact that your spider plants will always have chewed leaves.

Spider plants are amazing (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ they'll live through just about anything she's right. Snake plants are also easy to care for and seem to thrive on neglect.

Not much of a plant guy myself but the wife has a few houseplants that I'm occasionally asked to water. In the Summer I water the lawn and the outdoor plants but I don't think this makes me any kind of qualified plant expert :)

AAA I love Christmas cactus those are so pretty when they bloom AND HYDRANGEA IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FLOWERRRRR ~ I'd love to have a huge Hydrangea bush, but alas, that's the only downside of living in a high rise for me lol no giant plants. My dad has several large Hydrangea bushes outside in his backyard I visit every Summer. I honestly find those to be the most beautiful flower 💜 I wonder if I could actually get a big pot and have one.. not sure if that would work. I do have an extremely large balcony.. hmmm 🤔

I have quite a small porch but I’m absolutely determined to make it fit ahahaha. I want to let it be as big as possible, but I’m hoping that even if the planter is a bit too small that maybe I can kinda sorta bonsai it and keep it smaller.
ooh better idea! If I move it downstairs then I can put under my outdoor stairs, still gets lots of light down there and then it’s like a welcoming plant before people come up!

no matter what, I want to get a pot that has caster wheels so it can be moved easily in the future.

My Christmas cactus blooms pink! It didn’t bloom at all last year though, so I’m hoping it will do it this year. The light in my place is a bit strange and I’ve been having a killer hard time finding a spot that doesn’t try to kill the poor thing. It’s always a little sad looking, but it keeps growing so I’m at least doing something right, just gotta figure out how to do the rest of it right haha

Lmao that sounds like me stuffing more and more plants in our window sils XD yeah honestly one of those with wheels on it is prolly the best option for a larger thingy. I have a plant rack shelf with wheels and it's a huge life saver because I move my plants in and out of the balcony every day for example lol
