What Did You Do In Gaming Today

Went looking for one of the new sulfur caves but didn't find one.  Might try again tomorrow or sunday, depending on peoples' schedules.

Also did some experimenting with what kind of load the happy ghasts can carry.  A loaded chestboat is fine, even with a sheep or a villager, but it won't carry a player in the boat/chestboat.  Not a big deal since up to 4 players can ride on top but.. Minecraft physics.  Note I said that it will carry a villager.  This will make starting a new village much easier.  No more luring a villager with beds or laying 1000s of blocks of rail.

Found a huge iron ore vein that intersected with a mineshaft.  Random, but kinda cool.

Also found a zombie spawner and a spider spawner in close proximity to each other and to the ore vein.  Not fun to be digging around the ore and suddenly break through to a flood of zombies and cave spiders.

Never did find one of the new sulfur biomes.

Put a few hours into .hack//G.U. Last Recode.  I started Redemption earlier in the week.  While I remembered most of Rebirth when I replayed in, I'd forgotten most of what happened in Reminisce and Redemption.  In part, it feels like playing a new game, lol.

Found a sulfur cave (finally!) and played with the cube guys and the geyser mechanics.  We got the geyser to shoot a player over 20 blocks into the air!  We could see over the city walls!  If you can lure a mob into the area over the geyser it will also send them flying.  My brother wants to try using about 20 chickens.  🤣

  • 3 weeks later...

This weekend we were building up another town in minecraft.  This one is closer to fresh chunks so we can get to some of the newer content easier.  (We don't typically edit our world to reset chunks, we just move the 'frontier' into new chunks.)  The new place is not linked to the Nether network yet but it is also very close to one of the strongholds so there's easy access to the End.  Eventually the lowest level by the water will be a dock / warehouse area, maybe with some villager smiths, while the upper levels will be terraced and have some housing for both players and merchant villagers.  The top level near the church will have some farms/farmers and a cleric or two.  I'll probably bring in a happy ghast at some point as well because most of the terrain is flat(ish), forested mountain tops with steep drops to the water making land or water travel problematic.

While digging to find the End gate we found out that the mountain that the stronghold is in is basically a giant hollow dripstone cave, so we built a path through it.

Nearby below we found a bunch of skulk, and after searching around in that for a bit we even found an ancient city.

Completed the first two chapters of the original Neverwinter Nights. Interesting enough plot, I suppose, though my investment in finding out what the "People of the Eye" are up to is pretty much what's pulling me through a lot of the combat (it's not bad, but it does get fairly grind-y after a while).

This weekend we did a bit more work on the new town near the stronghold.  My SIL did a bunch of detail work on the walls and I did some landscaping to create several levels of terraces where we can put some crops and some housing and shops for villagers.  I also added a tower that will eventually be a landing pad for happy ghasts.  The tower is about as high as it's going to get but I have to decide on the details of the pad at the top.  Having a place to hitch ghasts will help with transportation and exploration.  The terrain around the town is quite hilly, with steep drops to rivers that divide up the landscape.  Travel by boat is fairly quick, but of course limited to the deep, Drowned-infested rivers, which in MC are notoriously sketchy as transportation.  Traveling any distance on foot or horseback is made impractical by the high mountains a steep drops to the rivers.  We haven't opened the End gate yet in this SMP game and we don't have elytra or shulkers yet so having a ghast or two available to travel by air will be a welcome addition, especially given the ghast's cargo-carrying ability.

Started Final Fantasy VI the other day, as I've never played it.  Picked up the Pixel Remaster awhile back, so I could play III-VI, as I never played them (finished earlier this summer).  Only a few hours in, but I've been enjoying it thus far.  Kefka is shaping up to be an awesome villain, hah.

Did a bunch of dodging.  You would think that at least one of them would be usable.

(Same problem with skellys.. they can shoot hundreds at you, but you can't pick them up, and if you do manage to kill one they always drop 2, or none.  What's wrong with this picture?)

Found a spider spawner, but the entire side was open to a large cavern.  Felt like there must have been hundreds of them.

(If you're phobic don't look.)

Spoiler

It was even creeping me out and I'm not.  All those eyes swiveling to look at you just as you decide to look up and see them all lurking in the corners.  Surprisingly noisy too.
