I think that in general the various animal protection organisations do a reasonable job and have a hard task protecting animals from commercial companies who are only interested in money and profit and don't care how much suffering they cause to animals in their operations.
The problem comes when some of their supporters become fanatical activists who employ extreme measures to force their agendas on everyone else, which can have the effect of discrediting the organisation they claim to be supporting.
