  1. Welcome aboard to Forum. Pull up a cushion, or a chair if sitting on the floor isn't your thing, and make yourself at home.
  2. Another Blu-ray disk arrived in the post this morning. It'll be interesting to see what happens when I put it in my Bly-ray player, it's a Region A disk and the UK is in Region B and as far as I know my player is not multi-region. * Update: The disks played OK, so either my Blu-ray player is multi-region or the disks are, either way I'm very happy.
  3. All of a sudden the occasional house spider and urban fox in the back garden doesn't sound so bad. Er, except for spiders, I loathe spiders they give me the creeps.
  4. In the UK a police officer has to undergo a rigorous training programme before being authorised to carry a gun. They are also accountable for every bullet they fire, and I think they also have to give the reasons why they fired. Actually using their gun is pretty much a last resort if there's no other way to protect members of the public from harm.
  5. I went camping a couple of times. In my book anyone who wants camping can have it !
  6. Thankfully I've never been robbed in the street and being robbed at gun point would scare the daylights out of me, fortunately gun crime isn't common in the UK as guns are not easy to get hold of. The big problem is knife crime, many thieves carry knives as a matter of course and there's been several incidents recently where people have been stabbed to death and any report of a person brandishing a knife in public will result in a rapid police attendance usually including an Armed Response Unit (Only specially trained officers in the British police carry guns). In the UK both tazers and pepper spray are regarded as offensive weapons and it's illegal to own or carry them, being caught with a tazer can earn you a 10 year prison sentence or a very hefty fine. The only people who are allowed to carry a tazer are the police.
  7. A serious crime indeed, and there are ways of dealing with it. I'm sure a lot of small thefts go unreported because people know there's nothing the police can or will do, personally I think even very minor thefts should be reported so that the police have a better idea of the level of crime in the area. Having your house broken into is not a nice thing to happen and the burglary, even though it was many years ago, has affected my view of home security and whenever I go out I check to make sure all the doors and windows are closed and locked and set the alarm system, I even set the system when I go to bed at night (it's got a special nighttime setting that deactivates the upstairs sensors). Like you my biggest worry is that someone would break in while I was there.
  8. There's not really a lot of thefts where I live, the local web forum covers a fairly wide area which tends to make things look worse than they are. Most of the thefts are opportunists taking advantage of people's forgetfulness, while most of the car thefts are by organised gangs who steal to order. My house was burgled many years ago and several small valuable items were taken. We had an alarm system installed soon afterwards, quite a few houses in my road have alarm systems.
  9. It's dry, bright and sunny, but I'll need a coat when I go shopping later on because it's not all that warm outside.
  10. I agree, but going by the number of reports on my local neighbourhood's web forum there's quite a lot of people who believe that their need of someone else's car, bike, mobile phone etc is greater than the owners so it's OK to take it.
  11. A Google image search of that picture suggests that it's called "Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist". It's available on Crunchyroll.
  12. Of course we'll have you back. Welcome back, we kept a cushion for you, or if sitting on the floor isn't your thing, we've got a chair for you instead. It might take a while to get used to the new name though.
