Animedragon
7 hours ago, Kit said: Lowkey hate the theater. Too many people talk at them or bring a screaming kid. Worse when the person next to you keeps ordering food and crunches through the movie. I had all that last time I went to the cinema, plus a side order of a rug-rat kicking the back of my seat. Haven't been to the cinema since, and anyway the only surviving local cinema has no car park and is an unhandy distance from the public transport links which aren't good in the evenings. My town's local cinema was demolished decades ago, shame really because it was a nice looking building.
Takatofan1986
Well that's interesting... I started to reply to this the other day, and after typing MOST OF IT, like all but the last question, I accidentally closed the page -_-. But I tried to come back and nothing happened. Now a day or two later, I go to try again and my old reply pops up? Weird. Oh well, at least I don't have to type all that again... *Answeres last question* How often do you go to the Cinema? When I was younger I went a lot more. I have Aspurgers and I kind of obsess over movies. But, in the last decade or so I haven't been as interested in watching newer movies - not that there aren't good ones here and there that I go see, but in general. Now the last time I went to see a movie in theaters was for My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission last fall, and before that... ... ... ... Actually, I think before that was the second My Hero Academia movie in early 2020. (I think I only went once in 2019, for the Beatles movie, 'Yesterday'.) Typical pricing to see a movie? I usually go out of town, and I think now its around $8. (At least it was last fall.) Do you usually buy food and drink from the Candy Bar? Sometimes. It depends. I'm not poor-poor but, don't have a ton of money and it's pretty expensive. Just depends on where it is in the month and stuff. Ever experienced a disruption? (e.g. fire alarm, technical fault) My mom ran a movie theater for just 2 months short of 3 years when I was a kid, and so I just watched movies constantly. In that, I've seen many things: In early 1996 we got The Birdcage, and- on the film, the sound was on the side of the film, and apparently this was a different kind of 'soundtrack' that the projector couldn't handle. So the first time they tried to play it, there was a loud buzzing, and we had to stop it. (People were pissed... the film was already really late getting delivered and the 4 and 7 shows had already been cancelled... people were really pissed.) Luckily we found out that another projector could play it, so we moved theaters and were able to play it the next day. I've seen things happen like the film stop moving and it burned through the film, and lots of other crazy things. In 1998 we got The Wedding Singer, and... the film would be delivered in reels, like 20 mins of film, and we would have to splice them together. (If you remember back in the day the dots in the corner, that's why.) And my mom didn't put one in the middle together right and it was way too big of a hassle to take half the movie back apart, so I HAD to watch the movie every showing. (Which I was heartbroken about... not XD.) to let them know when the change was coming, because if I didn't, the bottom was on the top and the top was on the bottom (half and half) but they had a knob that could adjust it. Your most favorite movie at the Cinema? That's hard, with my mom working at the movie theater those years there are lots of fun movies and fun memories, and many I probibly wouldn't have watched without my mom working there. ... But I think I'm going to go with Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery, because I loved that movie and was obsessed with it, and one night me and my mom watched it again by ourselves after the theater closed! Zeref
How often do you go to the Cinema? Not that often anymore due to the prices of going it almost seems like a waste unless it's a movie I really want to see on the big screen. Typically a lot of movies come out pretty quickly online so waiting for them isn't as long as it used to be. Typical pricing to see a movie? This depends entirely on the time of day and what type of theater you are going to. On a normal day during the day time it seems to be around $15. If you go to a 3D theater it seems to be about $18. Weekends? Add about $2-$3 dollars to those ticket prices. There are some matinee prices that can run cheaper at $10-$11 dollars but they are usually movies no one wants to see and during inconvenient times. Do you usually buy food and drink from the Candy Bar? I usually do. This costs more than the movie. The last time I went to the theater my movie ticket was $18 and my food was another $22. This was just for a popcorn, soda, and a box of candy I might add. This means the average trip to go to the movies is almost $40 for one person which seems a little ridiculous. I don't see how families can afford this. Ever experienced a disruption? (e.g. fire alarm, technical fault) Not a disruption but I did attend a movie once that started late however no reason was given. Your most favourite movie at the Cinema? I usually go to see Marvel movies at the cinema or movies like Godzilla and King Kong.
Sakura
How often do you go to the Cinema? Not often, maybe 1-2 times a year. Like @Zeref said, it has to be something that I really want to see in order for me to go to the theaters. I'm not a huge fan of crowds so if I do go it's gotta be for something really good. Typical pricing to see a movie? It's getting more and more expensive imo. I think it's around $15 to $22 these days. The cheaper for the normal movies and the more expensive I think for stuff like 3d movies. Do you usually buy food and drink from the Candy Bar? Yuh I do but yeah this is way expensive too lol but I don't feel like I get the full "movie experience" if I go and don't at least get popcorn and a drink. Ever experienced a disruption? (e.g. fire alarm, technical fault) Ya there was a fire alarm that went off during a movie I was watching once. Apparently some kids pulled a fire alarm or went through an emergency exit or something lol Kinda good because we compted our movie tickets. Your most favourite movie at the Cinema? Jurassic Park! I loveeee going to the theater to see any movie in the Jurassic Park series. It also used to be Harry Potter films but since those aren't coming out anymore it'll be Jurassic Park stuff.
Wickett
How often do you go to the Cinema? Two or three times a year. Not as often as I'd like, honestly. The movie industry as a whole is a little sad to me. I'd rather pay higher ticket prices than for theaters to go under, but it's still a simple fact that I can't afford to go often when that money could be way better spent on other things. When the money is there, there aren't many movies anymore that I'm that interested in. Also, the most recent and one of the most notable issues that have kept me from the cinemas are the showtimes. I don't understand how by the second and definitely third weekend the showtimes on weekend nights of all things are so poorly spaced out. It's either right in the middle of my usual dinner time or have me out later than I want to be by the time it's over. Typical pricing to see a movie? If you pay at the theater it's approximately $12 a ticket, but if you pay on the app it's approximately $14 a ticket after tax and convenience fee (what a joke). Do you usually buy food and drink from the Candy Bar? Absolutely not. Again, I want theaters to stay alive and thrive, but the upcharge on the refreshments is so egregious I simply refuse. I also don't really eat a lot of sweets anyway so if there is an occasional splurge it's going to be a small popcorn and I'm going to endure financial regret the entire time I'm eating it. Ever experienced a disruption? (e.g. fire alarm, technical fault) Nothing too serious. No emergencies, but I have had issues a couple of times with low sound or crackly bass. The most notable instance I can recall at the moment would have been a disturbance caused by a bunch of noisy teenagers during Godzilla: Minus One. I am not the type of person that wants to put myself front and center and complain about things, but after several very loud outbursts of laughing (not related to what was happening on screen), loudly spoken and clear to understand sexual slurs and other foul language, I reported them to the front desk. It was actually handled very promptly, thankfully. There was no sense in everyone in that room missing out on what was an outstanding movie like Minus One because of such behavior. Your most favourite movie at the Cinema? Really not sure. Psycho-Pass Providence, is high on the list because I love the series and it was my one and only anime movie in theaters. Also can't neglect to mention the Star Wars prequels with my father as a child, Pirates of the Carribean movies as they came out, John Wick 3 and 4, probably even John Carter of Mars, which I regard as an underrated movie. Quote @Zeref This means the average trip to go to the movies is almost $40 for one person which seems a little ridiculous. I don't see how families can afford this. They can't, and that's the real shame here. In order to pay their employees and keep the whole operation running they have to have a bit of overhead like everyone else, but this of course trickles down to the customer who weighs the whole idea of seeing a movie on the value scale and ends up buying clothes, a game that can played over and over, or wait to buy/rent it later.
