Someone please shoot me in the head right where the memory of this coming has set itself please.

Hi @RepentantSky thanks for posting this teaser.

Now now, Sword Art Online may not be your cup of tea but we do have quite a few fans of the franchise here, so please lets not make this into a toxic rant and let us all try to keep an open mind. ;)

It does look the anime adaptations are following more of the light novels, given that Sword Art Online II covered Phantom's Bullet (GGO) and Mother's Rosario. With Alicization it seems there is a lot to draw upon from the two volumes that are already out there.

Edit: I've had to adjust the title - this thread is showing up in Google with season 4 keyword search, not what we're aiming for.

  2. Hi @Jib, welcome to AF.

    誰でも翻訳アプリを使用できます

By itself this doesn't make much sense.

But I can see a few words there and whipping out my Japanese dictionary:

誰でも - dare de mo (anyone)

    翻訳 - hon yaku (translation)

アプリ - a pu ri (app)

So it's referencing a translation app that anyone can use?

  3. Hi everyone,

I am working on splitting some content for the upcoming platform change and to facilitate this I need to move Anime Forums to another hosting provider I'm using (from a data centre in Lansing, Michigan to Dallas, Texas).

This will be done in the coming days so there will be some downtime (possibly up to 24-48 hours).

The forums will be closed during the migration to ensure no posts are made during the transfer.

After the migration it should be business as usual.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    ---

Edit: server migration is now complete.

  4. Thanks everyone again for the expressions of interest! I will be sending you all a link to the test instance which you will be able to access using your existing AF account credentials.

To the newer members I will provide a new account login with a temporary password which you can then change after you login.

Somebody please tell me what's a tester!@_@@_@ Thanks in advance!^_^

This was explained in my first post and also in this post:

Let me know if you're interested.

  5. Hi @Alex Couch,

Thank you for your feedback and welcome to AF!

I am currently testing another platform for the forum and it's the perfect opportunity to get the Waifu/Husbando feature revamped.

As you've noted, the selection is based on a list of images I've uploaded based on previous requests.. one of the features that will be getting added is the ability for members to add their own image (the feature was originally just for fun but due to its popularity, I can't add new images in a timely manner whilst also maintaining AF!)

So for now if you can hang tight long term later down the track it will be added..

  6. Hi @Wodahs,

Everyone is welcome as a tester, more testers = more feedback. ;)

The actual testing is literally just testing every feature on the new system, such as posting threads, customising your profile, creating a club, a blog, a gallery, etc. whilst providing feedback on the look, feel and how well it functions compared to the existing system here as well as providing suggestions if you feel it could be improved.

Testing will start when I get enough expressions of interest in this thread - I'm hoping for at least 5 minimum testers before starting.

  7. Hi @Wodahs,

As mentioned above the software I've shortlisted is IPS Community, as for the final when, we'll we have at least a year. It depends how quickly I can find similar features to match the custom features we have: Waifu/Husbando, AF Shop and Vocaloid PVs.

Depending on tester feedback we may not even go ahead with this option, hence why I'm looking for testers now that are open to playing and breaking things whilst providing feedback.

  8. Hello everyone,

We are currently using the XenForo backend for this forum, and though it has served us very well - we are utilising over 54 modules to get the result you see today. Many of these modules were custom developed specifically for our community.

From a technical standpoint, as the XenForo backend is updated with new releases, each of these modules need to be kept up to date to ensure they remain compatible.

A long term issue is that a new major rewrite of the XenForo backend (2.0) is coming up, and is slated for release within a year. I am sure they are going to support the current version (1.x) for many months to come but the problem is our existing custom modules won't be compatible with XenForo 2.

This leaves me with two options:

    1. Get the custom modules re-developed again for XenForo 2
    2. Look into migrating to another platform

After careful consideration, I've decided to look into evaluating other platforms - and one of the shortlisted ones I've been looking into is IPS Community Suite.

There are some nifty core features in this platform that could be quite beneficial, including clubs, leaderboards, blogs and a member gallery again. Of course ensuring all your content and profiles are migrated across is of the highest priority.

I'm looking for testers that are willing to provide feedback, test and break things in a private staging area. If you're interested, please drop a line below and I will be in contact with you.

  9. I haven't seen many titles with much 3D other than in OP and ED scenes..

The most memorable one that comes to me is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the OP was completely 3D:

Considering it came out in 2002, very gorgeous at the time! It did seem a little out of the place as the rest of the anime was in normal 2D. But even so, the rest of the anime and 2nd gig still looks great and better than many new titles that don't have a decent budget..

  10. Hi @Sidney B\. Gone,

Thank you for your suggestion. :)

We used to have a Gallery for fanworks, It was initially seeded with various fanworks from around the web (with full credit given to the original authors) and a few members did use it to submit their own works... but usage really dropped to the point where it was better to focus on other areas.

I do believe the existing platforms out there on the web do a much better job at showcasing your art than a forum gallery would.. and you are of course very welcome to continue showcasing in Creative Corner or adding a link to your channel(s) in your profile and signature.

Long term we might be bringing in the ability to allow members to have their own blogs. That would probably be the next best thing.

  11. I wish I could do something similar on my blog, but I only have access to categories and tags, and have not really delved into the category stuff.

Yes indeed, it's more trickier for us as we have a combined forum, blog and anime review pages so I've restricted tagging to just the forums with RSS feeds. As you can imamgine once you've organised your content in a certain way, it becomes very tiring to change it later if you decide to later change your mind. I will admit I've done that many times here on AF... thankfully, this bar is one of the last pieces of the puzzle for us. ;)

Personally I like it. It looks more organized and is easy to follow. If I had any issue with it, it's that it might be confusing for new members to understand, and this thread might not quite explain it, but realistically, that can either be solved by people simply asking about it and having anyone one of the current members explain it, or by adding in a simple sticky thread that explains it in slightly more detail than this one currently does.

The end goal is when all the episode threads have this (for titles that have at least 3+ episode threads) then it should be intuitive enough for visitors and members to just jump in and use it as soon as they see the bar, no matter which episode or general discussion thread they enter from.

  12. Hi @Hootr,

Funimation did the English cinema release for this one.

Looking at their website a date hasn't been locked in yet... but do keep a close eye on their blog, they always announce their DVD and Blu-ray releases a month or two ahead of time:

    https://www.funimation.com/blog/category/new-releases/

The usual pattern with English dub anime movie releases is that assuming someone has licensed it (always a high chance if it was popular) then it will be available a few months after the Japanese DVD/Blu-ray comes out.

In this case the Japanese release is coming out on July 27. I watched the Japanese version in cinemas so that's the version I'm going for, plus it looks like they're doing a gorgeous 4k Blu-ray release!

    http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/feature/kiminonawa_movie_blu_ray_DVD

  13. So I made the move to 4k with an upgrade to a LG OLED 65" HDTV. Some of the wall scrolls also got rotated.

Will post new photos later this weekend...

That's awesome. How large is the actual room?

Hi @Tsuruya, sorry I forgot to reply to this. The room is about 3.65m x 4.4m

so I went out sat and bought a GeForce GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming Premium Pack 8G as the price was real good and came with goodies like sli bridge as I plan to also run another if not a 1080ti unit

Oh that sounds pretty powerful and pricey indeed! Do you intend to game in your home theatre? :o
