  1. You mean the Chunin exams right? I don't think he would be too bothered with being Chunin with the title he got at the end of the anime From what I remember Naruto took the Chunin exams two times. The one time with the whole Orochimaru thing, then went off training and years later tried to become a Chunin again but lost against Konohamaru. So technically he is still genin? But if Naruto HAD taken the exam at the next possible time, I guess he would have fought all those who didn't pass the first time? Can't remember who exactly passed at the next time but they mention it at the beginning of Shippuden when Naruto is wondering why everyone is already a Chunin or higher. But yeah interesting question who would have won there, probably Sasuke had he taken it
  2. You might already know this, but there is a live action version of Liar Game https://www.crunchyroll.com/liar-game I've read quite a bit of it, and it certainly is interesting. The only thing I might worry a bit is whether or not it will become too repetitive i.e. that it is always going to be the same with a game presented and one character saving the day, but let's see
  3. I kinda agree with both of you. Given how big CR is (or at least used to be) their site could be much better. Watching anime for free will in the end always be at the cost of anime producers. That being said, if you want to watch anime in English outside the US, it can be pretty pricey. Many of the titles are not even released because of some licensing issue. If I access CR for example, I only see a fraction of the titles someone from the US gets shown, they don't even appear on the anime titles list. And if you want to actually own them, we are often talking about 60-70 dollars per season with only a single language, no subtitles or other languages such as English (not even the original Japanese dub in most cases, even for the Ghibli movies). So I'd say if you actually have the money, you should definitely pay for as much of the anime you consume, for moral reasons as well as simply for practical reasons such as pumping money into the anime industry. If you don't have the money, you are often either left with not watching any anime or watching it illegally. That being said, getting a subscription at CR for example is around 10 bucks a month, so even if you only get a fraction of what others get to see, it might be a great compromise of paying as much as you can and watching what they offer, and either not watching the rest or illegally streaming it.
  4. Anyone either reading or watching Black Clover? As it happens I am at the same point in the anime as well as manga and was thinking which I should continue.

  5. It's all dandy dude. I've also been gone for most of August. It's great that you did revitalize this thread, because I had forgotten about it. So, who's game for Movie 2? If you guys are in, I'll post it in the Anime Movies Thread, and who knows, maybe other's will also want to watch it
  6. Oh, we all feel old around here
  7. You've got yourself a fan Curious to know, what's behind the word 'Memetically'?
  8. You stumbled upon this forum the same way I did then. Glad to say that this community is active with people from all around the world You are also about the average age of people around here
  9. @Xyro Sounds interesting! I know there was a movie about ants, but I can't recall an insect anime
  10. Now, there have been quite a lot of anime over the years, with titles about very specific games (such as Chihayafuru) or far out ideas. But are there any topics or ideas left which you think still weren't made into anime but would be great if they were? In other words, do you have an anime idea which is completely original and innovative? I can only think of two things. I don't think there's an anime about chess. I know there is one about Shogi (which makes sense) but not about chess per se. Also, I don't think there really is an anime that goes into philosophical arguments like they do with science (as, at least somewhat, for example in Dr. Stone). Although there are plenty of anime that make reference to some philosophical arguments every once in a while, there isn't (as far as I know) an anime about say arguments for/against the existence of God or vegetarianism. Interested to see, if someone has something they think should be an anime
  11. Once I get all the work stuff settled, I will disappear into that world
  12. @Beocat I don't think too much in the liberal/conservative thing, probably because I don't fit on either side (and it might be more strongly tied to the US?). Generally, I'd say I'm more interested in the specific argument, independent of liberal/left/right/conservative/democrat etc. Back to topic though, I haven't seen Mortal Engines, but the overall reviews seem to agree with you Now that I think about it I haven't seen a Hollywood movie in years. The last one I saw was Wonderwoman I think? Although the Snow White movie might have been Hollywood as well. Anyway, after seeing Snow White someone told me about how they are changing many of the classics nowadays, which got me reading up on this a bit and thinking. And it also reminded me of some of the stuff they are changing in the remastered versions of anime. I'm not sure myself where exactly I stand on the changing stuff. Generally though, I think old anime for example should be left the way it is, even if has racist, sexist or other things with which current society might not agree. New stuff however is a different thing (but it always depends what time period is being portrayed).
  13. Hi there Pixie, if it is an anime community you were looking for, then you've come to the right place Is there any currently airing anime you're watching by any chance?
  14. late to the show, but hi there from me as well. We seem to share some of the same enthusiasm for 'psychological' anime
  15. Thinking of continuing Black Clover and starting Liar Game (since @Nightwarrior95 made it sound great )
  16. I was skeptical about introducing new characters, but I gotta say the whole village thing was quite an improvement so far
  17. Dr. Stone more or less remained the same for me. First impression was something like a 5-6, and now fluctuates between 5-8 I'd say.
  18. Wait, there still are Fast&Furious movies being made? I remember watching those as a kid. Don't think I'll watch the new one though, unless it's to see how different it is from the earlier ones.
  19. @Beocat I don't know. It kinda bugs me. people have been creating new versions of older stories since forever, and much of what is now in the classic literary canon is based on some older story. Still, I think there can be something wrong with making a new version of something, namely if it is done for the wrong reasons. I think there is a difference between a story that is inspired by a classic, and one that acts as if it were the classic (only adapted or even censored). What seems to me is happening nowadays is that stories are adapted not to make them more interesting necessarily, but to fit them to our current societal values. It is similar to what @Seshi mentioned with trying to promote an agenda. Taking the Thor example, you could say that there is nothing wrong with a female Thor (after all, Thor is also often portrayed as blonde which goes against the original mythology). However, I think it is quite obvious that a female Thor is now created, not because it would somehow enrich the story, but to promote the idea of gender equality in a way. Trying to promote equality is something I think is great, but I don't think doing it through the means of changing mythologies or classics is the way to go. I think at some point you are changing so much of a mythology/classic that you'll start to lose much of coherence in the general mythology/classic frame. Maybe I am too much of a traditionalists when it comes to mythology though Censoring 'classics' seems even more controversial. I remember that there were some things in Yu Yu Hakusho against gay people for example (just remembered the fight against the transgender person as well). Should a remastered version of it cut these out?
  20. Hadn't heard of it but it sounds like my kind of plot. Will definitely check it out and if it is as promising as it sounds I think an anime adaption would be great!
  21. This might be slightly at the more controversial end of the spectrum, but I have been wondering something recently, and thought that this community is level-headed enough so that it doesn't end up in a flame war. I happened to watch a live action version of Snow White the other day and saw that they changed quite a bit from the classic, making Snow White the heroine and not the prince (who was supposed to save everyone). I also heard that they want to make a female James Bond and Thor? I think it's great that new movies portray female characters in a better light nowadays, and move away from the simple damsel-in-distress idea, but I don't know if changing mythology or classics, such as Snow White, to modern standards is the way to go. I have seen some of the argumentation of why and how they want to tie it all up (e.g. saying that Thor in the comics is only loosely based on Norse mythology which leaves enough room for a female Thor), but to me this looks more of a way to get the ideas through, than an honest argument. There are many racist, sexist and quite inhuman pieces of mythology or classics, but I do think that they are a product of their era and reflect the values (at least the reigning) people had at the respective time. If a new movie is made with an original plot then I do think directors should pay attention to some of the current issues, but in my opinion classics and especially mythology should not be modernized to fit current societal views. What do you think?
  22. really interesting concept! I've always been interested in anthropology and hominids, and have actually been waiting for a game like this. Will definitely check it out when I have the time (and maybe see what the whole epic games controversy is all about )
  23. Back to 'usual' work which means I can spam on Anime Forums more 😂 I see everything's still in one piece and there are a few new faces. :)  Anything major that happened?

  24. it isn't? oh I just looked it up. Cider is, but apple cider isn't, how weird So, if I get this right, it is something like boiled apple juice? Sounds a bit strange, but I would definitely try it as I think apple juice is great!
